Bottle: Poured a deep dark red color ale with a small foamy head that disappeared quite quickly. Aroma is sour tart with some sweetness. Taste has definitely a good base of oak and tart with some sour cherries but was cut with some sugar which probably makes it a bit easier to drink through but it loose some of it complexities. This beer reminds of the classic Rodenbach and would be great to drink in the summertime and could even make it as a great session beer.

Great aroma of fermenting papaya with a touch of vinegar. The sourness is very pleasant, nicely balanced with oplenty of malt and even a sweet aftertaste. But finally, at last, the woody, very dry yeasty taste concludes the proceedings. Very fruity, I'd call it sort of a sour cherry flavor.

Fine carbonation, a decent beer on the lighter side of the alcohol spectrum by Belgian standards. They call it a Flemish Red Brown ale on the label.

This bottle is one of three (different beers) I have from this brewery. The problem is, the labels all claim the beers are brewed by someone else! This brown was brewed by Verhaeghe-Vichte, the Amber by Du Bocq and the Triple by Van Steenberge (that should be good).

Anyway the brown 25cl bottle (5.4%) had just under a years life left when I broached it. Poured into a La Chouffe tulip.

Good clear mahogany red/brown colour with a tan head that faded quickly to a collar and wisp.

Sweet smell, which follows into the taste. Treacle and malts fill your nose, but there is a darker sour flavour in the mix too.

Agreeable to my palat, the sweet and sour elements complimented each other very well. It appeared to me like a combination of an Old Brown, a Young Brown with a hint of a Flanders Red thrown in to give some umph.

This was a lot better than I thought it would be after I read the label. I must wear my glasses when buying stuff!

What a delicious, sour, funky Belgian brown this is! Had it on tap at Belg Aube in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Such a rich and thick mouthfeel. Really makes the sweet cherry flavor come out for me. I like this brew a lot and would recommend for anyone looking for a nice drinkable sour.

Appearance : brown color, with tan foamy head (not persistent).
Smell : fruity and vinegar aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : sweet, fruity with a sour finish.
Drinkability : a good beer in the style Flemish brown or sour ale.

Dark red colour, it pours a nice brown creamy foam (not many bubbles, but they're big) that last for a while. Nose of acid apples, coriander, fennel. Spicy. Taste is very acid, but pleasant, refreshing. Fruity, with apples and most of all cherries. It makes you ask for another.

I had a bottle at Paix in Poperinge, Belgium.

Appearance: Pours a clear ruby with a thin brown head that fades to a sudsy film.

Smell: Notes of cherries with some medicinal phenols.

Taste: Cherry sweetness with a flash of tartness and a medicinal finish. Too sweet overall.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, low carbonation, a bit syrupy.

Drinkability: Too sweet and syrupy, but otherwise not bad.

A dark copper color and a creamy head. The smell was sweet and the taste was very strange. Vinegar, maybe balsamic vinegar, with some sweetness in it. Really not what I expect from a “Brune”. Apparently the beer is kept in wooden barrels so it has this woody, citric and syrupy flavor that I didn’t find enjoyable. I don’t want to taste it again, but my friends liked it.

Served at Cambrinus Restaurant, Bruges, Belgium.

A- Poured from the bottle with a very thin off-white diffuse head. No real substantial lacing. The body was a semi-opaque garnet color. Some little bubble trains were observed working their way up the sides of the glass.

S- The nose is somewhat akin to a Flemish Red, yet it seems to lack some of the acidity of the style. Overall it is a very mild nose, comprised of some candy malt, some mild acidity... average or just above.

T- Quite nice in the mouth. A nice balance of the candy malt and some lactic acidity. A little bit of oakiness here and a nice dry finish.

M- Thin to medium body. Well attenuated. Nice ample soft carbonation. The carbonation actually works well here to fill-out the mouth.

D- Very sessionable any time of year. I'd call it a nice "Flemish Mild" if I could create such a style!

Pours black, almost opaque with ruby red reflections. Head is small when poured and dissipates instantly into a very, very thin ring of foam. No lacing whatsoever. Smell is apple cider and vinegar. There's also a sort of medicinal smell going on that I can't quite figure out. There are some malts present as well after it warms up. Taste is apple cider and raspberry. There's a very subtle hint of coffee and caramel, too. Kinda sweet; there's the expected sour and vinegar feel, but it's definitely not bitter. I find the same medicinal thing as in the smell, but it's not any more recognizable. Some malts. The aftertaste is kinda acidic and not extremely pleasant. Moutfeel is prickly, with a light to medium body. Goes down well, but it's not that drinkable, what with the sour taste.

Ehh, I don't know about this. It's pretty good, but I was expecting something a bit more complex.
