Crisp, Pith, Rind, Crust

In a world being overrun by session IPAs this one stays the course with a big enough hop profile without sacrificing body and flavor. Full range of citric flavor from rind to pulp, pith to grove. Bitterness refreshes the palate with every sip which makes this one really easy to quaff back, the whole point of being a “session beer”. If you are lucky enough to make it to their pub enjoy it on top though you’ll want to do it proper and grab some tall boys.

Think of Heady Topper and Captain's Daughter. Bring it down an alcohol and intense flavor notch (or two) This is it.

This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a hazy ruddy burnt orange/almost amber color with a thin white finger’s worth of head laying around the glass. Filmy white lacing. The smell started off with a nice earthy spice riding into some nice bready malty backbone. The flavor pretty much is the same as the smell - subtle earthy spice to active grassy sweetness. Nice combined sweet to subtle spice in the aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionable feel about it. Carbonation rides nicely at a good pace. Overall, this was a nice IPA, somewhat leaning to the English style. For me, I could have again.

From the 16 fl. oz. can. Sampled on September 19, 2014.

Slightly cloudy amber-orange pour with a lingering white head. It fades some.

Not an abundance of obvious hops here but yes, there are some earthy hop notes that intermingle with the bready malts.

Medium body.

The malts tend to present themselves more than I would expect from an IPA but there is definitely no hop absence,. The flavor is reasonably well balanced. Nothing that blows me away but a very nice beer for what it is.

Had on tap at the restaurant and served in the 8 beer sampler. The beer had a murky gold appearance with some thick lacing on the sides. Aromas were interesting with a slight hint of honey spice mixed with the hops. However, the smell did not carry over to the taste and I felt the beer was a bit mediocre in the taste department. The mouthfeel might have had something to do with that as I felt the beer was well carbonated, but a little bit watery. Many of the flavors of the beer just seemed muted. Overall, I liked how the beer looked and smelled, but I wish the flavors were more pronounced to me.

light orangey color, slight haze. A little hoppy bitterness in the first taste but is soon over by the malt finish I find a little heavy for a session type IPA. The overall hop taste to this beer does come back in the end as do most session type IPA's . I don't usually find session IPA's to my liking but this one might do if I were to have a day of drinking more than a few beers.
