Very Good
Coop’d UpCoop’d Up
Notes: As urban brewers, we often find ourselves longing for a bit of peace and quiet and a little more room for our elbows. Don’t get us wrong: we wouldn’t give up our New Orleans home for the world—but sometimes it’s nice to daydream of trees, streams, and rocks. We brewed Coop’d Up for all you souls caught between the thrill of the town and the lure of the country.

A tribute to the city chicken farmer, the home pickler, and the window-box gardener, this bright saison longs for greener grass underfoot and a field of stars overhead. Coop’d Up pairs well with robust cuisine, dirt under your fingernails, and fresh air. So open up the windows, take off your shoes, and grab your favorite glass.

This tart farmhouse ale is bright and juicy. Brewed with Mandarina Bavaria and Hallertau Blanc hops, it is soured with lactobacillus to give it a crisp, tart finish

Its tartness, mild sourness, and acidity bring it closer to a gose than a Belgian saison proper. Eschews funkiness, barnyard character, and biscuity Belgian yeast in favour of tangy lemon citrus and overt albeit limited sourness and tartness. Wheat, probably. 2-row, definitely.

Likable though not on the money for the style.

Coop'd Up has a medium, off-white head, a hazy, yellow-gold appearance, some bubbles, and some minimal glass lacing. Aroma is of tart citrus and faint horse blanket, whereas the flavor is almost exclusively tart citrus and spiced white bread, with only a shade of brettanomyces. Mouthfeel is medium, and Coop'd Up finishes impressively dry.

Had at The Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans, served from a can into a pint glass. Essentially no head on a fairly clear golden ale. The aromas were of fresh malt and low barnyard funk. Flavors were like an AMerican blond ale with a low lemon tartness and low funk. Medium to thin body with low carbonation and bitterness. Delicious and refreshing; this would be a great lawnmower beer on a hot day.

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 12/26/2017. Pours very hazy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart lemon, lime, mandarin orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, green apple, white grape/wine, mango, melon, passion fruit, guava, berries, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, peppercorn, wheat, cracker, white bread, light lacto/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, lime, mandarin orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, green apple, white grape/wine, mango, melon, passion fruit, guava, berries, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, peppercorn, wheat, cracker, white bread, light lacto/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness, Brett/Lactic tang/tartness; and light herbal/grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, mandarin orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, green apple, white grape/wine, mango, melon, passion fruit, guava, berries, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, peppercorn, wheat, cracker, white bread, light lacto/musty funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/spiciness balance; and no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tart/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and fairly crisp/acidic/sticky/tangy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 5.5%. Overall this is an excellent sour saison. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy/acidic yeast, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the mellowly acidic/spicy/drying finish, not overly lactic. Great Mandarina Bavaria/Hallertau Blanc profile. Great balance of juicy hops and Brett/Lacto/saison yeast complexity; great pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity, with minimal residual sweetness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

12 oz can poured into wine glass.

Nice hazy golden color. Fuzzy white head of 2 fingers.

Nice funk and horseblanket on the nose, with hints of hay and apple and pear.

Flavors are really interesting and complex. It's tart like a Berliner, but has the funk of a Saison. Slight dry grass, lime, pear, lemon peel, and I'm also getting a Pineapple Lifesaver thing going on. Pretty cool.

Feel is acidic and carbonated, with a certain syrupy presence as well. Some crisp dryness on the finish.

Overall, a really nice berliner-saison mix-up, it tastes great. Highly recommended.
