Purchased bomber from Weeping Radish Brewery Store in Manteo, NC.

A: Smells like a hefe but does not look like one. Clear darker blonde color - zero head.

S: Good balance between clove phenols and banana esters. No significant bready malt aromas present.

T: Clove and banana come through in taste and are well balanced. Virtually no bread character comes through in taste.

M: Moderate carbonation. Medium light mouth feel. Not carbonated enough for style.

D: The taste and nose of this beer is classic hefe weizen. An uncomplicated, straightforward beer. A good beer because it does the balance of phenol and ester quite well. Lost points in review because of appearance and mouthfeel not fitting the style. These problems did not exist when I was drinking the beer at the brewery.

Sampled a bottle purchased at the brewpub. Poured into shaker glass.

Cloudy with darker color than most weizens. Head was big at pour, but went down to 1/2 inch and remained til finish (which was quick!).

A very strong clove/sweet smell the lingered during sample. I enjoy the clove notes, but the sweet second note was offsetting to me.

The taste was very smooth, with both the strong clove element and lite banana on first taste and the clove remaining for aftertaste.

The mouthfeel was very light, almost like a citrus soda in its viscousity. This beer could go down real easy if I was sitting with a 1/2 liter in front of me.

This beer is very drinkable and will return to the Outer Banks to try more from the source.

Pours a cloudy dull gold color with a carbonated, huge white head. The head fades to about a hlaf inch and lasts. Good astringent citrus aroma. Very good crisp taste. Very smooth, strong but not unpleasant astringent taste, and citrus flavors/some hint of banana as well. Mouthfeel is rich and drinkability is very good. I had 2 half liters with lunch and could easily have more. A very nice hefe. Weeping Radish is now brewing their own beers as well. All their beers I sampled last year were brewed under contract in Maryland. The hefe was better than anything I had last year.

Bottle courtesy of Brentfeesh: Poured a slightly hazy golden yellow beer with a nice medium foamy head with average retention. Aroma of wheat with some subtle sour and lactose note. Taste included a good dose of wheat with some sweetness but there is still a small sour and lactose feel in the aftertaste that bothers me. Slightly below your average weizen with probably a small infection.

This is a 1 L growler purchased at the Manteo location and served cold in a Chimay goblet.

A: The ale has a slightly hazy color, making me wonder if it has been filtered at all. There is a small head and the beer has a slight orange color.

S: The ale has a bubblegum clove aroma that is quite strong. The grains are also quite intense in the nose.

T: The strong clove flavors continue in the taste. The wheat and other grains make an appearance and provide a thin cereal flavor.

M: The ale is more of an American Pale Wheat Ale than a Hefe, as the flavors just don't get the job down.

D: Moderately drinkable, but the clove can be too much.

Poured 12 oz. into a weizen glass. Cloudy yellow/white body. Smallish head.

Smelled of grains, doughy, bready aroma.

Tart, sweet flavor. Metallic hint (maybe I'm tasting the gold rim of my weizen glass!?) Refreshing. I find myself quaffing this one easily.

Medium body, very smooth finish. Quinching drinkability. Nice.

The beer arrived at the table lightly hazy pale golden with a low white and persistent head which lasted to lace the glass.

The aroma was fruity with a strong spice component of clove and cinnamon.

The flavor was fruity wtih a light banana most notable and a nice spice of clove. The flavor was crisp and refreshing.

The finish was dry with lasting light fruit and clove into the aftertaste. The body was medium with a good carbonation level. A nice beer on draft with fairly high clove and low banana.

1/2 liter at the brewpub (but most likely brewed in MD)

crisp with good carbonation.
refreshing and easy to drink

12 oz. bottle, best by Nov. '05 - served chilled in a weizen glass. It is a cloudy golden-yellow with absolutely no head to speak of even though I know the glass is spotless. Smells of bananas, pepper, spiciness, and yeast - pretty standard. The flavor is essentially the same but with some sweetness, wheat, and a mild bitterness. It has a medium to light body that is initially too tingly but it becomes fairly smooth by the end. Overall it is an average hefe and doesn't even begin to compare to the draught version.

On tap at brewpub in Manteo. Thick hazy pale yellow in color sporting a 1" head, that quickly fell to surface foam. No lemon slice added (by my request). The aroma was typical hefe with banana, clove, and some citrus. The flavor was a slightly tart as wheat, banana, clove, mild bitterness, and soft white peach tones were well balanced.

Mouthfeel was only slightly crisp at the start and finished smooth, as the carbonation level seemed a bit low here. Some spiciness rode the tongue after swallowing. Drinkability is decent, but there seemed to be something lacking that I can't put my finger on - maybe it is just the mouthfeel.

Appears a light hazy yellow with a small white head.
Smell is of banana, vanilla, lemon zest, and mixed wheat.
Taste is creamy with bananas and wheat, along with a touch of sweet citrus.
Mouthfeel is chewy and smooth with medium bodied feel and slight tartness.
Drinkability is pretty good on this one. Nice and refreshing.

Label Lingo and bottle babble: Best before 12/4 notch.

Light cloudy hay straw pour with a settled razor collar.

Banana phenolic and musty citrous notes.

First Swigs: Bread dough orange sherbert. Wheat heaven. Some tart sour citrous grainy aftertaste. Middle has orange marmalade.

Crisp zesty carbonation.

Last Swigs: Extremely drinkable wheat with banana notes. Complex but not to a fault.

Beer is good. Happy beering.

Arrived a very cloudy banana/orange with a 2 finger white head of tight foam. A slice of lemon was on the rim of the glass. I wish everybody would ASK if I "want lemon with that?". The head dropped to a ring and islands quickly. (because of the lemon?).

Aroma is good banana and clove with a hint of citrus, but that could be from the slice. Pleasant yeasty/ wheat smells are present as well.

Flavor is banana/clove, tart and pleasant. Citrus, especially lemon, is also there. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Right on style. Enough bittering is here to balance the sweetness. This is very well made. Long aftertaste of banana/clove.

Mouthfeel is tart and effervescent; carbonation is appropriate for style. Plenty of bitter, also.

As hefe's go, this is a very good one. Won't get bored with this. Very good representation of style. Recommended.

I had this one on tap at the Hickory Hops Festival a few months ago, and really liked it. Their German brewmaster considers this their best product, and I agree.
Pours a chill hazed, medium yellow body, as if it was filtered. Small white head has decent retention and leaves attractive patchy lace.
Aroma is very nice, with assertive notes of lemony citrus, banana, clove, and pepper. Quite pleasant for an American Weizen.
Mouthfeel has spritzy carbonation and a light medium body.
Taste is highlighted by a pleasant wheat maltiness, complimented by sweet banana, lemon zest, coriander, clove, white pepper, and a subtle yeast presence. Nice breadiness in the wheat department..
One of the better American Weizens. Crisp and refreshing, this is an excellent one for a session.

The beer is a very slightly cloudy golden color, with a white head that is kind of low for the style.

Nose is wheaty with some yeasty notes. Plenty of banana present, with a little hoppy spiciness as well. Smells good, nothing offensive or off.

Carbonation is meduim high and the body is light.

Flavor is of wheat and bananas with some yeast in the background. Finishes with flavors of yeast.

Maybe I'm still a beer novice, but yeast floating around in my beer is not my style, at least not yet. Poured a nice light golden with enough head to top a lemon merengue pie. The clove, banana, malted smell was the best quality of all. Nice bit of spice and kick, but there's so much better offerings in this style. Liked the weeping radish on the bottle cap.

Pours a pale, very hazy golden color. No real head but a fairly bright carbonation level. Somewhat low aroma level-faint clove and banana. Yeast and sulfur. Good malt and wheat mix upfront. Some slight phenolics. Trace of sweetness. Ok body-a tad watery. A decent hefe. Not my favorite style but this one is good as far as US versions go. I like the fact they obviously use an authentic German yeast and dont try to cheat with a US strain.

12oz. bottle: The color of this one is a hazy straw yellow. Mine had a very limited white head on it. The aroma was pleasing, yet a little light. I got a faint breadiness and yeastiness to it, along with some faint citrus and clove. The taste isn’t bad. Some clove with a decent wheat flavor, as well as a tinge or sourness. Touches of the lemon and clove also. Not too bad. Thanks, Jay.

poured a cloudy amber color with moderate head that dissolved into a thin lacing. The smell is absolutely fantastic with hints of the spices to follow. If possible, the taste is even better than the smell. It reminds me of a spice cake in a bottle, and each sip is even better. Leaves a great taste in the mouthn and makes me want more.Highly recommended !!!!

pours a deepy, hazy, golden color. deep cut grass smell. The problen with this beer is it is overly-bannana flavor, and it's cloying, chalky, sweetness. Had enought citrusy-sweetness to make it, but, still odd enough to the over-all flavor profile. The problem is it is a cloying sweetness, and it takes away from it's drinkability. A good hefe, overall, but not the most intersting, or not the best by any means. A good brew to compare, but, nothing towards the top of the hefe list.

Poured a cloudy and thick looking orangey-yellow. Looked almost gelatin-still. But some carbination is seen rising to the top, no head in existance, seems flat to just look at it. Scents of banana and citrus, bit of spiceyness. Bit of carbination hits your tongue, but not too much. Not much going on flavorwise. Fairly balanced tasting. Alot of water, bit of spice in the aftertaste- some nutmeg, hint of lemon. I would personally like more flavor to be present. Decent drinkability for a session beer - especially one for a hot day where you would want to toss back a bunch. But again I would want to have a bit more flavor if I was going to come back to it.

Presented in an imperial pint glass at Mahaffey's in Baltimore for $2.75. Poured a hazy golden yellow with a light wispy head that disappeared quickly. A nice citrus banana flavor was evident with a light hint of spice.

I had a Troeg's Wheat right before this, so it skewed my review. Mostly because of the flavor. Where the Troeg's was nicely balanced, I got a heavy medicine flavor that washed out the bananas and yeasts that I was looking forward to. The carbonation led to a very nice mouthfeel. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be looking for many others...

The color of light and golden hay, highly carbonated with a small bright and white head. The aroma is soft and sweet malts. Lemony sweet grains and yeasty notes. Some pine and some bubblegum. The taste is light and lemony with a strawberry fruitiness. Lightly bodied and refreshing. Wonderfully sweet and mildly refreshing. Enjoyable.

The beer pours a hazy gold color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a nice sweet wheat scent with a dry fruity yeast finish. It has a pleasant banana and clove aroma. The taste is decent. It has a light and dry wheat flavor with a bit of yeast fruitiness. This is a bit too dry for me. There are hints of banana and clove here, but it falls short of most. The moutfeel is decent. It is a medium bodied beer with a little too much carbonation for the style. This is a good weizen. It lacks a little in flavor and mouthfeel, but it still drinks fine.

Pours a pale golden with a significant amount of haze and a stark-white head that vanishes in a flash. Spicy aroma of yeast, citrus, and allspice. Very little carbonation. Substantial, slightly foamy body, more full-bodied than most hefeweizens. Assertive flavors of German yeast, citrus, wheat, and a touch of banana. Clean finish of banana-tinged yeast. Not bad, but not my favorite hefe.
