L: Nearly pitch black. At the fringe a bit of a red hue is visible. The three finger head appears as that of a root beer float, but quickly settles to a one finger head with good retention and lacing.

S: Orange zest overpoweres the senses. It has the feel of an extract or the orange filling on a specialty chocolate.

T: The head tastes orange-cocoa wonderful! The beer itself is more orange liqueur and the chocolate is barely perceptible over this.

F: Medium-thin, soft, but with biting carbonation. One random drink was actually gritty.

O: The orange aspect was the beverage and it was overdone.

Deep, dark brown body topped with a light tan head, rich and creamy. Beautiful soft and sweet orange nose with just a hint of dark roasted grain. Fresh orange flavor intermingling with some cocoa and milk chocolate; minimal presence of alcohol. Heavy body; coats the palate with velvety texture and a touch of alcohol warmth; primarily sweet mouthfeel but with some dryness rounding things out.

This beer utilizes some excellent orange presence in its beer. Both the smell and taste feature it prominently yet it doesn't overwhelm things. There is enough cocoa and chocolate counterpoint to the orange to create some nifty complexity to the overall picture.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a half finger dark khaki head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of estery orange, dark toasted malt, lactose and milk chocolate. Flavor is dark toasted malt with a hint of char, orange, milk chocolate and lactose. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Well, there seems to be a trend towards making stouts that mimic popular desserts and some have been remarkable mimics. This one tastes remarkably like one of those orange / mild chocolate balls that are popular at Christmas. It's uncanny. The orange, like those chocolates is rather estery than like fresh orange, much like the confection. There is a hint of char in the malt that deviates from that, but to the better as a stout. And since this does not claim to be copying the orange chocolate, it may be a coincidence. I always liked those holiday chocolates and I like this too. A bit on the sweet side with a clear lactose note, bordering on a milk stout. Like with last year's orange BCBS, I wasn't sure how this would work out, but both were fine; I kind of like this one even a bit better because it is not as hot. Interesting and flavorful, definitely a dessert stout.
