Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The first in a limited edition, Brew Crew Big Beer Series. 1080 OG; 76 IBU

This remarkably balanced brew has a deep amber hue with a generous white head. Hopmouth showcases a rich, toasty flavor and sweet caramel notes because of the high-quality Maris Otter Malt used. The hops are up front in the aroma reminiscent of citrus and pine, while the resin-like flavors linger well after the last sip.

Being a fan of Arcadia Brewing and of DIPAs, I fully expected to like this beer a lot. While it's not bad, the flavor profile and hops balance we're not what I expected. There was, perhaps, a hint of cardboard (or some other off flavor), and as the beer warmed a bit, the flavor shifted and lost some of the malty depth that it started with.

It must be review brown colored ipa day. This is that dark amber into auburn and light brown territory color. Thin 1/3" head. Aroma didn't come off aromatic for hops really.

Taste is super british dipa if that is even a thing. Maris Otter malt, ok. Not overly heavy, but the toffee and burton wood feel seems like it still needs to be counterbalanced with some hops from the New World. This is one of those balanced dipa beers that but for its lacking malt sweetness, starts to approach English barleywine/old ale levels.

Pour is a tawny, honey color with a sticky cap of off white foam. Aroma is big and sweet, floral hops and caramel malts. There's a big, malty backbone to this DIPA, very much the way I like it. Resiny, floral hops round it out with a touch of piney bite on the end. Feel is on the thicker side.

12 oz bottle poured into Spiegelau glass no bottle date

A: deep amber caramel in color filmy soapy head that settles to a ring a little hazy body

S: you get a lot of resin, pine, and floral, and a huge helping of maltiness

T: wow lots of alcohol up front and that malty resiny taste with a like sweet finish and very floral on the end

M: very soft carbonation medium bodied a little oily

O: its ok nothing special. It has an odd finish on it that is the thing that stands put most about this beer. it has a lot of that floral finish on it reminds me of copper for some reason.
