Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Imperial IPA has an assertive aroma of sticky, resinous Summit hops. A complex flavor profile includes notes of grapefruit, lemon peel, and spruce. Though the flavor focus is on hops, a trio of malts provides a balance to the beer, creating a delicious level of palatability. Hints of caramel, toffee and freshly-baked biscuits are also apparent in the flavor profile.

aka: 11th Anniversary Ale.

Pour is deep orange with a dusting of white head on top. Good lacing and the beer clings to the glass with some tenacity. The aroma is sweet and floral with an underlying orange and lemon citrus tinge.

Flavour starts out floral, and quickly segues into grapefruit and pine as well. Sweet maltiness while not balancing the hops completely, reins them in. A bit of an herbal kick on the finish. This is good for the type, not absolutely top tier, but certainly good.

The mouthfeel, nice and thick, good hop bitters, all around good. Drinkability, solid. It's a good representative of the style and is priced about the same as the other beers of its type that I like.

The bottom line: Hop Rocket is another well-done bigger beer by Arcadia. I personally still prefer the west side IPA's (Hopslam, Devil Dancer) but the BC brewery has done a nice job with this one, and it's definitely worth trying out if you like the style.

Chill-hazed burnt orange with a neat two fingers of manilla folder yellow. Glowing appearance in this SA BA glass. Aromas of a pina colada, pink grapefruit, toasted baguette. Fruity sweet up front with fresh pineapple & tart nectarines. Pleasant hop flavors of zesty citrus, pepper, piney spruce. Bright fruit and oily pine hop oily mouthfeel. Alcohol twinge felt in the mouthfeel, but not too harsh. And surprisingly, not real bitter. Just enough bitterness to off-set the sweetness.

Pretty complex and interesting, to say the least. Not sure if I could have another right now, but I would certainly have again.

(12oz bottle). Pours hazy apricot color with white head. Aroma of dank hops, hard candy and a little wood or cardboard. Taste is sweet with a lemon candy note. The hops add a little bit of a sour/bitterness reminiscent of the pith of a citrus. Medium bodied with a thick texture. Bitter finish, but balanced nicely. Alcohol is hidden quite well.

A- pours a reddish amber color with a thin beige colored head.

S- grapefruit, mango, orange, caramel malt.

T- grapefruit, caramel malt, pine cone bitterness, grassy notes that linger on the palate with herbal hop oils.

M- medium viscosity with a medium light carbonation.

D- I was very excited when I took a sniff of this beer it had all the tropical fruit and citrus notes that I love, that said it didn't translate to the taste unfortunately where herbal and pine bitterness take over and the balance falls out. Could have been great but unfortunately falls short.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

Pours a clear, bright orange with reddish tint. One finger of foamy cream colored head, which leaves great sticky lacing as the beer is consumed. Looks delicious and refreshing.

Nose is a clean blend of grapefruit and pine. Sweet aroma from the citrus hops, but I'm having trouble detecting anything specific from the malt.

The grapefruit and pine blend from the nose presents itself in the flavor as well, and manages to be sweet and bitter at the same time (as opposed to a back-and-forth sweet and bitter sensation). Earthy and spicy hop notes quickly follow the grapefruit and pine, giving this beer a quite complex hop character. Herbal hop notes show up toward the end of the glass, with sweet malt coming in eventually. Though I can't detect much of anything specific in the way of malt, I can only assume that this has a solid malt backbone upon which to display the hops, as Hop Rocket manages to be incredibly hoppy without being overpoweringly so. Short, bitter finish.

Body is on the thin side, disappointingly, and ever-so-slightly mouth coating. Flavor lingers minimally but pleasantly. Pretty drinkable for the style. The hops are enticing, but they begin to overwhelm toward the end of the glass. This doesn't hurt this single glass of beer, but I'd be hard pressed to have another right after it.
