Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This Imperial IPA has an assertive aroma of sticky, resinous Summit hops. A complex flavor profile includes notes of grapefruit, lemon peel, and spruce. Though the flavor focus is on hops, a trio of malts provides a balance to the beer, creating a delicious level of palatability. Hints of caramel, toffee and freshly-baked biscuits are also apparent in the flavor profile.

Orange amber in color, minimal white head and lacing. Well carbonated. Poured from bottle dated 2/20/12 from whole foods.

Orange rind, caramel aroma. No hints of pine, floral or complexity.

Taste is disappointing. It's hoppy but in an earthy way though has a good malt backbone. Its very bitter but complexity is underwhelming.

Mouthfeel is medium, finishes very clean.

Overall disappointed in this one. Much better options available. Perhaps I had a bad bottle. See what the rest of the 4 pack holds and change the review.

12oz bottle
Served in a tulip

A - It pours orange/amber with golden highlights. It has an inch of off white head that settles to a skim.

S - The smell is different. The first thing I got was skunk weed. I also got some caramel malt and citrus, but that weed smell in always present.

T - The taste is different, too. I get some metal, caramel malt, and some bitter juniper.

M - Medium

O - This is not a beer in this style that I like. I keep getting these metallic and skunky hops flavors and smells. I hate to say that I don't like a beer from Arcadia, but I do not like this one.

A pure white head grows to a finger and a half over a cloudy, deep burnt orange-colored brew. It sits for awhile and settles to a heavy foam, leaving good lacing behind on the glass.
There's some fruitiness in the aroma, a fresh, raw hops bouquet offering citrus and herbal qualities as well as a leafiness. Malts are also evident, adding a bit of caramel. Alcohol sneaks in a bit and lingers. A bit of yeast, but not too much to be off-putting, is also detectable.
The flavor is where everything opens up. This is definitely a DIPA; not a tongue-numbing, overly abrasive one, but just as hoppy and flavorful as the great ones. Malts offer great support for excellent balance, offering some caramel sweetness while still allowing the hops to be showcased as the main feature. Lots of ripe fruits (apricot, etc.) come out under citrus and herbal flavors. A leafy greenness is also present through every sip. It's raw but refined, and fresh. There's something like spruce tips as well and just a touch of mint. Alcohol is evident without taking over or distracting. I would never suspect 9 %.This is a great beer.
The mouthfeel remains lively and active, opting for crispness but not denying a smooth flow. The body is medium. It leans dryer heading into the finish.

Pours a nice fluffy 1/2 finger head that fades at a med pace with light notched lacing, hazy pinkish orange red colored beer.

Nose candied orange hops, light floral and earthy hops, has that aura of big bitterness, slight sweet malts, reddish caramel malts, light fluffy malt, light toasty biscuit malt, hint of booze.

Taste bit of sweetness, caramel malts, toffee, light biscuit and fluffy malts, and slightly juicy malt. nice bitter bite but not quite dipa level of bitterness just malts and sweetness. Hops again bring candied orange, hint pine and earthy hops. Finish add a bit more bitterness, slightly sticky but drier, lingering candy orange hops, hint of booze and sweetness.

Mouth is bigger bodied, decent carb, just a touch of warming booze.

Overall not bad, bitterness is a bit lighter but balanced with the sweetness and malt level, a bit on the sweet side but hides the booze well, hops aren't the best profile either which i think it could have used a lot more hops all around, plus more flavorful and aromatic style hops not just bittering.

On tap at 2nd street brew house , poured in chalice, color is coppery gold with thin head that is bright white

Smell mild citrus hops and some pale malt

Taste is very well mixed citrus and pine hops, mild pale malt background, citrus comes forth as it warms

Mouthfeel is a very bitter and cloying, but expected

Overall an average to slightly above avg DIPS, needs s
a different hop mix.

Poured into pint glass from a height of 12"+/- in an attempt to creat some head. Although my efforts largely failed some space lacing on the glass remained throughout my enjoyment of this beverage.

The nose smeled citrusy, perhaps like grapefruit.

Mouth feel is unremarkably standard but not in a bad way.

The taste is hard to place for me. It's definable citrus but beyond that is for you to decide.

Overall I am enjoying this double IPA and the 9% ABV

This poured out as a golden copper color with some orange highlights in it. The smell of the beer is hoppy, it's got lots of citrus and piney notes to it on the nose. The taste is slightly sweet upfront with a floral bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel of the beer was nice, higher carbonation level with a dry tingling sensation in the back end. Overall it's an impressive IPA and I would drink this one again is I came across it.
