This is a very pretty beer. Dark brown to black, mostly opaque (of course), lighter colored head that lingers for a while and leaves a lot of "lacing" around the glass. As a high ABV dark beer there are also the expected oily alcohol traces around the foam. The appearance is very appealing.

Smell is pure bourbon and oak. Personally I love bourbon so this is a big plus, but not a lot of the base beer is detectable underneath. I'm okay with that. Lots of raisin sweetness.

Taste is like the smell, but even more raisin to go with the bourbon. It's hard to tell this is a porter unless you've tried Arcadia's bourbon barrel stout as well; this one is noticeably lighter in comparison to that one but still a lot heavier than most regular stouts. Again lots of raisin, bourbon/oak, extremely "dark fruit" sort of taste to this one. The bourbon barrel really took over this brew. I had a Bell's Double Cream before this one and the taste difference was jarring, but in a good way. Lots and lots of sweetness to this one, somewhere between pecan pie and.... did I say raisin already?

Mouthfeel is thick but not as a heavy as a comparable stout, I'd rate it as a medium-to-heavy for being a 12-percenter but this is still a lot fatter than your average non-barreled stout.

Overall this is about what you'd expect from a bourbon barreled porter, only with more bourbon than you might be ready for. To me that's a good thing.

12oz bottle
no date / red wax

A- Black/Brown like used motor oil, very light tan lacing but not much of a head. Under a light it has the particles floating around inside. Very good looking beer.

S- Bottle: Chocolate, booze, molasses, vanilla. Glass: booze, dark fruit, caramel, chocolates. Boy this smells awesome.

T- Bourbon dominant but not overbearing like a shot. After the bourbon you get some dark fruits, chocolates, caramel. Taste is excellent.

M- Full body, chewy, smooth, slick- very consistant to a good bourbon and porter

O- With the price, the wax I was expecting a lot, and it delieverd. Right from the aroma coming from the pour, the color. Then you stick your nose into it and ...just breath in deep and smile.
The taste is very bourbon dominant but has a lot of character following it, I really liked the flavor and the feel of this, I will be getting more and enjoying more often. Excellent

Wax-dipped bottle, undated.

Pours viscous dark brown and opaque with a thin tan head and scant lacing.

Aroma is deceptively light but style-appropriate, coffee and a hint of vanilla.

Flavor opens up with barrel flavors--nuts and vanilla--before swelling into a big rush of coffee, maple syrup, and chocolate mid-palate. LIngering finish is slight malt bitterness (not too chalky), coffee, and just a whiff of hops.

Mouthfeel is viscous, chewy, and substantial.

Very, very nice.
