Well, how could I miss a chance to visit Big Ben whilst in Belgium?
This one is much better than that crappy clock thingy in London though. FYI, in case you did not know, Big Ben is actually the name of the large Bell inside, and not the Tower itself!!!

Anyways, this Big Ben is right in the corner of the main square in Huy. A short, but very pleasant 20 minute train ride through the countryside from our base for the Easter weekend, Namur. Huy, situated in the Meuse Valley, with its broad river and ancient hill top Fort, is a rather picturesque place.

A 10-15 minute walk from the Railway Station, and a short walk from the River, is the old Grand Place. The dark red painted frontage of the Big Ben is easy to spot in the far corner. It has a few tables and chairs outside, which all face the inside of the square and make an excellent vantage point to watch the beautiful people of Huy, shop, drink, relax and pass their time.

Inside, the Big Ben has a reasonably large wooden bar in the middle. Tables, chairs and pews are placed all around the outer walls. An excellent Beer Carte that is unsurpassed in Huy, and well worth the journey from Namur. Over 140 beers are listed and they include some crackers, a good 5 minute perusal of the list is recommended. It includes the full range from several Breweries including Vervifontaine, Dubuisson and Val-Dieu. I had the 7% ABV 'Merveilleuse de Chevremont' from the latter, a rarely seen commissioned beer. The description in Tim Webb’s Guide of, “tastes like Duvel with a squirt of Lemon Squash” is rather apt, but the beer is nevertheless very drinkable. Service is sharp and a small bowl of nibbles is always served with each beer order.

Allegedly it does food, but only at strange times it appears. So if you’re hungry and drop on visiting during one of these strange times (as we did), then I strongly recommend the Chinese “Chez Song” just opposite if you are really hungry.

After the Chinese, we could not resist finishing off our visit with yet another beer here on the way back to the Railway Station. Watch out for the dog shit on the floor though, its everywhere!!
