A new Imperial Stout recipe! Couldn't wait to try it out.
A: Dark, dark brown; held to the light, it's practically opaque, but has a maroon/purple tinge. Small brown head, gives off some lace splotching.
S: Burnt chocolate, subtle roasty malt scent, a touch of coffee grounds.
T: Quite sweet, and a major dose of chocolate going on. Tasting a tiny bitterness, along with a cocoa nib quality. Aftertaste is chocolate malt. Has a subtle hop taste to save it from being overly sweet. This one is so much better than the previous RIS.
M: Definitely the best quality: great burst of carbonation, combined with a full body and no alcohol burn, makes for a very pleasant creaminess.
O/D: Hard to believe this is truly 9% ABV, but if it is, WOW, very well masked. One of the better beers I've had at Trinity. This should take the place of the RIS, I'd order the American Imperial Stout every visit.
