look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5
Enjoyed on Labor Day, 9/2/19, Austin, Texas.
Appearance: crimson, lots of lace
Smell: sweet caramel malt, a bit boozy
Taste: sweet and bitterish, but well balanced by some tropical fruits; my buds say a hint of watermelon
Feel: full bodied, lightly coats the tongue with its sweetness, yet not too heavy or sweet when compared to Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
Overall: Not too heavy in any one area, which is nice considering its ABV of 8.6%. My respect for Real Ale Brewery grows.

22 oz. bomber poured into nonic
(best before Dec. 13, 2015)
L: red copper, almost brown but with lots of amber; beige/tan head of foam, almost a full inch tall ... it percolates nicely and pushes up the head much like a big stout; very good sticking at the top with some lacing on the way down; brew is pretty cloudy at first, but it clears up quickly and becomes very transparent; a few specks of debris suspended in the column
S: pine, caramel, tropical fruit sweetness ... the caramel takes over, and it's much sweeter than the taste
T: bitter ... the bite is right up front and fierce; pine, grapefruit; sweetness ranges from tropical fruit to caramel; mango, orange; aftertaste is bitter ... the pine lingers and lingers; as it warms up, has a nice grape/sour grape juiciness, like a bit of sweet red wine
F: easy-drinking for a beer so big, yet it does have a bit of weight to it
O: a malty pine bomb that compares nicely to similar beers; neither the bitter pine nor the caramel malt flavor is overpowering, and the result is a good ale that's easy to drink for 8%+ ABV; reasonably priced at $5.99 for the bomber

First had poured from 22-oz. bomber, stamped best before "MAR 19 2016," purchased at Growler's Beer, Houston, Texas, into faceted mug. The bottle characterizes this Imperial Red Ale as a "crown of hops . . . atop a deep crimson malt body." Give this reasonably-priced, unfiltered beer a vigorous pour and that's what you will get.

Picked up a bomber from Specs in North San Antonio earlier this week for $5.88. Best before 11-20-17. Bottled on 2-23-17.
Beer poured reddish-brown with a nice white head on the initial pour.
Nose initially was grapefruit forward. Sitting on the porch (in the shade) the nose is oxidizing quickly unfortunately.
Taste is a nice caramel malt base that blends nicely with a pine forward hop that finished with a decent amount of bitterness.
Feel is medium to full bodied and smooth.
Overall a solid offering that i would recommend to fans of the style.

Pours a frothy, tan head. Fantastic aroma; bright hops. Flavor starts very citric and bitter; very hop forward. There is a warming booze beneath this all, and a touch of sweet malt to boot.
Overall, I really like this. It's a very pleasant hoppiness.

My go-to when I can't have BJ's Jeremiah Red.
Compared to JR the flavor isn't quite as on point but is still great. The smell isn't quite on par either. Flavors are pronounced at slightly warmer temperatures although this is probably true in a lot of cases. If you like reds try to check this one out!
