I got this one in one of Real Ale's sampler packs. The appearance is standard issue Pale Ale .. golden-orange pour, not that much carbonation, but the head did last all the way down to the last drop.
Couldn't smell much.. just some spicy hop aroma which is unmistakably Saaz.
Taste is bland, reminding me of slightly watered down orange juice, but drinkable thanks to the hop bitterness. Warming up just brings up a not so pleasant butter flavor, so this has to be drunk slightly cold.
Update: 06/11/08:
Upgrading old "C" grade
Something changed with my palate, they changed the recipe (doubt it ..), or maybe I just had a bad bottle on my first review.
This beer (best before Aug 08) had no trace of that butter flavor (diacetyl) and had a nice citrus aroma and taste too. A little less spicy this time around, this is a great example of an English Pale Ale.

Nothing extraordinary, but Real Ale brews fine brews, and even their non extraordinary beers are better than a lot of what is out there. Enjoyed December 2019.

Perfect amber color finger width off white fluffy head leaves lacing, very yeasty smell with light roast, bitter hot with a metallic after taste that lingers, medium body small carbonation

Was not as good as their dry hopped Pale Ale--you could say it pales in comparison

Not sure I understand the low score for this beer.
I had it on tap in a shaker pint. It had a nice head and good lacing atop an amber color body. The smell and taste was floral and slightly sweet, very pleasant.
I had it with pizza after a nice evening event for my wife, maybe this helped it, but I really did enjoy this beer and would get it again.

Look: Copper color with a small head (1 finger) that dissipates into lacing
Smell: A little bit of pine, some citrus, faint hints of banana
Taste: A little weak on the taste, more spice than what I smelled, but not too much spice
Feel: Thin, kinda watery. Not necessarily a bad thing though, the spice helps it from being too thin and watery
Overall: 80/100
I first drank this last Labor Day weekend while cooking out with my father-in-law. It was the first pale ale I ever had and I really enjoyed it while being out in the Texas heat over the grill. My father-in-law who is not a craft beer drinker (if he drinks beer he'll be happy with any macro, but not a big drinker at all) had a few with me and was not offended. Honestly, not my favorite in the style, but it was the first I had, and it's not half bad. It is a refreshing brew that is easy sipping on a hot Texas day. I would give this to someone new to craft beer to ease them into pale ales and IPAs.

Pours well with very little head. Color is a dark amber with the cloudiness of an unfiltered beer. Smells pretty powerful for a nose like mine doesn't do well I can smell this beer. Tastes well, full bodied lots of good hops with a little bitterness at the end. I haven't given this Brewing company the time of day and I feel like I want to try more from this brewery. Definitely worth a shot.
