Firstly, big thanks to my man icepigs for this Texas brew.

Secondly. My God.

Poured a hazy pail orange/yellow color with a thin white head; slightly foggy but transparent enough to see through it.

Even before the pour though, I was salivating from the smell of it. The yeast gives a light fresh-banana odor. It is sweet with aromatic floral hops, the combination of scents makes this a beatiful blend. I almost want to snort it.

After tasting it, I am glad I didn't snort it. Not only might I have drowned but I wouldn't have been able to taste the complexities of the beer. This 8.1% alcohol content has covered its tracks nicely. I knew it was a tripel so I figured it would have a high alcohol percent but after sipping it I had to verify the number. You don't really get the alcohol burn until half way through the beer, and even then it is not unpleasant.

I really wish this beer was available where I live. Devil's Backbone is a full bodied beer. Honestly, this is one of the best examples of the style I've ever tasted.

The bottle claims this as a seasonal, the back of the bottle says "Keep Cold" and "Drink Soon" at the bottom. Thought that was funny.

Hazy golden color with one finger head that leaves decent lacing. Certainly smells like a tripel with the candied citrus, yeast, and coriander. Taste was yeast and spice with floral hops on the end. The sweetness was subtle and slightly overpowered by the spices. Medium carbonation and medium body with a little kick of alcohol in the aftertaste.
I'd call it a good starter tripel. It didn't have the sweetness and kick I expected.

Disappearing head and minimal lace, light gold in color. Sweet dried fruit aroma. Sweet raisin and orange undertones. Good brew

Nice combination of fruit and alcohol, with a decidedly sweet finish. It's definitely a Tripel, though not as rich and full as some of my other favorites, especially among the Belgians. Good enough, however, that I buy it when I can, and look forward to it year round. Great color and taste, but not quite as much head as I might like. Love to drink it on tap sometime: only had it from the bottle so far.

Flowery nose; oily mouthfeel...definitely tastes like a tripel...alcohol fairly prominent...non-existent head, which was disappointing, although maybe it was a bit too chilled. Pretty good tripel from one of the best brewers in South Texas.

Nice tripel. Pours a pretty opaque straw color. Very modest and thin head that dissipates almost immediately.

I'm not one of these people who can smell candied yams, figs and carnation petals. Thus one does have a nice unique smell that I can only describe as like holiday spices. Very pleasant....and the taste follows precisely. Not much alcohol kick for >8%. I'll definitely have it again. Reasonable price a bonus. Got a six pack for $8.99. Tough to beat!

Great buzz, soft hop profile, more like an ale, but too pungent and sweet. Not my cup of tea. I'm more of a bitter IPA, RIPS fan. Took about 3 to 4 bottles to get used to it. No great, but not horrible. Eh....

Hazy golden color with a thin head with short retention.
Aroma of white grapes, candi sugar, sweet peaches and pineapples, and banana.
Flavor of white grapes, pears, candi sugar, pineapples, herbal hops, banana, cloves, green apples, mild white pepper, Belgian yeast and coriander. Dry aftertaste with a mild acidity and bitterness.
Medium body with tripel effervescent carbonation. Alcohol of 8.1% is superbly well hidden.
Very decent tripel and faithful to style. It is quite fruity, balancing to the tropical side.

Had this while traveling in Texas. Was excited to try a local tripel to see how they interpreted this style. I was a bit disappointed.

Interesting that it was served in a pint glass, but I can't blame the beer or brewer for that. Thin finger of foamy head that faded quickly. Slightly hazy golden/straw in color. Not much lacing to speak of.

Aroma was sweet and of banana & yeast.

Flavor was definitely too sweet. This was more like a cross between Hefe and Tripel leaning much more towards a Hefe. The banana, clove & yeast notes were different than most triples. The hop bitterness was too low and again did not fit the style. Not quite cloying sweet, but just wrong here.

Not really crisp with a bitter finish and the mouth feel had me focus on the sweetness.

Flat out didn't enjoy this.

This has to be my favorite beer ever. It starts out tart and finishes creamy smooth. The coriander flavor comes through nicely. This is a perfect all year drink.

Classic Tripel. Despite the 8% alcohol, you don't notice any booziness.

The beer pours a clear medium yellow color with a white head, which quickly disappears. The aroma is very fruity with lemons, oranges, pears and mangoes with alcohol, coriander and candi-sugar. The flavor is lemon, peach, oranges and pears with yeast, candi-sugar and spices. The spices are pepper and coriander. Medium mouthfeel and a medium carbonation.
