On tap at Hay Merchant in Houston.

A: Pours a clear ruby red color. A two finger white head forms with good retention and lace.
S: Sweet malt up front and center. Burnt caramel sweetness. Light toasted grains. Burnt sugars. Very sweet with a bit of solvent alcohol in the nose.
T: Very sweet. Pretty much cloying. Burnt caramel malt, and brown sugar.
M/D: A medium body and carbonation. A on the thin side for the style. There is some solvent like alcohol, and the sweetness is cloying. A very slow sipper for me.

This is just to sweet for my tastes. Seems just a bit under attenuated. Not one of Real Ales better Anniversary offerings.

On tap at the Draught House.

The beer pours a brown-amber color with a tan head. The aroma has a lot of sweet, sugary toffee and caramel notes. I also get some grapes and German yeast notes. The flavor is very similar. The grapes and dark fruit really come through up front, with some toffee and biscuit malts also present. The beer is very sweet and the alcohol is noticeable. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

This was Real Ale’s 16th anniversary beer, premiered at their anniversary party in June.

This pours with a caramel amber color and a thick head of foam that foams over the rim of the stein like every single classic beer photo taken for a magazine. Ha. Seriously, looks good.
There’s a mellow caramel-malt aroma and a mild malt flavor with some caramel and a lightly toasted note with an effervescence that coats the mouth. It has a dry finish and warms well. The malt profile is similar and consistent with Real Ale’s other brews. Tasty, sweet, and not too heavy.
