This is Real Ale’s porter with cocoa and ghost chilis, cask conditioned. Had at their 16th anniversary party.

This pours a porter black, like thick cola, with no foam.

This has a fantastic aroma that comes in droves, like waves or rolling thunder… I get some smoked malt, cocoa (the bits of cocoa nibs are even in the glass), a subdued roast and some coffee hints.

You can’t smell the chili spice but from the first sip on it’s evident.

The kick comes out like hop bitterness but where it really comes through is the slight burn on the finish and a lingering residual heat.

I loved this one.

This was from a 5-gallon cask at the brewery. It was more cocoa-forward than previous renderings, and the heat was nice and even, getting somewhat hotter as the glass warmed.
