Canned on 5/20/20

Pours a hazed deep golden lemon hue capped with two fingers of creamy white foam; solid head retention yields a half-finger of frothy cap/collar along with a steady layering of soapy, webby lacing around the glass.

Aroma opens with bread dough and crackery yeast, a malty base underlined with toasted honeyed grain for a quiet sweetness; inviting citrus tones lead to a rounded biscuit middle, while floral hops shining through on the back end of the bouquet add a spark to the close.

Taste brings zesty lager yeast and fresh bread dough upfront, accented by touches of lemon past the mid-palate; crackery malt, hints of honeysuckle and herbal tea leaves mark a steadily evolving bittersweetness on the back end and through the finish.

Mouthfeel offers a light body with a full carbonation imparting a fluffy prickle, filling yet not overwhelming; taut, crisp, and delicate along the palate, a brightness peaks later into the back end and into a dry, quenching, and satisfying finish.

Touching amply on an array of tones from fruity, grassy hops to sweeter, bready malts supplementing an already complex body, this beer has a bit of everything in a highly approachable package; put simply, a supremely levelheaded and roundly expressive Kölsch.

L - Think "hazy Pilsner" and you've got it - just unabashed, massive head, with unfiltered look. Yes, please.
S - Delightful cracker-malt, bread dough, and a bit of citric (lime-ish) whiff to this. Just great smell to it.
T - That same cocktail of break-citrus, and some lager notes just about perfect really. Betrays its hybrid lager/ale status in the beer world. Beguiling stuff here.
F - This is like sex in my mouth; pillowy, perfect weight to it, great balance, carbonation, lemon honey notes. Like eating the perfect break, in liquid form. Goddamn.
O - Maybe one of THE best beers Dovetail makes. Hell yes. PROST!

16oz tall boy can poured into Dovetail Kolsch Stange. Doesn't get more glassware official than this!

Appearance: straw pale yellow body with a light haze. Bone white head. Not much lacing here.

Smell: toasted grains, honey, lager yeast, and lemony hops.

Taste: Complex malt profile: dry cracker flavor and slightly sweet biscuit with honey as well. Lightly toasted grains. Fruity lager yeast with a light and bright pleasant lemon hops finish.

Mouthfeel: light bodied beer with moderate carbonation. Crisp, clean, bright, spritzy, snappy, and refreshing Kolsch. Endlessly drinkable.

Overall: Another beer in the recent limited run of cans from Dovetail. Hoped they would can it and guess what? They did! Happened way sooner than expected. No complaints here! Hands down the best Kolsch that I have encountered. Yet another beer from Dovetail that is a style that is seldom brewed by other brewers and they just make it so perfectly. Leave these infrequently brewed beer styles to Dovetail they are the experts. Hands down...end of story!

Had on tap. Cloudy yellow body with white foam and lacing. Smell has fruit esters, yeast, honey, and lemon zest. Taste is incredible, best kolsch ever? Take everything from the playful and light smell and turn up the intensity with great crisp grains and expressive yeast. Body is prototypical with a satisfying crispness and crush-ability. For a style that is not known for being to exciting this kolsch bucks the reputation, it is fantastic!

Served in a 0.2L stange glass at the brewery. Pale gold with a slight haze, topped with a finger of sudsy foam and spotty lace.

Aroma is lightly grainy with a signature white grape ester, mildly fruity but only in the background. Malty and smooth, crisp with some light hints of Kölsch yeast, fine carbonation, clean and dry finish. Very easy to drink a few glasses of this, especially during warm weather.
