Notes: This mega juicy DIPA gets blasted with huge amounts of Citra and Amarillo hops that get layered over a bed of Golden Promise malt. Tons of mango, peach, papaya, and floral hop flavors with a light/sweet graham cracker malt character.

Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. brandy snifter glass
Price: $6.29 (10 pct. off $6.99 because of a mixed 6-pack)
From: San Diego Wine & Beer Company in Miramar (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Feb. 16, 2021
Consumed: Feb. 16, 2021
Misc.: Canned on Jan. 6, 2021

Grabbed this and five other cans on recent trip to San Diego Wine & Beer Company. First two cans I grabbed were Moonraker. Had this once before, giving a taster at a bottleshare a 4.25 on Untappd on June 2, 2018. Untappd description called this “NE DIPA - This mega juicy DIPA gets blasted with huge amounts of Citra and Amarillo hops that get layered over a bed of Golden Promise malt. Tons of mango, peach, papaya and floral hop flavors with a light/sweet graham cracker malt character.”

Poured a medium yellow-to-light golden hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head. Could see some bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. Perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. Perfect retention. (Sight - 5.00)

Smelled a nice mix of Citra and Amarillo right away. Also tangerine, mandarin orange, peach, pineapple, grapefruit, mango, guava, lemon-lime zest and floral. Just as good from the can. (Smell - 4.25)

Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose. In order got Amarillo, orange, tangerine, peach, pineapple, Citra, bitter grapefruit rind, stone fruit, guava, mango, lemon-lime zest and lingering earthy malt. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Juicy finish. (Feel - 4.25)

This was excellent overall, but not quite as good as I remember it. (Overall - 4.25)

A BIF from @JayORear
Aroma: Crisp, lighter than expected
Appearance: Looks hazy to me with good color, 1 finger head and appropriate lacing.
Taste: The West coast take on an East coast style defies my ability to pin down specifics. It doesn’t taste like an imperial and it clocks in at 8.5 ABV and it’s remarkably quaffable. The crisp aroma hinted at simplicity but the taste is complex – I think the Citra hops are more present in the smell and the Amarillo in flavor – the disconnect messes with my ability to define. Certainly full of flavors I have not developed the skill to define.
Mouthfeel: For the appearance and ABV I was expecting something more viscous but this did not prove to be so, much to my delight. It actually had a lighter mouthfeel than the appearance would indicate.
Overall: I’m not a huge fan of the hazy beers but I enjoy them occasionally. I really expected to like this one more but it seems my palate doesn’t appreciate Amarillo and Citra combined. Still, very glad to have tried it, now I know.
Thanks Jay!

15 day old can from Southgate.
Looks like mango juice with fluffy head.
Smells like mango, orange, pineapple, and papaya.
Tastes like mango juice with some stone fruit and bitter/dankness. A little bread and cracker taste.
Very juicy mouthfeel. Does live up to description as juicy. No alcohol presence.
This is a world-class hazy. Super fruity, juicy, hazy, and fairly high abv to boot.

Canned: "5/28/19 To Enlightenment" I like it.
Somewhat turbid, near hazy. Fluffy white head diminishes to a milky foam top. Little lacing.
Smell is wow! Punches with Citra. Juicy citrus, floral lemon, grapefruit zest, sweet orange notes. Then some melon and maybe mango.
Taste goes further. All of the initial bursts of citrus are augmented by peach and apricot (meaty), mango, and hints of sweet pineapple. Juicy!
Mouthfeel is medium, a bit fluffy. Carbonation is spot on, really carries the flavors all around the mouth.
Overall, I am so wanting this again.

Canned 2/28/17; drank 3/11/17 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque yellow appearance.

Minimal bright white head; minimal lace.

Pineapple, grapefruit & mild sugar notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Pineapple & sugar flavors up front; mild grapefruit bite on the finish. No booze heat.

The nose promised fruity greatness; the flavor was a bit more mild than that, but it was still tasty.

Been wanting to try this one for quite some time now. Rather stoked I am able to try it today, finally. Anyways, let's dive in.
L: Pours a honey gold in color. The haze is evident, but doesn't look like a muddy murk bomb. Zero clarity though, fully opaque. From a straight-centered standard pour, about a half of finger of head rose to the occasion then vanished. No lacing.
S: Defined hop presence on the nose. Nice amounts of citrus and apricot mixed with your typical tropical fruits. Getting a decent amount of candied fruit flavor on the nose, with aromas of pink starburst being tossed in the olfaction machine.
T: Really damn good. Loaded with tropical fruit and stonefruit flavor, namely passionfruit, pomegranate, mango, pineapple, and apricot. Finish is lemon and orange with nice yeast undertones. Bubble gum flavor as well near the end of the flavor profile. Surprisingly bitter on the finish as well, which seems to balance out the jucier aspects.
F: Medium in body, medium to full in weight. Nice soft feel, with appropriate carbonation. Not quite pillowy but does have that soft lush and soft feel that I look for in beers of this style, and something Moonraker is nailing.
O: This is superb. The flavor is that glorious hop-juice combo that Moonraker keeps knocking out of the park. Very easy to drink for 8.5abv. I am very grateful to have finally tried this magnificent brew. Cheers!

Man there are quite a few Moonraker beers out there that I haven't reviewed yet. This is an elite tier hoppy brewery.

Pours a hazy yellow meets orange color with 1/3" white head similar to a couple dozen or so beers they make. Aroma tag team of Citra and Amarillo, the OG of dry hopping. Usual notes of fruits both citrus, stone and tropical. They don't skimp on the aroma hops here (or anywhere else really for that matter).

Taste is a bitter yet hazy body. I would swear there were Galaxy hops in this, just a lot of pineapple flavors for it. The body of Moonraker dipas is always light and basic in a good way. Carbonation appropriate, nice when you can mix bitter and velvety. Ample juiciness all the way through here relying on just proprietary hops, no juice.

These are really good consistently, any batch. The mouth feel also makes 8.5% go down so easy, you gots to be careful because these are very poundable yet strong even if you can't taste it, eventually you feel it. Only downside is the $4-4.50 cost on these and lack of availability unless you happen to be at the brewery.

A Very smooth DIPA with a classic hoppy/dank nose with notes of pineapple. Good depth for a DIPA but was a little disappointed in the finish on draft, but out of the can, it takes on a orange-pineapple juice taste and flavor! Juice bomb!...it has a little more citrus than necessary IMHO but it gets balanced out as it warms up. Still, another good DIPA from Moonraker!

(1/26/21 Batch) 4.25/4.25/4.5/4.5/4.25

Sweet, lemony-orange citrus and hint of citrus-dank nose on this one! Taste follows with a hoppy and orange-grapefruit citrus bitter swallow...hoppy orange juice vibes going on as it warms. This is juicy and soft on the palate and is a pleasure to drink...this is a good batch. Good stuff!
