Wow. This beer blows me away. It’s juice, plain and simple. It is one of the best beers that I’ve ever had. Thank you Moonraker!

Canned 1/18/19. Consumed from tulip glass.
L: Pours a bright orange color, resembling diluted cutie juice. The amount of haze is evident, completely opaque. This look likes a proper NEIPA juice bomb. From a simple non-aggressive pour, about a finger of a loosely packed off-white cap formed and dissipated rapidly. Glass lacing is minimal but does leaves spots of sudsy foam randomly on the edge of the glass.
S: Very fruit-forward. Loads of melon, orange, grapefruit, lemon, and papaya with hints of cracked black pepper. Crackery yeast aroma is also detectible which meshes well with the lemongrassy hop profile. Overall, it is very juice-driven.
T: As expected, a hoppy juice bomb. Tons of citrus with healthy amounts of mango, pineapple and papaya. The finish consists of grassy hop flavor with lingering notes of apricot, pineapple, orange and yeast. Slightly dry at the finish with pleasant aftertaste.
F: Medium in body but somewhere between medium to full in weight. It has that soft, creamy, pillowy texture that I love in NEIPAs. Carbonation is low to moderate, leaning more to the lower side of the spectrum. Alcohol is not apparent.
O: This is an exceptional brew. As I toy with it and try to sit and keep myself from glugging it too fast, it really starts to blossom. The smell has gotten better as it sits, becoming even more aromatic. The flavor is straight juice, and the feel ties up the entire experience. This is one of my favorite IPAs I've tried from Moonraker yet. Drinks deceptively easy for 8.5 abv. I would definitely drink again, and am very glad to have tried. Cheers!

I live not far from Moonraker, but because of my schedule can never make it up there for can releases. Today while shopping in my local grocery store I found some fresh cans! I got one of each.

First up..."Papillon."

Canned: 3/28/19...inscription below the date reads: "C'est Bon" (a lot of French meanings with this phrase). So we are 3 weeks out.

L: Hazy as all get out. Turbid Milkshake? No. Hazy NEIPA? Yep! 5!
S: Man...this checks a lot of boxes. Mostly stone fruit/pineapple/papaya, but a typical herbaceous note creeps in...Really, really good!
T: Honestly, bitter West Coast IPA's are my thing. This is so much the opposite of that. Incredibly juicy...the alcohol is so well hidden. It almost tastes like a wine cooler (but in a really, juicy awesome way). There is a subtle herbaceous note, but it's fairly subdued. I have had all of the East Coast greats; this is right there. I wish it had a little more IBU's to balance the sweetness (and I'm really splitting hairs). 9 out of 10 people would call me crazy...and I'm ok with that. For me, it's missing that last little nudge of focus/clarity on the palate. Most people would put the taste as a 5. It's very close.
F: Agitated mouthfeel is full flavored and lively. Before that...a tick thin (and I'm really going after this one). As a homebrewer, I can attest...Moonraker has it "dialed in."
O: C'est Bon? Hell yeah...however you want that to mean! It's a forward-facing NEIPA that is done incredibly well. Man I am really splitting hairs here...but out of the many California Contingent that brew NEIPA's (CellarMaker, Altamont, etc.) this seems a notch up on those (and those guys are my favorites). It's not the quintessential NEIPA...but it check's damn-near all of the boxes. I think just a few more IBU's would put this in another realm. I am blown away how good this is.

Canned on 1/18/19 - consumed on 2/18/19. Poured from a tall-boy into my Bruery tulip.

Turbid jonquil body with a fine papaya-whip ring. Vague lacing; average retention.

Potent aromatics, dank and juicy (as they say) with cannabis, mango, tangelo along with a faint berry note.

Herbaceous and spicy palate entry with weed, wildflowers, lavender, and coriander. The fruit flavors come next with hints of guava, papaya, strawberry, and green apple candy leading into a tangy medium finish. Medium-low bitterness throughout.

Medium bodied, creamy and a little sticky with well concealed alcohol.

Just a little too sweet to my tastes, but the aromatics are wonderful. One of the better examples of the style I've had on the West coast.

L - 1.5 finger dense, bright white head is slow to recede, eventually revealing a gorgeous orange body.

S - tropical vacation! Pineapple, mango, grapefruit, herb.

T - dankness is more pronounced in the taste. The tropical fruits from the nose follow next, but are subdued. Slightly dirty, bitter middle with some alcohol creeping into the finish. Moderate bitterness. Low sweetness. Moderate-low booziness.

F - medium body with higher than normal carb. You can feel it bubbling away on the finish.

O - wish the taste matched the look and nose, but as-is this is a well constructed NE IPA.

Look: Light orange, very murky, average head formation and retention, above-average lacing.
Smell: Citrusy up front, with other typical tropical notes; the aroma is medium in intensity for the style; very pleasant. (You can also tell that there is Strata in this beer, but I'm not sure how exactly to qualify that part.)
Taste: Citrusy through and through, but again, with those Strata melony-dank notes (again, sorry for the poor description). The taste is pretty strong, and overall quite great.
Feel: Medium to full body, medium carbonation, smooth texture, no apparent alcohol. Spot-on for a NEIPA.
Overall: Another fantastic Moonraker hazy. Papillon feels super-composed and well put together; all the flavors work extremely well in tandem. I hold these guys as the best producers of New-England style beers in Northern California, and it's because of beers like this one. Quite simply, this beer does everything well.

Another impressive hazy DIPA from Moonraker! Sweet, tropical-creamy, hoppy nose on this one! Great aromatics...taste follows with sweetness upfront and then a well-balanced tropical bitter finish. This has really good depth and a creaminess that leaves a nice touch on the tongue that lingers a bit. The crazy thing is that it gets even better as it warms! Great!
