A blend of the first two batches of beer we brewed at Alesong, our Imperial milk stout was matured in bourbon barrels to add velvety layers of vanilla, coconut, and bourbon to the sweet and chocolatey malt flavors of the base stout.

Tasting at Mike's on 1-11-24. Mike acquired this via the Rare Beer Club. Two 500 ML bottles were shared between four of us. The nose was very nice as the barrels were prominent and the chocolate lactose blending in nicely. Taste was well done as it followed the nose. Taste did come across a little disjointed meaning the barrels stood out and the chocolate lactose stood separately. Finished was surprisingly balanced for a sweet stout. Very enjoyable!

Poured from 500 mL bottle into snifter.
A: Pours a very dark brown hue with a nice 1/2 inch dark mocha head with decent retention.
S: Sweet bourbon and milk chocolate hit first, followed by vanilla, caramel, and brown sugar.
T: Sweet bourbon, smooth milk chocolate, toasted caramel, subtle oak, brown sugar, vanilla, and a hint of coconut.
M: Medium heavy body. Very smooth and slightly velvety feel. Layers of dark malt and bourbon sweetness.
D: An excellent example of style! Nice base brew with several good variants too.

From a 500ml bottle, ‘vintage 2022.’ Served in the German engineered precision designed Spiegelau barrel-aged tulip glass.

Pours an unhighlighted oak-black with a scant finger of loose mocha foam. The head endures for maybe 20 seconds, leaving a creamy collar and a rousable sheet of caramelly, oily lacing.

Nose is pungent, boozy, chocolatey. Strong aroma of chocolate and caramel. Very nice.

Taste is utterly in line with the nose. Tasting Rollos… and I could almost stop right there. Actually, I think I will. It tastes like Rollos. Really, really boozy Rollos. There’s a slightly ‘off’ tacky aftertaste which I’m attributing to the milk sugar but which is temporarily fixed by the simple expedient of taking another sip.

Feel is smooth and creamy, fairly full bodied and boozy af, utterly right and proper relative to the style and the abv.

Overall, about as fine and well-executed an imperial milk stout as you could expect to have dropped on your doorstep. The label - which I’m only reading now - promised me ‘velvety layers of vanilla and coconut’ but I didn’t detect any coconut at all. No big deal because, if I hadn’t read the label, I wouldn’t have known to miss it.

Sampling a 500 ml bottle poured into a snifter at cellar temp. Bottle is part of a trade received earlier this year.
The beer pours a dark coffee color with a creamy, dense beige head of 2.5 cm. this foam fades slowly to a sturdy edge layer and one large island in the center of the glass.
Aroma is rich and malty, rich cocoa or hot chocolate notes with hints of vanilla and brown sugar mixing with some mild bourbon notes. Not fusol alcohol heat anywhere, and also no hop presence on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body and very silky smooth texture, gentle rolling carbonation smooths out the physical traits and makes the beer very easy to drink. Which is a little dangerous for a 12.5% beer.
Flavor is chocolate malts and some light roast note and a bit of vanilla. Bourbon comes through a little stronger here and lingers long after each swallow. Still no fusol heat or warmth, which is nicely well hidden for 12.5%. No hops anywhere on this beer.
This beer is pretty much what I expected it to be based on the label and descriptor on the back. Glad to have tried this one.

Look - black and thick with a thick tan head and great rimming and lacing
Smell - chocolate with a nice woody hint
Taste - delicious sweet but not overly sweet chocolate followed by a toffee caramel woody barrel
Feel - medium full body and creamy with a very light carb
Ovearl - really delicuos beer that would be even better if it was slighly thicker

500ml bottle from Tavour. Black pour with a filmy beige head. Aroma is cocoa, toasty malts, then barrel notes. Taste is more cocoa, sweet, milk chocolate. Alcohol heat comes on very late, almost like it's not there, then...pow! Cocoa dominates

Pitch black body with a khaki cap. Smell is typical ba stout: warm bourbon and rustic oak meet baker's chocolate, vanillins, molasses, mild roast and a touch of leather. Tastes as it smells, barrel is not very strong but present, chocolate probably strongest flavor by a hair. Feel is warm, velvet smooth, medium bodied, and malty to the max. A well rounded ba stout that hits in the place you expect
