Pours a medium to dark coppery amber with a thin off-white head that dissipates to patches leaving slight lacing. Aroma of mildly caramel malt, fresh and dried stone fruit, orange, apple and clove; somewhat like a tripel profile, a bit boozy. Flavor is caramel malt, stone frui; leaning towards dried apricots and peaches, figs, a hint of tangerine, pear, clove. Finishes with toffee, mixed light dried fruit and clove. Medium bodied with light creaminess and good carbonation, despite the quiet pour. Although the clove spicing leans in the direction of spicing for a tripel, the fruit and malt flavors are convincingly traditional Belgian, very authentic for a domestic quad. Lots of fruit flavors make this moderately complex and the fruit is well supported by the malt. A very nicely done quadrupel. Many of the beers this brewery produces on the sour side; not my styles, but everything else I've tried has been really well made. I look forward to sampling more from Alesong.

Bottled 10/16, enjoyed 11/20. Just a month over the four year mark. Little did they know what was in store at the time...

Bottle opens with a pop, but no excitement. Thankfully. The beer pours a ruddy copper-auburn, rich in color, minimal foam. I know it’s a Trappist-style quadruple, but my first impressions on the nose and palate are more akin to an English barleywine, well aged—lots of raisin, a little leather, some orange marmalade, a spackling of hoppy bitterness on the finish. Tightly effervescent, even as it ages out of the preschool years. Alcohol isn’t noticeable, even at 10%. This held up incredibly. Fantastic.

Really enjoyed this quad. Very well balanced.
The look is as one would expect for a quad, very dark amber, with a decent head, although more subdued than the Belgians I've had.
Smells of molasses, raisons, grains and a touch of alcohol.
Taste is more of the same. There is the sweetness expected of a quad, but it doesn't dominate. It's well balanced between the sugar and grains. Alcohol warmth is noticeable at the end.
Overall I think this one compares well to the Belgians and is noticeably better than other domestic quads I have had. I anticipate drinking more of these.

alesong has my attention. everything i have had from them has been fantastic, and this quad that just hit the market is one of their best yet. its super authentic, nuanced, and refined, and if you told me this was a new st. bernardus beer or something, i would believe you 100%. its rich and caramely in appearance, frothy off white head on a maple syrup colored body. its a little less dark in grain in aroma and flavor, less of the dried fruity and heavy sweet malts, more of a light toffee and toast thing going on, a different shade of quad, but no less complex. notes of vanilla, apple cider, and butterscotch all throughout, and the yeast here is amazing, slight spice to it, some bright esters that cut through the sugars a bit, and a wonderful life it gives here, effervescent carbonation on a creamy fuller body, almost dry in the end, especially for the style, really impressive depth to this overall. one thing thats interesting to me though, is that the label mentions saccharomyces on it, which we usually associate with wild beer, but doesnt always have to. i wonder if there is some intent for this to be aged and let some wild elements develop, or if this is a broader term for the yeast in general. i think its appropriate in both contexts, and while i dont taste any sour or funk at all here, its very clean, i could see the desire of that to develop in the cellar (this was just released after all), and knowing the rest of their portfolio has some wild beers in it, i would not be at all surprised if that was the plan. either way, its certainly not wanting for any of that at the moment, and needs no time in a cellar to be ready to drink. it hides its strength very well and already has a rich maturity about it. wonderful beer from alesong here, who is fast becoming one of my favorites. love what they are up to, and this quad is wonderful for the winter and the holiday season. fairly priced too, i would definitely grab one...
