I just move to the Hartford area and was pleasantly surprised by this place. Easy enough to find and get to, it's very close to I84 and Westfarms Mall.

A very nice selection of all kinds of beer, from a decent selection of Belgians to some cases of macro stuff tucked away in a corner. Great selection of winter brews when I was there. Heavy in the local and regional beers. Plenty of sixers in the fridge as well as bombers and 750s. Also sells liquor and wine.

The prices were reasonable, no real bargains, but nothing seemed to be grossly overpriced either.

This Place has about as good a selection as you can get in New Britain and evan hartford (asside from Liquor Depot). However the isle holding the imported beers always has the sun directly on the bottles which will skunk up the clear and green bottles very quickly.

Also they obvoiusly dont care about holding old bottles so always check the dates if they have one. I bought a paulaner octoberfest thinking that it had just become availabe in august to later on find out that they kept in the back after they could no longer sell it in last season and once august came along they tried to sell the old bottle(and succeded). so this wsa no mistake, they knew what they were doing. I know, its my fault for not checking the date but common!!! just dont make the same mistake I made.

The Pricing is not as good as Liquor depot but better than most stores in CT.

The selection there is quite good. Much DFH, ST, Avery, Great Divide, basic Belgians, lots of Brits. I can always find something there and I never have to leave empty-handed, which is more than I can say for some other local stores.

Their "service" mentality seems to be that the staff talks with each other and the customers help themselves. This is fine for guys like us who know what they are looking for and like to browse in peace, but newbies might like some input, which you will NOT get here.

But I can't give them a pass on their west facing glass storefront exposure which results in a beer tanning salon.

I'm going to make this quick. In the World of Ct Bev Marts (there are 4), this is a tie for 2nd. Newington CT, Bev mart is heaven for CT beer lovers in the Hartford Area.

NB Ct bev mart is a shit show. While they stock plenty of Craft beers from a ton of brands, they consistently have past date beer, place craft beer by the windows where it bakes in the sun and often sell last years seasonals, which is cool if its a high alcohol beer (pre-aged!), but if its anything else its not good.

The prices are higher then a lot of stores and the staff is extremely unknowledgeable and the import/Belgian selection is a bit slim. Prices are whacky (since when is SNPA almost $4 and how is magic hat 2.40?) and you just get the impression that they just don't care about beer.

A pretty good selection, but the past date beer, obvious lack of care and year old seasonals is unacceptable.

This place is right near where I live. Pretty good selection, but not as good as another store in New Britain, Liquor Depot. This place recently got the whole line of Stone that's available in CT. They have a nice lineup of Rogue, Great Divide, Ten Fidy, Dale's, Victory. TONS of DFH. Good amount of fridge stuff available if you need something cold. The previous comment about the SN Celebration Ale is correct.
The staff doesn't really know crap about beer, but will gladly order anything for you if it's available. One of their employees actually asked me for beer advice.
Something I've noticed is that their $10+ 6-packs can run a buck or two more than most places in the area, and the Stone RIPA is $2 more than everywhere else I've seen it.

A nice bonus is that there are numerous good looking girls that work the registers there.

had to complain to the manager yesterday. Every year, this store tries to disguise its overstock of the previous year's release of Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale. Consistently, year to year, they do this. While the current 2009 SNCA is already available in stores, CT Bev Mart in New Britain is trying to pass the '08 off as the new release. It is stacked halfway to the ceiling in 12packs "promo-style" and 6-packs are placed alongside other legitimate seasonal releases. No attempt is made to make the customer aware of the beer's status or to discount it as such. Total scam, taking advantage of the unaware consumer. Manager's angry reply was, "So, don't buy it." I am now taking my business elsewhere.

I went to CT Beverage Mart today and was a little dissapointed in the selection. They really didn't have much I couldn't get anywhere else. I did pick up a bottle of Newport Storm '07 which i hadn't found before. However, I wish I could check the reviews on my phone, they are not very good. I will let it age. Back to the store. The prices were average to high except they did have the Ten Fidy on sale for $10.50, which is pretty good. Overall I didn't find it to be worth any type of drive over 10-15 minutes from home.

This is the best CBM I've been to, with the best selection. VERY good pricing too, compared to other stores in the area. One row each of domestic and import brews and a seasonal rack. Also lots of random sales, most of which are pretty legit (I picked up some 2006 Bigfoot a couple months ago, also Southampton 750s that improve with age were also on sale). Pretty good selection. For domestics: Allagash (including the special releases), Southern Tier, Rogue, Avery, Ommegang, lots of local and some regional beers. For imports: Rochefort, Achel, McChouffe, Schlenkerla, JW Lees, De Ranke, and more. Excellent case selection too (probably in the best in CT). Check it out!

Very nice store. Rochefort, St. Bernardus, Ayinger, DFH, Southampton, Thomas Hooker, just for a sampling of the sorts of beer here, ya know, all the good stuff that you want at a good store. Picked up what must have been their last Unibroue 15th since it was on sale for a nice price, 4 or 5 bucks. I never really know what to say further than that, it's all organized nicely, knowledgeable looking folks were on the prowl...it was clean...well lit...quick check out time...what's there to say really...

I went to this place with some friends while planning for a Bar-B-Q in New Britain. I have to say that I was not expecting anything like this. This liquor store has everything you could possiby need to throw a party or bar b q or even a wedding reception. Every type of liquor you could imagine as well as a ton of beers. The selection was pretty good with alot of imports and interesting beers as well as the seasonals that I love so dearly. This place is a great place to go and it wasn't too expensive either. I am used to most of the small liquor stores that are mostly the macro brews piled to the cieling so this was a pleasant surprise. If you're in New Britain in need of a beer, this is a great place to go.

the only place I go while at CCSU. It's so close to the campus. I used to go to the one near stop and shop but that one is crap. I love the selection here. Lots of great beers on the shelf. Most stores don't have alot of good stuff begind cold slidding doors but this place has some. If you see the big shelf with all the good beers go and check out the other side to find the non american beers. Also some other places a worker will come over and chat and give you advise and opinion, but not here so you're on your own, but that's ok sometimes.

Good place to come if you're around the area. They have a pretty large selection of beers. You will definitely find multiple things you like. They have small tastings on occasion. The people there don't seem to know too much about the beers which is unfortunate. But what do you expect from a chain with employees that hardly look of age to drink?

One thing that bugs me is the mall traffic. It's located right down the street from the West Farms mall. It's kind of annoying to get to. So that's annoying. I prefer my more local tiny beer store, but they don't always have EVERYTHING I'm looking for.

This is part of a small chain in central Connecticut. This particular location is the smallest of three and it shows. The above average beer afficianado will appreciate the decent selection, but you really need to go to the Newington location for the extensive variety demanded of the connesiour. Never had a bad service experience, but getting in and out of the parking lot due to it's proximity to the mall can be a hair raising experience. You will not find the diversity of beer. They are particularly weak in the Belgian selection.

Checked out this location over near Westfarms Mall. Kind of tricky to to get in and out of this place traffic sucks, try not to go during rush hour. This place is better than the Newington location, much larger beer selection.
It is huge so take you time. Grab a basket, there are a ton of great finds in here. Cooler straight back from the door loaded with locals, regionals, micros, macros imports. Huge display in front of the cooler of mostly regional and local brews 6 packs and bombers.
Way back to the right side of the store is a huge import and Belgian display, I didn't even know about until my second visit. Lots of beer gift packs such as Sam Smith, Duvel, Unibrue, Chimay etc. The help here is good and they know their beer.
They also have beer tastings on Friday afternoons (which scores points in my book!) Mostly local and regional brews. Berkshire Brewing Co. was pouring when I visited. Besides the parking situation this place rocks!

I came to this area on business and noticed this place 3 steps from my hotel (not literally, but close enough). This is like Mike's Discount Beverage, in Charlotte NC, on steroids. Not only did they have the "normal" beer nerd stuff, but they also had things I don't know anything about.

I talked to the guy working there to get some pointers, while I was holding a DFH 120 in my hand and found that they have 5 cases! I was in heaven. He ended up pointing me to a local barleywine by Thomas Hooker and set me up with a place close to eat and drink good beer.

I like this place very much. I used to stop in when traveling in the area, but since I moved to New Britain it is nice to have such a wide selection so close.

The best way to find the beer is walk in and either go to the far wall straight ahead for warm cases of mostly macros or take a right and go to the back wall to get to the seasonals and the cooler. Either way just follow the wall around for all the different sections. The warm singles are on the last shelf facing the macro cases.

There is generally a fantastic selection with choices from Harpoon, Rogue, Paper City, Dogfish Head, etc. The warm singles have a nice Belgian selection. Widest selection I have seen in a long time.

Service seems to be a little heavy on helping the wine shoppers, but it seemed like the typical, unless you ask for help, we leave the shoppers to do their own looking.

When I asked about special orders they actually had what I was looking for in stock in the back. I was looking for DFH 120 Minute IPA, and was surprised to hear the salesman say they sell a fair amount of it. The floor man asked the young man working the beer return counter.

Prices are reasonable, but don't quite fall into the cheap range that I would expect from a discount chain.

Was surprised to see they had signs up for a Harpoon tasting, but was disappointed when I read further only to find out they were a week out of date. Just need to keep my eyes open in the future.

Definitly the place to go if you need something that's not availiable in your local mom and pop 200 sq ft package store. However, pass it up if you are looking to save an extra buck on your choice.

a rather large store, most, as usual, is devoted to Wine and Spirits. the beer selection is quite good. i picked up a Sam Adams Imperial Pilsener, a Double Bag, and a 3 Monts, but they have much more. lots ot Harpoon, Sierra Nevada and Paper City Brewery. There is only one thing, the singles selection is rather small and you canNOT break up six packs. Oh well, still worth a stop when going by. I did stop at the checkout to drool as i looked at the bottle of Utopias upon the shelf behind the cashier....someday.

addendum 4/12/06, found the singles aisle on my next trip, was on the other side, much larger than i originally noticed, lotsa Belgians, good stuff

This is a decent place to shop for beer....especially if you're in the area...West Farms Mall...Border's, etc....big shopping area.
The store has a pretty good selection of international beers and Americans. There's one big aisle with it all pretty much laid out..easy to browse beer. I'm always looking for Belgians and was not disappointed....good selection of those...mostly 750s.

My only complaint with this place is that I've been in here a lot over the years.. and except for the time I was cruising the wine area...no one has ever asked me if I needed help.

The last time I was there, it must have been obvious to the staff member that was in the beer aisle with me, that I was spending a lot of time looking, and never once did he ask if I needed help...or even say hello. I expect this from a lesser establishment...but this is a good store...in other stores of this type...I'm always greeted by someone and a little or a lot of beer talk happens.

I will go back...I usually know what I want anyway, but it's always fun to talk to the staff and get opinions or suggestions...seems like it would be good for business too.

Fairly local to me and I tend to stop in fairly often. They have a nice selection of beers on the right side of the store. On one said of the beer isle is the demostic micros and on the other are the imports. I find that they have a nice selection but have certainly found beers that have been a bit on the old side. All the way in the back are the coolers full of beer as well. Although I have never been approached by an employee here I cant say the service is good or bad....pleasant anyway. They carry alot of good names and will have something for any beer lover. Definately worth stopping in.

I have been here a bunch of times and GODDBYEOHIO has written a great specific review; he is right, there is a penchant for "girl next-door, cleavage prone, wearing a lot of make-up type girls" at the checkout. They all seem very nice I guess.

As for the beer, its a mixed bag really; I can't say its a bad selection but its really focused on pushing certain beers it seemed. One of the young college types associated with a dinner once got me to by a 4 pack of Maredsous 8 which I really didn't dig too much;

But I did buy all of the 7/03 troubadour blonds that they had in stock for under 2$ a piece. I wish they would see that someone bought 5 singles and order more. I would buy 2 cases at that price.

They do have the major players when it comes to Belgians and micro-domestics. Definitely a better selection than liquor depot across town- but then again this location is essentially in West Hartford.
