Since New Englanders know a little something about IPAs, we had to bring our best with Greylock. The New England Style is a departure from traditional bitter IBU-packed IPAs, but it is not easy to execute at 12%! Greylock is curiously turbid and cloudy, with just the right amount of hoppiness, big aromatics, and tasty citrus flavor. We paired a special blend of sought-after Pacific Northwest Hops with traditional New England style yeast to give a deliciously juicy and floral Imperial brew that’s completely unfiltered, so your palate will enjoy hints of fresh-squeezed grapefruit, orange and passionfruit with every sip!

Bright, juicy, fruity, floral and dangerously smooth, Greater Good's hazy IPA might be considered a quadruple IPA by some, but to the brewery, this is just beer.

Gretlock plops into the glass with a firmly foggy goldenrod hue, floating a creamy ivory stained froth. As a strong floral perfume carries a candied pez-like scent onto the nose, flower arrangements, ripe citrus and tropical fruit, melon and stone fruit all add to the aromatic mix. Sweeter introductions are in order as a firm base of cereal, shortbread and honey set a malty stage early.

The hops simply blossom on the middle palate while pulling from the grain sweetness with their full and fruity display. Mandarin oranges, red grapefruit and lemon give a racy taste ahead of a more tropical array of pineapple, mango, passionfruit and papaya give more exotic flavor. All wrapped in a juiciness of nectarine and cantaloup, the ale eventually tightens into a medium snappy finish with a moderate hop bitterness of tea, verbena, fresh grassiness and botanical herbs.

Full bodied, rounded and surprisingly drinkable, the beer finishes just off-dry with a sweeter tilt to a bitter-sweet balance. Its amazing how much fruit flavors come out of this imperial hazy IPA.

16 ounce can.
Canned 02/15/23.

Moderate pour yields a one and a half inch off white head over a slightly hazy light golden body with sticky lacing.

Nose of fruit; tropical and a bit of citrus.

Taste is fruity, a tad hot, and surprisingly easier to drink than I anticipated going in.

Nice feel with medium body and medium carbonation.

Overall, as for "easier to drink going in?" Ha! It has succeeded in creeping as creepers do, going out!
If you haven't tried this yet, go for it. It won't ruin ya!

Cheers!

I bought this by mistake. I like trying new beers & I'm a fan of Mt. Greylock the actual mountain that the beer is named after, and I vaguely remembered another beer by this brewery that I liked. So I bought a 4-pack. But I didn't look closely enough at the label; I thought I was buying a DIPA. I seldom drink anything with ABV greater than 8.0. When I got home & looked again at the can & saw 12% ABV I said, "Oh dear".

So I'm not your deal reviewer for this kind of beverage; take this for what it's worth.

The look is really great. Lovely orangish color, nice head & all that. Really, quite handsome.

Smell: well, here's where your mileage may vary. I get hints of fruits & pines & malt & resins, but what I mostly get is booze.

The taste is nice and complex.Malty, but not as malty as I was expecting. It tastes good. But boozy.

The feel is perfect; just what I like. A bit viscous, pleasantly carbonated.

Overall, much better than I expected given the ABV. If you could give me the exact beer drinking experience with the alcohol cut in half, I'd be a very happy man.

My overall 3.75 rating should not be taken as a slight on the beer. For what it is, it's pretty great. I can't imagine liking a 12% more than I like this one. It's complex, it's tasty, it has great 'mouthfeel'. But it's not for me. Too boozy, simple as that.

This particular version is tapping in at 13% abv.

Dense head; slow to decay. The liquid is dirty gold and hazy. Extensive, near blanketing lacing.

Creamy lactose nose with a floral hop nose. I get a light pale malt base with a light toasted bread smell.

The beer is boozy, particularly in the swallow. The base is an oily pale malt. Nearly dry. The hop provides bitterness in a balanced way. Full body. Modest carbonation. The finish reminds me of bourbon due to the alcohol warmth and strong malty flavor. The hop is there but it's soft for a DIPA.

Canned 9/28

First of all, this masks it's 12% exceptionally well. Sweet melon and mango up front with moderately bitter orange at the finish. Scant caramel malt balance. I've never finished a pint of something this strong, this fast. Glad I got to try this beast.

Poured into a small chalice: color is gold, not really 'hazy' but not transparent, head is off white with fine to small bubbles and presents 1 inch thick then dissipates to thin top with frothy and a ring along the glass and some lacing.

Smell is citrus, melon, berry, malt sweetness, light boozy sweetness too.

Taste is similar with citrus, melon, berry, maybe some earth, malt sweetness and then boozy/alcohol sweetness with warmth.

Mouthfeel is low carbonation, moderate sweetness, low bitterness - sweetness and drying start to amplify with warmth.

Overall a big IIPA that drinks much smaller but the flavors are not emphatic or tangential from others in this style.

A: crystal clear; medium gold in color; 1 finger finely pored ivory head that receded to a wispy cap; OK lacing;

S: canteloupe, apricot, and booze;

T: watered down pineapple juice followed by watered down grapefruit juice; from the middle through the finish, it's quite boozy; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; alcohol is warming, but not hot;

O: not something I would choose again;
