this place has a good selection. the prices are decent for the quality and quantity. i think that i like their maumee store a bit more but this one is closer to me. a lot of the beer is stored at room temp which i dont like but it would take a lot of cooler space to hold as much as they have.

the beer is sorted by country and then style. a better selection of U.S. craft beers than imports. i think maumee shines more on their selection of imports. i was hoping to find some more selection from belgium and germany than i did. maybe i have had too many!

suckem up and movem out!

Awesome beer selection. Well organized by style. A very good amount of cold stuff. Tons of singles/make your own options. I found a lot of Ohio stuff I'd been hoping for, as well as some limited stuff. Will definitely go back for more!

PS, there's a Tony Packo's cafe right by the exit- added bonus for sure!

Honestly one of the best beer stores I have been to in the U.S. Amazing selection was there today ad scored several Alesmith Speedway Stouts, 3FFFs Dreadnaught, and so many more amazing one offs that are just gleaming on the shelves. The staff here categorizes every beer area by style. I leave blown away every time.

Very similar to the Maumee store, with one of the best selections in the Toledo area. Prices are reasonable, and service is good too. I'd say the employees are reasonably knowledgable. Not the best, but not the worst either. Limited releases are hard to get, but I've scored FFF, Bell's planet series, Clown Shoes limiteds, and some other hard-to-get stuff here. It helps if you're a regular, but just ask the guys if they have any limiteds. They usually don't put them on the shelves. Overall, a good place to buy beer, and they have a great selection if you're not looking for really rare stuff.

Very friendly staff that offered to help me find whatever I needed. The staff was also very knowledgeable about the different types of beers. Very good selection better than the Anderson's market in Sylvania. Honestly, probably the best place to get Craft Beer in all of Toledo.. Singles were a little pricey, but not overly so. I have gone back multiple times and will continue to do so.

This is the greatest place I have ever been too for beer. Upon entering the beer section, Which is damn near 5 aisles in length, You are surrounded by almost anything you could possibly imagine at very fair prices. Six-packs, over 800 different single bottles to choose from, A walk-in cooler filled with keg-can's of beer that I have never even heard of.

The atmosphere is great and the beer area manager is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. If you can't find it, He will find it for you in a matter of seconds. They still of course have your usual InBev products but they're kept to a minimum. this place is all about the craft's.

I only wish it were closer to me, As I live in Michigan. This place knows how to market and sell beer. I guarantee you will never leave here empty handed, Or just with one full mix-a-six.

Stopped on a recent business trip.

Incredible selection. Tons of single bottles on about 4 sets of shelves, plus 6 or 7 end caps, to make your own sixers. Weyerbacher, New Holland, Shorts, Lexington Brewing, Dogfish Head among the many singles and sixers available. Also good selection in the coolers (3 or 4) with a good mix of imports (many belgians), domestics, and locals. Several Clipper City Heavy Seas selections available.

Although assistance wasn't asked for, a manager in the area did offer to help me out and grabbed a box for me to package my selected brews. I like a place that offers help even when you don't ask.

Prices seemed about right for what I was used to in Chicago area. A couple singles seemed a little high compared to what a full sixer costs. But otherwise, everything seemed reasonable.

Another place in Toledo to stop in to find a gem or two.

Anderson's is a great grocery store. Not only do they have a great beer selection, but you can put together a bread and cheese plate in the same visit.

They have an excellent selection of local craft beer. Large variety from Founders, Southern Tier, New Holland, Arcadia, Great Lakes, Shorts, Weyerbacher, Hoppin Frog and just about every available beer from Bells.

They also had a good amount of top shelf imports to choose from.

The liquor department is helpfull. Prices were fair as well. Definately worth stopping by.

I'm just getting around to reviewing The Anderson's after several months. The Anderson's is a general store including groceries, lawn & gardening supplies and general merchandise. The location is very close to Joseph's Beverage Center, another of the must stops in Toledo.

The quality is good, the beers appear to be rotated properly and there is a good turn over (not many stale beers).

The service is only fair. There is staff offering help often, but the craft beer is in a very busy section of the store (between the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker), and you are constantly tripping over people when trying to make considered selections. I'm not sure if "service" is the proper place to air this complaint, but it needs to go somewhere.

The selection is good. They do a great job of getting the seasonal displayed and available, better than some stores in the area. Everything available in six packs is also available as a single. There is a wide selection of local and national and international micros, just don't expect any rare finds.

The value is reasonable. Singles are a little high, but not terrible. They do have mark downs often on slow movers, but watch at the cash register, some of the mark downs are not on the computer.

Hands down the most craft beer knowledgeable staff!
I tend to only visit this store in the early mornig. I believe they open at 8 A.M.
This is do to the popularity of the store based on their respective quality of goods they sell as well as personable and knowledgeable staff they employ. This has been a family based business out of the Toledo area for a long time.

The amount of craft beers is amazing! What they don't have they'll order for you. What they do have is average in price and fresh. They are conscious of dates. They do offer end-cap sales on craft beer that are super bargains.

They hold beer tastings! This is a great way to sample beers before buying.

They also have a wide selection of wine.

This is my favorite place to get beer, hands down. The selection and service are excellent. I usually go on Saturday mornings when the beer is all stocked up for the weekend. There is a section for both foreign and domestic beers as well as and endcap and section of seasonal beers depending on the time of year(summer ales, octoberfest, Christmas ales, etc.)
There is always someone around to greet you and ask if they can help(by now they know me by name). The beer "gurus" are very knowledgeable and will order something for you (if at all possible) if they don't have it in stock. What I especially like about the Anderson's is that they do a lot of business in the beer section so you can almost always count on a fresh offering.
If you've never been to the Anderson's they don't call it a "general" store for nothing. You can get everything from a wrench to a salad, a two-by-four to a Two-Hearted Ale. The beer section is located in the back, right corner, close to the meat counter where you can grab a couple of free samples to munch on while you browse the "beer library". Did I mention empty six-pack holders are available to mix and match just about any beers you want? This is a great way to sample a big variety without having to buy a sixer of something that you might end up not liking. Also, on most Saturdays they have beer tasting(you heard that right) of different styles and varieties, just call ahead for times and flavors.
Overall, if you are in the area(or maybe not even that close), the Anderson's would certainly be worth your while if you're looking for a good selection of craft, foreign, or specialty beer. And don't forget to pick up a weed-whacker and a Tony Packo's hot dog on your way out!

Visited en route to meet kryptic for a trade at Marino's.

Quality: The Anderson's is an all-purpose grocery store, so there is something for everyone. Cleanliness was paramount, as I made a pitstop there - no complaints. Service and selection were good or better.

Service: I asked for directions to the beer aisles in my 'I Hate Ohio State' shirt and was not mislead! I didn't ask for any help while shopping and was in and out rather quickly.

Selection: A broad selection of Midwest brews with a surprising amount of PA selections (victory, etc.). AleSmith and Jolly Pumpkin stand out. I went with some Two Brothers bombers (Red Eye and Bonfire). Imports, sixers, singles and cases abound. Well worth a visit, especially with its proximity to Joseph's.

I stopped in here rather quickly, as I was on my way to the Toledo Zoo with the family, and did'nt want to keep them waiting long. The beer was located in the back right corner area of the store, which seemed pretty big. It seemed like a grocery store, liquour store, hardware store, gardening store and wal-mart smashed into one. As far as the selection went, it was pretty decent, they did not have a few beers I was hoping to find, but I did leave with some pretty good beers. A six of Racer 5, a 22 of Big Bear Black Stout, a 22 of Mojo Risin, and a mix 6 of some weyerbacher and troegs. The pricing was reasonable and all this cost me about $40. There was a decent selection of belgians and seasonals. I was asked if I needed any help and had a few questions answered. The workers seemed friendly. Definitely worth the stop.

The Anderson's Toledo is my favorite Ohio stop. I make a run down down from Michigan several times a year. They carry all the Ohio and Michigan heavies: Bell's, Founders, Aradia, New Holland, Great Lakes, Hopping Frog, etc...

They have a fantastic single selection. Almost every beer they carry in a 6 pack is available as a single.

They also have a great import selection as well as many brews that are not distrubuted in Michigan. I usually make the run for an Alesmith pick up, but they also have Troegs, Werybacher, Bear Republic and several other bnrewers not availible in Michgan. For any BA's in the Metro Detroit area, Anderson's is well worth the run.

I stopped here on my back into Michigan to get some beers that don't distribute 5 miles down the road.

The store is huge, they seem to have everything. The beer was in the back right corner next to the meat. The selection was decent, a lot of Bells, Stone, Founders, Troegs, Left Hand, and others. If they carried a brand they seemed to have pretty much the entire line for that brand. They had a case of Hopslam left but I had to pass at around 60 bucks a case.

Also if they have it, you can break it and make a mix-and-match 6-pack. My avergae cost per bottle was 1.50-2.00$ for regular offerings. I got a specialty bottle of Stone for 5.

I grabbed some Troegs, Left Hand, and some Fullers. basically got what I can't get in Michigan. If the Nugget Nectar is as good as everyone says, I might make driving down here a yearly pilgrimage in the spring time.

This place is worth your time.

I usually go to the store in Sylvania but I've been to this one any time I'm hanging out with friends 10 minutes west and there very similar. The bottle selection I think is the best of any store in the area. Hundreds of bottles, anything you want and the nice thing is that if something's not in they will order it just for one person. I've gotten them to order things that the Sylvania store also didn't have so that when I went down to Toledo it was in for me. The only sad thing is the Toledo store doesn't have as many tasting pairings and events as the Sylvania store. People from Toledo have to take a little drive out to Sylvania usually for that. Good thing it's not very far. The service here is great. There's always an expert on hand and he's always hovering around the beer section so he's easy to find if I have any questions and he always knows what he's talking about. The prices are a little higher for some bottles but not much at all and it's still within the reasonable range. It's worth it for the fact that there's so much to choose from. Lots of bombers too. So here's the summary.
Huge selection.
Great service.
Good prices.
This and Marinos are the best places to buy beer for miles.

One of many stops of my road trip to Ohio. It is a big grocery store, sort of like a Whole Foods mixed with Targets. Anyhow,
incredible selections of 12 oz's and bombers that you can choose from, it is awesome because you don't need to buy the whole sixers. I grabbed a bunch of singles and a few bombers not available in California and, to the dismay of my wife.
The check-out gal spent a good few minutes studying and re-studying my ID, a little annoying but not a big nuisance.
Prices are very reasonable, a great store in the Toledo area that people should visit often.

Surprisingly good selection; this place is huge. The nice thing is that they hire beer and wine experts to help who seem to actually know what they're doing. This is a good place for the experimenting beginner as well as those who know what they want. If you yourself are an expert, the selection is firstly large enough to find what you want or something like it and secondly varied enough that you get a wide range of quality rather than just domestics or a very small variety of micros. For those who need help and decide to shop on their own, everything seems to be pretty easy to find and decently categorized. I've never had a problem finding someone to talk to, and they can answer everything about distribution, styles, etc. The selection is the best in Toledo by far; I have to go out next doorto Sylvania, and there's only one store in the region with more selection.

Anderson's General Store is similar to if you combined a large grocery store, a Sears, and a Home Depot, but then scaled it back a little bit so as not to be completely overwhelming. The beer selection which sits in the back right corner (aptly) by the meat counters was fantastic. For craft they carried a good helping of Founders, Great Lakes, Rogue, Bells, Victory, Troegs, Stone, and Alesmith. For imports they had a great selection of English beers, most of the available trappists from Belgium, and a decent amount of German beers.

As the place is a grocery store, there wasn't really anyone working the beer section so I don't know if they have employees specifically devoted to beer.

The prices seemed reasonable if not a bit cheaper than Joseph's down the street.

I ended up buying a few bottles of Alesmith's Speedway Stout.

Definitely worth stopping in.

The Anderson's on Talmadge Rd. in Toledo is a large sized supermarket that sells everything from fresh produce to lumber. It has a Tony Packo's in the front near the checkout as well as a pretty nice cafe and bakery. The wine selection is very good but the beer selection is great! They have local brews like Maumee Bay and Great Lakes. They have a large selection of micro brews from across the country including Goose Island, Dogfish head, Bell's, Flyingdog just to name a few. They also have a huge variety of international brews like Warsteiner, Pilsner Urqell, Leffe, Old Speckled Hen, St.Sebastiaan, Delirium Tremens...I could go on. ## UPDATED REVIEW FROM AUGUST 4, 2008 ##
* see old review below

Nothing really changed since the last visit in terms of supply and helpfulness of employees. To be maximally helpful to people that may visit this store, here is what I bought (Note: 3F is currently unavailable in Ohio):

6pk Founders Dirty Bastard
6pk Founders Red Rye
6pk Atwater Vanilla Java Porter
6pk Bear Republic Racer 5 IPA
22oz Stone Vertical Epic 07.07.07
22oz (2x) Stone Arrogant Bastard
22oz Two Brothers Hop Juice
22oz (2x) Two Brothers Oh Brother
12oz Cave Creek Chili Beer
22oz (3x) New Holland Night Tripper
750ml Alesmith Wee Heavy

Prices are comparable to Joseph's (less than one mile south of Andersons on Talmadge...same side of the road). I think I spent about another $150 give or take.

(--- --- --- OLD REVIEW --- --- ---)

I visit my extended family in Toledo and Fremont every summer and this time I decided I was adding a second mission: Finding yummy beers to take back. I had a list from BA that included Joseph's, Bailey's, and Anderson's. It turned out Bailey's was closed so we hit Joseph's first. It was a cool store with a nice selection. You can read that review elsewhere. Having not found all that I wanted there, we went to Anderson's the next afternoon. This store is huge and the beer was in the far back near the wine. There were 2-3 aisles of sixers, bombers, and I think I remember some singles but I am not sure.

They had nearly everything I wanted, including:
Hopping Frog
Three Floyds
Goose Island
Southampton
Southern Tier
Great Lakes
Stone
Unibroue (much cheaper here than in NC or GA)

I bought a ton more and eventually a really nice guy came by to offer assistance. He was not the most knowledgable but very friendly and he went to get me a couple large boxes to carry all of my beer.

It was a damn good trip and I will head back there again this summer.

Went down to Toledo for a few hours and stopped in. They had an impressive selection! Many bottles of domestic micro/craft, imports, and of course macros. Most of the micro/craft and imports can be found as singles. There were many beers that I am unable to find in Michigan.

They seemed to have every Bell's available (at least for the season), a few Founder's beers, most of the new AB "micro-esque" beers, and so many more! The selection consisted mainly of 12oz bottles and 22oz bottles. Here are some other breweries:
Lone Star
Lagunitas
Sierra Nevada
Ellicottville Brewing Co.
Otter Creek
Theakston
Barons (Aus)
Almaza (Lebanon)
Jever (Germany)
Toledo Brewing Co.
Saranac
Magic Hat
Great Lakes
Erie Brewing Co.
Brooklyn Brewery
Thirsty Dog

They also had many Colorado beers to choose from, but I will be out there soon, so I waited.
I will be visiting Anderson's again.

Was expecting a liquor store and was surprised to see more of a one-stop EVERYTHING shop. The beer/wine section is probably a fiftieth of the actual store.

The beer selection was really good, with offerings from Weyerbacher, Hopping Frog, Southern Tier, DFH specials, Clipper City, Thirsty Dog, Great Lakes, Alesmith, Bear Republic, Bell's... The selection of singles is great, and allows you to make mix n match sixxers.

Plenty of imports, as well. The service wasn't the best, but conversely, I didn't really need any.

I stopped in here w/ HellsBells24 yesterday 8/18 before heading to Maumee Bay Brewing company and the Mudhens game.

The main reason for coming here was to pick up some beers that are not available in MI. I was able to score some nice beers from Brooklyn (Local 1 for 7.49 per bottle), Ommegang Ommegeden (6.49 per bottle - this shits 12.99 everywhere in MI) and a few singles from Three Floyds, Southampton, Lagunitas, and Brooklyn.

They had some Behemouth from TF, but the $20 price tag was too steep for me as was the Barrel-aged Gonzo at $15. The single selection was more of US Micros instead of imports, which is the opposite of the Columbus store. They had a nice selection of Bells (Batch 8000) and other well known micros. Definitely worth checking out if heading through Toledo, or make a day trip with another stop at Maumee Bay Brewing (an awesome place - check out my review). Just a note, we stopped at Baileys Beverage Center and it was closed and for sale. If you are planning on stopping here, call first to see if they are open.

I stopped here on the way home from Detroit mainly to compare with the Columbus location. Overall the store layout is the same, kind of a hybrid of a Home Depot blended and a grocery store.

The beer selection is about the same as Columbus (stunning selection). The big difference is that there are plenty of 12oz singles for sale in Toledo, whereas in Columbus most of the beer is 4-packs and 6-packs only (except for some high-end Belgians).

I grabbed a couple of 12oz bottles of USA microbrews I've wanted to try but not risk a 6-pack on...

Good stop.

Update: 2/24/07: Was in the store on Saturday afternoon, and the selection seemed somewhat smaller than before. I also noted more out of code products, so pay attention. The place was absolutely slammed, so perhaps they just haven't had time to restock shelves from Friday night.

Really nice selection in this truly unique big box retailer. Beer occupies a full aisle (both sides with stacks of largely macrostuff down the center of the aisle). There is also a partial wall of coolers with a bit more than one door's worth dedicated to craft beers, though all of this was duplicated on the warm shelves as well.

There was a nice selection of both domestic and foreign craft beers, with the domestic having a distinct edge. There were a few out-of-code bottles noted, but these were largely in the "make your own six" sections and Great Lakes products, which have a notoriously short "best by" date. Producers have been noted ad nauseum, so I'm skipping that bit. I found a couple of beers here (Rodenbach being a particularly pleasant surprise) that were not at Bailey's, but the converse was also true.

Service was miraculous given the crowd in the wine and beer section of the store. I hit it about 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon. I was asked on two occassions if I needed any help, and was quickly given an empty wine box to help schlep all the 750 mls and bombers I was buying. Well done, but the help (I only saw one person working the whole beer and wine section) was definitely stretched to breaking.

Quality of beers sampled seems fine so far, but it's a notch below Bailey's Beverage which keeps much more of the stock cold. It is worth checking dates too, as a few out of code products were noted. Well worth the trip and fighting the crowds. Personally, I'll hit Bailey's first for the more laid back atmosphere, and the better storage, then the Anderson's to see if I missed anything. Prices between the stores were largely identical, or within a few cents one way or the other.
