i think the goal here is that this is supposed to be lambc, and while its real young, i think it hits the mark pretty well for an american brewery, its funky and layered, and it has a nice oak profile to it, and despite being new, its very good as a straight up wild ale. pale and hazy and surprisingly lively on the pour, the character of this is incredible, slight lemon to the sour side, lots of wood intermixed with the bretty element, fully wild, tangy but not real sour yet, and somewhat cereal forward, with a raw wheat element that grounds this nicely. it maybe lacks some of the aged hop character, that grassy tea-like thing, and it might be short on the vintage maturity blended sort of aspect, but it still tastes like old world lambic to me. not overly nuanced, and i think overpriced at this point, but quite good. this was one of the first american solera beers i have had, and now that i have had a few more right after this, i like it more, it seems to need that context of the rest of their portfolio, and in that light, this is really righteous, and i expect it to age super well. these guys are just getting started, and i expect this well become a base beer for a lot of cooler stuff, but its very solid in its own right. looking forward to seeing where it goes...

375 mL bottle. Lightly hazy golden body. Small white head. Smells of oak, sweet pale malt. A little doughy. A little citrusy. Tastes of oak and a nice lemon sourness up front. Softened by vanilla and barrel. Some green apple as the sourness builds. Sourness builds into the back end with some lingering sweetness. Medium body. Very nice.

On draught at the brewery's tasting room. Foeder Gold pours up with an ever so slight effervescence that barely manages a thin wispy white head that dissipates ever so quickly. The aromatics are rather quite tropical (mango, pineapple & star fruit) with a light but defined maltiness (pils, wheat?) balanced by just enough spicy bitterness to dry it out towards the tart, fruity/funky finish with a hint of oak goodness. Overall, it's surprisingly complex for such a young beer. However, it could certainly use more carbonation. I'm looking forward to this one being bottled & cellaring will do nothing but good things to this. Not unlike Perennial's Foeder Saison. Great things are coming from Chase & his American Solera brewery. Cheers!

375 ml bottle, served in a snifter glass. Pours a golden-lighter yellow body, one finger white head, short retention, not much in way of lacing. Smells of light musty funk, light biscuit, mild-moderate lemon acidity, touch of oak. Clean, not too complicated. Flavour is a bit more interesting, while following the nose. Light grainy sweetness, fair bit of lemon acidity but not overwhelmingly so, oak, musty cobweb funk. It's more restrained on the acidity than most American Wilds, which is nice, with just enough refreshing acidity to it. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly dry with a lingering sweet and sour sensation on the backend. A nice wild, I definitely appreciate that it tries to do more than just blast your taste buds with acid.

Look is a murky straw and pours with a minor amount of white head that settles into nothing quickly.

Aroma is tart lemon, oak, wheat and slight Brett.

Taste is mainly lemon, oak and some wheat and Brett to round it out. This beer smells more tart than it actually is.

Feel is smooth and slightly dry.

Overall a very nice sour. It is pretty complex and definately refreshing.
