Notes: Raspbarrel is a sour ale aged on whole raspberries. It's produced by filling two of our barrel fermenters with 200lbs of raspberries each. We then fill the barrel with sour golden ale. Once fermentation kicks in, a series of punch downs is done to get as much raspberry flavor into the beer as possible.

2015 bottle, drank Sept. 2021. Hate to say it but I just couldn’t drink it - was like battery acid for me. Was just too far over the top and while I got all the great raspberry flavor and smell, nice mouthfeel, and could appreciate the beer from those standpoints - it was just too acidic for me. Did lack carbonation and head so it wasn’t a particularly handsome beer, and made me question whether the aging had something to do with it given so many people have rated this so highly. Coolship Red or Weyerbacher Riserva - I love these among other more one off raspberry sours, but this one I just couldn’t do. Sorry.

Very sour and acidic but the raspberry flavors help balance with some sweetness.

Sample at Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen 2018, Blue Session. Dark pink color. Aroma is really fruity with raspberries and generic berry seeds. Taste is tart, fruity, acidic, astringent and also a bit mineral and salty.

375ml bottle, served in a stemmed glass. Pours a ruby red and purple body, dark and vinous-like, slight pink hue, one finger white head, plenty of retention and lacing. Smell is juicy raspberry, a bit of acetic acid and funk, bright and jammy. It's excellent. Flavour is similar; juicy raspberry, lemon, acetic acid, touch of leather, light oak and even more raspberry. Jammy, but not too sweet, with the moderate-level acetic acid cutting through. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, good carbonation, good hefty body, dry tart raspberry finish. Excellent raspberry wild. Absolutely excellent and would love to get some more of this.

Poured from a 12.7 oz bottle into a tulip glass. Bottled on 6/20/2016 and consumed on 12/28/2016.

Appearance is ruby red in color with minimal white head (little retention). Looks delicious.

Smell is bright fresh raspberries and minor earthiness with nice tartness coming through.

Taste is full of raspberries but not quite a juice bomb (great balance). Flavors are jammy up front with a nice bite on the finish (slightly acetic). Sweetness is moderate with little to no bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium light in body with a nice bite/carbonation on the finish (fairly delicate overall). However, the vinegar-like finish is slightly harsh.

Overall this is an excellent sour with a lot of fresh raspberry flavor and great balance. I liked this slightly more than Foeder Cerise. There is a slightly acetic finish that is the only thing keeping this beer from 4.75+.
