Pours a big frothy mocha colored creamy rich almost 2 finger head that fades at a med pace, lots of sticky lacing, just about pitch black beer.

Nose big chocolate, cocoa, dark chocolate, biscuity cookie dough and nougat, caramel, a little burnt lactose and plenty of roasted malts, not acrid or charred but nice roasted aroma, just a touch of smokiness, marshmallowy candy like but not sweet, a bit of earthy hop.

Taste starts with lots of creamy malts, lactose again with lactose sugar and burnt lactose milk, very creamy almost like chocolate milk, speaking on which, lots of chocolate as well, chocolate milk, a little cocoa, not much on dark chocolate though, into big roast again, a bitter almost acrid roast, some more biscuity cookie dough and nougat, marshmallowy candy and candy bar, but not really sweet, no minerality that I keep expecting to come, earthy spicy hops give a big bitterness as well as the roasted malts. Finish is drier but a little lactose stickiness, big bitter spicy chewy hops and bitter roast lingering.

MOuth is med to fuller bod, very creamy and milky, decent fluffy carb.

Overall started as one of the best porters I've ever had, the appearance and aroma were incredible, taste is still great, but too much milk, too much burnt roasty bitter flavors, and hops are maybe a tad too aggressive in combination, but still a great porter.

Poured into a teku pint. No freshness date.

A- Pours a fully opaque black color with two fingers worth of dark tan head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of surface foam. Resilient lacing leaves a broken ring behind.

S- Textbook porter aroma with lots of roast and notes of milk chocolate, nuts and coffee.

T- Definitely a more robust porter with plenty of roasty, borderline charry quality plus some chocolaty sweetness to balance. Extremely drinkable with its low ABV. Some hop bitterness also adds to the unfolding flavors.

M- Slightly creamy with medium carbonation and a fullish body.

O- I love it when I encounter a truly great, yet straightforward and non-imperialized porter. A great example of the style and one that I would gladly seek out again.

A medium amount of dark roast aromas dominate, dominated by a charcoal to burnt sugar note. Some citrus hops character underneath the malt.

An extremely dark beer, being almost opaque but it allows some light through showing a deep garnet hue and good clarity. The head is composed of long lasting, compact bubbles, expresso brown in color.

A firm hop bitterness dominates the flavor and is accentuated by some roast malt bitterness as well. There is a strong amount of dark roast malt flavors. A bitter beer on balance with only a hint of malt sweetness. Some faint notes of dark dried fruit. The finish is dry with a lingering roast and hops bitterness.

A medium bodied beer with a medium-strong level of carbonation. There is a light astringency from the dark malts as well.

A strongly bitter and dry Porter dominated by hops bitterness and a dry, dark malt profile.

16oz can, sample from the brewery.

A whole lot of tan suds sloshing around here on top of this very dark Porter. Smells of clean hop resin that has suggestions of orange zest, green tea, tobacco, pine, and wild flowers. Smoothness is nothing short of epic. Rich maltiness is on the dry side with but waves of roasted grain. Bitter enough from the hops and some from the roasted grain. Lots of lingering hop flavor, rich maltiness lingers along with the hop character. Clean and very drinkable. Love dark hoppy brews like this ... so damn pleasing.

There should be another rating characteristic beyond taste, AFTERTASTE. This porter does not have a taste rich as the gold standard Founders Porter, but the after taste is amazing. The heavy roasted malt combined with the fresh, appropriately rich hops makes this fine porter linger on the sides of the palate for a very long time. This is the first offering from The Alchemist that I enjoyed. As an "old guy" I who has never appreciated hoppy beers, I have to respect this porter.

Pours a solid black with a hint of dark brown. My smeller ain't so great at 70. Lots of tastes going on and my first taste was coffee and a strong coffee at that. Lingering aftertaste of coffee that is just OK for me. I got this fresh as hell and am going to wait a few weeks and let this sit and see what is what. Glad I got it but first impression is a high OK for me.

16 oz can poured into shaker pint.

A: Jet black body with very little head no light escaping the edges on this one.

S: deep roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, light licorice

T: Rich chocolate deep roasted malts a little coffee nutty lots of coffee. Then you get a light bit of hops as it finishes.

M: Thick nice full body with lower to medium carbonation.

O: Although this drinks more like a stout than a porter what is impressive here is the huge thick body and rich flavors at a 5% beer. I would definitely drink this again.

Quite the brew here. Hoppy and full of roasted malt and char. A billowing, dark khaki head with great retention and a slow fade. Tons of lacing. A super dark brown liquid that seems to act like a black hole, absorbing any light that hits the glass.

Nose has lots of coffee and molasses. Sweetness is enhanced by notes of burnt sugar and toffee. Dark roasted malt waft up and offer light char as well. Earthy, piney hops flood in and and blanket the whole thing.

Really loving the this flavor. Lots of char and earth. Malt is lightly sweet with lots of coffee and touch of bakers chocolate. Finish is dry and relatively short... except for the hop oil. It coats my mouth in dryness and earth. mild coffee lingers as well as light toffee sugariness.

Feel starts out as effervescent and then flows into a rich creaminess. Crisp and quenching makes this highly drinkable.

I'm loving this brew. Sessionable and delicious. Standard abv means three is not out of the question. With the way this tastes you'll want at least that many.
