This one pours a very dark black color, with a small dark foamy head, and not much lacing.

This smells like baker’s chocolate, black coffee, oak, heavy bourbon, dark fruit, and smoke.

Much like the base beer, this is an uncompromising stout - a bit set apart in an increasingly pastry world. It’s bitter and roasty, with a touch of sweet vanilla and lots of fudge. The oak adds a bit more spicy bitterness, and there’s some good bourbon folded in as well. There’s a touch of dried fruit as well.

This is medium bodied, and a bit creamy, with barely any booziness, which is great.

Luscious has always been a top beer for me from the Alchemist. I’m not sure if this is overall better than the original, but it’s still an elegant beer worth celebrating.

Poured from a bottle purchased at the brewery, 2018 model.
A - The deepest of colors, Chalkboard dark, Mocha cap resides through the experience. Carbonation rides the inside edge of the glass, feeding the cap.
S - Dark malts, cocoa, black cherry, cigar wrap tobacco.
T - All the nose and blackberry, bakers chocolate, the barrel adds a vanilla component.
M - Silky on the palate, steady with no real sweet or bitter thread. Perfectly balanced
O - A very good Stout, with extraordinary texture. The name is certainly apropos

Poured from the bottle into a snifter.
Pours deep deep brown almost black. Low caramel colored head.
Aromas of huge roasted malt and decent bourbon.
Flavor is delicious and bourbon here is definitely a supporting note and not as prominent as most BBA stouts.
Mouthfeel is silky and slightly thick. Nice.
Overall...delicious and great to see John releasing some a barrel aged beer.

Appearance is pitch black and poured with 2 plus fingers of spongy dark brown head.

Aroma is Roasty, bittersweet chocolate, coffee, bourbon/whiskey and a touch of vanilla.

Taste is heavy roasted (almost smoked) malts, bittersweet chocolate, coffee, barrel and some faint vanilla and maybe caramel too. The bottle says bourbon barrel aged but it comes across more like whiskey barrel (spicy) to me.

Feel is smooth, complex and creamy. Body is great as is carb. Very well done.

Overall and excellent ba stout that is more about nuance and balance then a punch in the mouth. I think this beer is very well done but I did really enjoy the base beer as well!

leather, charred wood, mollasses, raisin, olive, spicy whisky, hint of caramel. overall the whisky and oak character sort of overwhelm and it ends up being very spicy and hot whlie also having this huge oaky flavor and for some reason im tasting olive? dark fruits of raisin and fig, spicy complexity but sort of hot and disjointed. overall decent but i expected a lot more given how much i like the base beer.

A: Pours a pitch black color with 2 fingers of head that slowly fades down to a thin cap

S: Roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, and oak up front. Some vanilla and light coconut in there as well

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the roasted malt, caramel, and coffee and then picks up the dark chocolate, bourbon, oak, and vanilla. Lightly bitter from the roast. Finishes with lingering roast, coffee, and light bourbon

M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation

O: A great beer to celebrate their 15th anniversary. Builds nicely on the base beer by giving it some nice bourbon undertones. The barrel definitely compliments rather than takes over. Very well done

375 ml. bottle.
Bottled 26 July, 2018.
11.3% abv.
Moderate pour yields a one inch tan head over a very dark brown body with some sticky lacing. Nose of caramel, molasses, charred (slightly smokey) oak, and slight vanilla with even slighter bourbon. Taste of caramel, molasses, vanilla, chocolate, and slight bourbon. Mouthfeel is exquisite. The smokiness is a pleasant surprise, and overall a winner from John K. and his crew. Cheers!!!
