Located on 5th Avenue in Grandview it is easily accessible and parking although limited is never a problem. Service was top notch and helpful with the few questions I had. Still, the quality and selection were a little lacking. This place "is what it is"...wines first and beer second. I would definitely stop here in a pinch but with Gentiles being right around the corner (and Gentiles has fresh baked pizza and homebrewing supplies if needed) I probably wouldn't stop here on any consistent basis. It's worth checking out once just in case you missed something at one of the other places in Grandview.

MacLaren is on 5th Street in the Grandview area. Located not too far from Stewart's Wine Shop and Gentile's too. There is a small parking lot in front of the store.

Inside, the space is open and bright, with wine taking up the majority of the store, and everything is at eye level and lower so it is easy to see what is available. All of the beer is in coolers in the back of the store.

The beer selection was nothing amazing, and the person working that evening said they were particularly low due to some different circumstances. Still, they had a Stone, GLBC, Anchor and others, as well as a decent amount of imports.

The service was good. As mentioned above, the employee offered explanations on the current beer selection and promised there would be more soon. She even veered into "TMI" territory explaining why the owner hadn't been able to order enough beer lately. It's all good though, I found something new to try, and there is plenty of decent beer there to accommodate most beer lovers.

This place is worth a stop in the area, chances are there is something worth picking up.

Only a block or two from Gentile's on King this store is the lesser of the two. The focus is on wine, but there is a decent selection of good beer in the front-opening coolers to the rear of the store. Must have been some leakage in the coolers as each of the glass doors was fogged up with beads of water, but nonetheless one could make out a solid selection of micro brews. There is plenty of parking in front of the store and it is an easy in and out. The sole employee on duty was helpful and courteous, but did not appear overly into beer versus wine. My sense is that both Gentile's and MacLaren's focus on wine, but the folks at Gentile's (much better staffing, I might add) seem to "get it" with beer. I'm sure I'd always try to get my beer there first if both were open.

This store's main focus is wine, but in the back, they have all cold, a medium selection of micro beers. Some singles, but not to many, mostly six packs. Seem to take some stabs at carryout items, but for the most part, it is strictly a wine shop. They had a good overall, if small assortment and it makes a good companion in this area to Gentile's on King Ave. Helpful for nights people in the Grandview/Upper Arlington area do not wish to make the drive to Kenny Road Market.
