Wow, this is an old can I found on a shelf tucked away; dint know was there. Nevertheless, decent caramel hop nose. Sticky malt hop flavor with a boat load of bitter to stand up to the sticky malt. Thick fluffy head slowly settles. Bitter finish, but nice. Well done, guys, well done.

Picked up a four-pack of 16 oz cans at the Trig's Cellar 70 in Wausau. The "enjoy by" date suggests this one is about two weeks past its prime. Poured at cellar temperature into my Red Eye conical pint glass.
L: Pours a hazy orange blossom honey amber with about three fingers of off-white head that dissipates to a healthy film and ring after a minute or two. Substantial lacing on the glass and moderate visible carbonation.
S: Citrus and tropical fruit hop notes are most prominent--grapefruit, orange, and mango come across clearly. There's a bit of earthiness and herbal quality, as well. Caramel and bread-like malts round out the bouquet.
T: Caramel malts--more robust than I was expecting--are there at the front, along with a citrus hop presence that registers as blood orange and ruby red grapefruit. The hops aren't exactly assertive--they're pretty well balanced out with the malts at the start. The middle sees an increase in the hop bitterness, tasting much more of citrus rind here. There's a bit of an earthy/herbal thing happening, as well. From the end of the middle through the back end, there's some clear alcohol coming through. The close is decidedly bitter--of the citrus rind variety--but the malts are still making their presence felt.
F: Medium-bodied, this one has some creaminess to it in the middle. Though not syrupy, it has a good deal of stick, as that bitter aftertaste hangs around for quite some time. Solid level of carbonation on this one.
O: I always hate to review beers that are past their prime, and I will try to find a fresher batch of this in the future. I will echo what others have said in stating how well-balanced this beer is. That being said, I wish the hops popped a bit more, the alcohol was better masked, and the close wasn't quite so bitter.
