Notes: Oatmeal Stout in bottles offers notes of hazelnut, caramel and chocolate. Sharp and sweet with a more robust finish, this uniquely different extension of our beloved brew is now available. Historically only offered on nitro draught, this dark, balanced beer will now be served in bottles offering a wonderfully different experience than on nitro draught. Still full and sweet, as the recipe has not changed, the bottled stout has a brightness to the flavor and a crispness to the finish.

12oz bottle. Label has enjoy by date of '08/17/21'.
Black colored body, with a significant back lit mahogany colored edge. Persistent one finger tan, tight bubble head. Back side of the glass has a sheet of lacing, while the drinking side has scattered spots.
Milky aroma of caramel and chocolate. Smooth dark roasted malts.
Taste is more roasty than suggested by the smell. Caramel and chocolate. After taste is a long slide into a expression of both mild bitterness and a touch of sweetness.
Creamy, fuller mouth feel. Good carbonation.
This is a very smooth drinking beer, and has a good balance of flavors and smells.

Similar to Guiness in appearance but not quite as dark. Delicious foamy head that lasts. Very smooth. Just the right amount of sweetness from the milk sugars, hints of chocolate. Summit's best offering in my opinion. Sadly its only available on tap.

From old, undated notes; had this on nitro draft.

Black liquid; ruby edge.

Khaki nitro head; minimal lace.

Raw oats & barley in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel; very creamy.

Smooth oat flavor; not overly tasty but far from offensive.

On tap @ Crooked Ale Pint House in Rochester, MN.

The head has lasted for about five minutes now. Dark, delicious and a great take on the oatmeal stout. Hard to find on tap, since Summit requires a potential tavern to have nitro available, but worth it if you can find it!

Default to a 4.5 for look - a properly brewed and poured nitro stout is a thing of beauty, and this is no exception. Deep-brown-almost-black with a cascade of khaki bubbles rising up to meet a tightly packed, bottle foamy head. Ahhhh...the simple things in life.

Aroma and taste is in harmony - roasted malt, char, bitter chocolate, light coffee and bitter hops.

Appropriately sweet, bitter and smoky. Great balance serves up in a low ABV and ultra-smooth chassis. Easy drinker that demands sipping.

Summit Oatmeal Stout Nitro, 4.7% ABV. Pours dark brown and medium viscosity, with a nice one finger nitro head. Nose is roasted malt, taste follows, with a bit of coffee and chocolate, though not bitter. Not a lot of flavor here, more like a porter. Decent mouthfeel, overall very good.

a no frills stout here from a more or less no frills brewery, good beer is just good beer here, and this is wonderful from the nitro tap at their brewery. dark and creamy looking with the nitro head setting up thick and brown and lasting pretty much the whole drink, thick rings cling to the glass as i sip it down. lots of roasted grain here, but seemingly without the bitterness that usually comes with it, dry cocoa notes too, dark chocolate, a little raison and a little burnt bread. its straight forward and real well done. lots of the chocolate malt profile above the roasted barley, good balance, and not way too much body, its almost thin in comparison to some others. the low abv and the creamy dryness make it super drinkable, almost feels healthy to me. not way different than a whole host of other oatmeal stouts out there, its just really well done. i felt that way about a lot of the beers they make here, quality ahead of innovation, and i am totally cool with that. we had a great time in here, and i will definitely be drinking another one of these fine stouts next time i go back. i have not seen this on tap around town at all, is it just at the brewery?

Nitro draught pour at MSP in a shaker pint. Pours chocolate brown with two fingers of high density khaki head. Nose is mostly oatmeal with a bit of roasted malt. Taste is better balanced between the roasted malts and oatmeal. Finish had a subtle bitterness to it, that didn't linger. Mouthfeel was creamy as expected in nitro. Damn solid oatmeal stout.

On nitro draft at Capone's in Norristown, PA. Extremely smooth as expected for a nitro oatmeal stout. The flavor was mild on the palate, with notes of chocolate and roasted malt. Not a rich flavored beer but smooth and enjoyable.

I didn't have a chance to take extensive notes when I had it. It had the expected dark appearance, certainly a heavy dark kilned barley and some caramel notes. It has some woody and earthy note. It was pleasing and clean to drink, but the beer seemed a bit thin and didn't have the presence of other oatmeal stouts.

have had this numerous times around town, and sometimes I've been very underwhelmed...it has seemed fairly thin, a decent melding of barley, carmel, and coffee, but only decent. Other times, this has seemed like a real revelation, being super creamy and rich, with a substantial body, full flavors of roasted barley, a little faint smoke, a little dark bitter chocolate, and a little hoppy bitterness at the end. I'm not sure if it is me, the bar/restaurant, or the beer that varies.... I'm averaging here. Definitely worth a shot.

Deep black color, opaque in the relatively dim lighting of the restaurant. Light carbonation. 3/4 inch off-white to tan creamy thick head. Attractive lacing clings as you drink The verbal description does not do it justice... this is a gorgeous looking beer. Malty sweet aroma with hints of roastiness. Moderately thick mouth feel, very smooth and creamy. A bit of carbonation apparent to the tongue. Matly, smokey, hints of cocoa flavor. Slight bittering in the middle. Clean, crisp, slightly bitter finish. Absolutely wonderful.

I tried this on tap yesterday served on Nitro pour in a pint.

the color is dark-black opaque with thick pale beige hea with whipped looking head and lace clings in rings. The smell is semi-sweet with a light coffee-like roast in the nose. The feel is creamy and smooth as a nitro stout with roasted texture and dry in the finish.

The taste is very good the oatmeal adds a light sweet edge along with nice roasted malt character but not quite burnt or bitter with a smoothness of nitro adding a creamy quality. The flavor is gentle nothing is out of place -traditional and tasty. Overall I would recommend this to fans of dry stouts or other nitrogen dispensed stouts in general it is easy to enjoy with low abv for nice session style stout.

On tap at my local pub. Bartender had quite the time, pouring a 3/4 glass of head before done, which might explain why I'm not crazy about this stout. Maybe I'm spoiled from some of the better imperial stouts out there, because the Summit Oatmeal just doesn't quite measure up. Very smooth and drinkable, just nothing special in the taste department.

It was my first summit that I remember having during the first summer of my 21st birthday. I had seen billboards talking about if they knew how much beer it took to cook 100 brats. First, Minnesota, you have no idea, (Wisconsin), and second when I had the sip of the beer, although it looked great, the oatmeal stout was bland. It had, no taste, or aroma.

Look: black with a nice two finger cap of dense tan head
Smell: roasty, slightly chalky
Taste: Dark roasted malt notes dominate with mild herbal hops. Very mild flavor profile like many nitro stouts.
Feel: Super smooth medium body

Overall: Definitely one of the best Summit beers I have tried, their nitro oatmeal delivers pretty much everything that is expected of the style. Gentle roasty flavors dominate with the anticipated smoothness delivered by the nitro.

Have had this from the nitro tap at the brewery and at the Pig & Fiddle. L: Pours bright black under a 1” tan foam collar with a very fine bead. S: Light coffee with chocolate notes. T: Slightly sweet, very rich coffee and chocolate flavors, no harsh roast or burnt flavors. F: Very smooth and creamy, medium full body, medium carbonation, very soft. O: I forget to order this too often. When I do order it, I drink it all night.

Great beer. Very smooth and drinkable, extremely pleasant. Heavy notes of oatmeal and malts, extremely pleasant in appearance. Head clings to the glass, making for a very appealing flavor and look. Notes of malts and oatmeal are outstanding. One of my top beers personally.

Served in a nonic pint glass

The beer is a deep opaque brownish-black with a tan head that dissipates into some spotty lacing down the glass.

Great aroma from this beer: Nutty malt, chocolate, toffee, a light hop odor as well.

This is a great tasting stout loaded with flavor. A burst of milk chocolate, then nuttiness, oatmeal, a little vanilla and a lingering bite of bitter dark chocolate. Surprisingly layered.

The mouthfeel is spot on: smooth and creamy with little carbonation. Nearly perfect.

Overall, this draft-only beer from Summit is a great example of the style and I'm pleased I got to try it.

On-tap (nitro) at Stub & Herb's on March 25. Summit's common draft-only option, and one I've been meaning to try for years.

The pour is beautiful. Dark brown, nearly black, with just a shade of light coming through the edges. Two fingers of dense pillowy head. Outstanding retention, lacing that could define the word.

Smell is deep roasted, woody, a touch charred, with a hint of fluffy-sweet from the oats. Would be nice, if it were a bit more robust.

Taste is quite good. Clean and rich, starting out lightly charred, then drifting to a smooth sweetness, then fading back into a soft bitterness. Layers of flavors, all good. Yum.

Feel is outstanding. I've had beers on nitro that felt flat and dull, but this has enough prickle, and enough smoothness, that I'm fully satisfied. Almost thin, but the oaty fullness saves it from any such problems.

A top-notch low-ABV oatmeal stout. Smooth, flavorful, rich. I'll be drinking more of this.

This is hands down the best oatmeal stout I've had. When its poured it looks just like Guiness with its thick black body and cascading head. The taste is so smooth with chocolate overtones it is delectable. My only fault with this beer is that it is draft only. Summit please start canning or bottling this!
