Bottle at Lucky’s. Hazy dark, amber, flat. Aroma is malt and grapes. Taste brings a little sweetness, alcohol becomes apparent but not overpowering. Malty, true to the English style. Super that slowly builds to a crescendo.

Pours a dark honey amber with plenty of floating particulates (which only slightly takes away from the beauty of this beer). Thick ivory head which has good staying power and leaves delicate lacing. Aroma is caramel and rich malt. Flavor is sweet caramel, vanilla and butterscotch. Feel is medium bodied. Overall a nice English Barlelwine that although over two years past its best by date, is a pleasant sipper. High abv well hidden.

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Enjoy by date stamped on bottle is '05/13/17'.
Reddish amber body. Lots of floating particles. Slightly off white head which persists. Scattered lacing.
Sweet caramel/toffee smell, almost like butterscotch. Dark fruit as background.
Sweet, boozy taste, lots of swirling dark fruit and toffee. Minimal hops or bitterness.
Sticky, coating mouth feel.
Alcohol is present, but not intrusive. Quite sweet. Heaviness and sweetness level leads to sipping rather than quaffing. A good beer for after dinner, before the fire place.

This was dense with floating particulate, not pretty to look at. This was just okay overall. A bit too much straight up sugar to go along with toffee and faint dark fruits.

Cloudy amber with a LOT of sediment floating around. Fairly thin head. The nose isn't very strong, but what I get has aromas of dark fruit.

The flavor is where this shines. It tastes a bit hop-forward, but not in a mouth puckering way. It's actually kind of hop-sweet. Flavor reminds me a bit of Dogfish Head's 120 Minute IPA, which I like quite a lot. There IS some alcohol burn, but heck, there's a lot of alcohol in it. It doesn't ruin the experience for me.

I will pick up one of these again!

L: pours hazy dark amber to light brown. Bubbles leisurely rise to the top to reinforce a 1/2" cream to beige foam collar with fair persistence

S: rich caramel malt aroma supported by dried fruit, fig and alcohol

T: flavor is alcoholic and malty with caramel, dark dried fruit, fig, and and a little sweet

F: warming and even hot in places. very creamy and full bodied to chewy with medium carbonation

O: Drink this big boozy beer instead of a mixed whiskey drink

Poured out a murky, burgundy color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of sweet caramel, toffee and boozy alcohol. Tasted sweet and malty with an alcohol warmth.

Appearance: In the glass, the beer gleams a brilliant copper, slightly hazy with a modest head; spotty lacing action

Smell: Caramel dipped apple, stone fruit and earthy hop tones

Taste: Caramel forward with apple and pear flavors building; through the middle, there is a cinnamon and clove aspect, along with some earthy hops that build, into the finish; the alcohol is also discernable in the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet

Overall: I really enjoy good English barleywines but, while this is passable, it doesn't come close to the best examples of the style
