This traditional German style earned the nickname “liquid bread” because it was brewed by Paulaner monks in Bavaria to help them get through Lenten fasting. Moravian 37 malts and Czech Saaz hops give it a toasted sweetness with a little spice in the finish. Available in 12-oz. cans and bottles in the Spring.

Pours a dark, burnt orange color slightly hazy. A thin, off-white, creamy head. Not much carbonation.
Smells of nice carmel malt and spuce. Slight hop and pepper.
Wonderful combination of sweet and toasted carmel malt with German hop. Plenty of both. Plenty of Breadiness. Great simple tase that allows for only taste of the exact style. The Germanhop finish reminds you of what this is supposed to be. Wonderful, underrated maibock-

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into a vintage hollow-stemmed goblet. Clear light copper-amber color, with a tentative pour yielding two fingers of fluffy white head that left some spotty lacing. Pleasant aromas and flavors of bready malt, with notes of light toffee and hints of tart apple and grassy and herbal hops. Medium bodied, with some nice, spicy hop bitterness and a little sticky sweetness on the finish. I'm no expert, but this seems to be right on point for the style. I do know that it is delicious and an excellent food beer. Definitely worth seeking out.

12 oz can that I got from the earliest batch of 2019 (bought in the middle of March). Poured into a pilsner glass.

L - Pours a nice amber color. 1.5 fingers of thick off-white head that lingered well into the glass. Nice lacing.

S - Decent amount of floral hops. No strong grain/malt smell.

T - Floral, spicy hop forward with a faint malty sweetness at finish. Good balance of bitterness-to-maltiness. No alcohol flavors, despite being on the stonger side.

F - Medium bodied. Nicely carbonated. Finishes clean and dry. Very refreshing.

O - If you can find it, pick up a case. In my opinion, it might be a touch more hop forward than I would like in an ideal maibock, but it's definitely not uncharacteristically hoppy. It's a solid beer!

12oz bottle. I can't read the stamped dating on the label, but this is from the 2019 release batch.
Clear deep gold/pale amber colored body. Bottle pour resulted in a thin off white cap, which recedes but sticks around as a small island and bubble fed ring. Almost all of the lacing generated by each sip slides back down into the body.
Aroma is subtle but gives off a smell of bready malt and some malt sweetness.
Taste is lightly toasted malts, some dry yeast, and quite a bit of spicy hops at the end. Slightly sweet then bitter.
Medium mouth feel and refreshing. Good carbonation.
This beer provides the experience of drinking "food". Full of bready malts and then the spicy kick at the end.

Maibock pours a copper color, lots of bubbles, with a long lasting and lacing bubbly head. Aroma is pretty neutral, hints of smokey malts. Flavor is crisp, strong, warm malty flavors, and a buttery finish. Good body and feel. Overall, a very very good maibock.

Pours pale yellow with no real head and minimal lacing. Smell is yeast and more yeast. Taste is yeastiness followed by a more mild breadiness. Taste is crisp but refreshing and not too dry. Could really dig this as an everyday beer in the early spring, or if I were drinking several in a row outside. Look forward to drinking again someday, outside with good company.

First had this when I was out in Milwaukee (2001-2005). Pours a dull golden with 2/3" white head, impressive retention. Aroma was grain. There was a smattering of hops to it.

Taste was similar to Rogue's dead guy. A mild hopping alongside a doughy malt biscuit underneath it. Carbonation is above average. A sourdough like lemon bread kind of feeling. More bitter than I thought about this style, but these are consistently more bitter than others. The ibu levels are probably between 30-40. I dunno, seems pretty much normal aside from the high carbonation. Big whoop.
