Scored a six pack of this when I was living in Wisconsin. Pours a dark golden color, almost a full inch of white head on the top of it. Aroma was midwestern grain, and only a smattering of what may be noble hops.

Taste, kinda malty, not overly hoppy, not exactly that earthy presence of English ipas, the malt finish is more American and dry. A little bit of soapy bitterness to it. 40ibu? Its a decent ipa, but don't fall over yourself to get it was what I used to say about this beer.

From tasting notes. A brilliant copper amber pour produces a finely bubbled 1” clingy white foam collar. Malt and hops on the nose and the palate are well balanced. Medium body and carbonation. I am drinking this at a Thai restaurant and the beer cuts the Thai sauce and lifts the spicy sauce right off your palate. It is a perfect match.

12 oz. bottle, with best by date of 03/13/2014 printed on the bottleneck. Got the twelve pack on sale for something like $7.99 being that this beer is now past it's prime. Listed as retired on BeerAdvocate now, so it is now or never it seems.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - It pours a murky sienna orange colored body with some hues of red in there. One finger of quickly receding beige froth for a head. Leaves behind some okay scattered lacing.

S - The smell is much more earthy, leafy, twiggy, and caramel forward than hop forward at this point, but it is still a pleasant aroma. Notes of brown bread, toast, & nuts.

T - The taste is the same - any distinct hop profile that was here is no longer present. Instead, waves of creamy caramel / toffee have taken over in full effect.

M - The feel is smooth and creamy. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Caramel malt, and twiggy / herbal earthiness leftover on the palate.

Overall, maybe I'm one of the few, but I don't mind a good caramel / malty IPA every so often. In all, I would say this was a fine IPA, that has held up well even five months past it's best by date. Not sure why this was discontinued, but I guess drink em if you've got em.

Summit India Pale Ale ---4/5.
