Poured from a howler from Collective here in Cowtown.

Appearance - Pours a hazy straw with three fingers of frothy white head.

Smell - banana, clove, bubblegum aromas, white pepper, earthy, floral and grassy hops, wheaty and bready malts, and earthy yeast.

Taste - banana, clove, bubblegum upfront. The white pepper, earthy, floral and grassy hops come through next. The wheaty and bready malts alongside the earthy yeast round out the brew.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth and creamy with the elements of the brew lingering.

Overall - A well executed hefe from this brewery. I'm not sure why I haven't sampled this yet but finally got around to it and best of all, on tap. This one is pretty easy drinking and flavourful with the banana, clove, and bubblegum being the shining stars of this brew. Well done Brauerei Fahr!

As a German Albertan, I don't know why I was so hesitant to give Fahr a try. Wonderfully crisp & refreshing. Just the right blend of spice and fruitiness; pepper, cloves, banana, lemon, maybe a touch of apple. Slightly grainy and subtle floral/citrus hops. Carbonation is accurately dialled in to highlight the spicier notes without overshadowing the sweet, fruity, and floral counterparts. Everything comes together in a lovely balance and I'm kicking myself for not trying this sooner. A fantastic Hefeweizen.

Wow. Why did I ever have trepidation about this? I was hesitant to get into this stuff at first, until it was strongly recommended to me several times over. The more I think about it, the sillier that seems. There's a lot to like about this beer. I love the logo (the German flag colours inside the shape of good ol' Alberta). I love the design on the can. I like the name. I love the branding and the ethos around it. And best of all, it delivers. This evening I've just tried two other Bavarian Weissbier heavyweight classics, Schneider Tap 7 Original and Ayinger Bräuweisse. And you know what? This can hang with them. No kidding. The only place this loses some points is the appearance. The colour is much clearer and less hazy than a typical weissbier, and the head is hardly more than a finger, even with a fairly aggressive pour, and dissipates quickly, leaving very little lacing. On the nose is one of the biggest whiffs of banana I've ever experienced from a weissbier, along with very strong Juicy Fruit gum. The taste starts with big banana, some citrus hops in the middle, and a subtle malt that reminds me of sourdough bread, along with that juicy fruit gum. The mouthfeel is thin-middleweight, the weissbier sweetness perfectly balanced by the drying hops. It's refreshing, complex, wonderfully drinkable, and delicious. Overall, a solid introduction to the weissbier style, and from right here in Alberta. Can't wait to try the rest of Fahr's lineup. If they're anything like this, this brewery will become my Stammbrauerei.

Simply a stellar rendition from right here in Alberta. By Fahr their top brew. Well their others are more than Fahrly good too. Great old world quality utilize some of the best new world grains. The best of both perhaps.

Very authentic tasting Hefeweizen, can compete with any major German brand doing that style.
Nice color, texture, love the taste - perfect. Regrets? Missing the glass bottle - canned white beer just doesn't feel right.
Other than that - once its in a glass... perfect.

500ml bottle poured into Sam Adams pint glass.

Pours a hazy golden yellow with half a finger of puffy white head that leaves cliffside cave formation lace as it recedes.

Smells of unsalted crackers, black pepper, clove, banana, soft lemon zest and mild grassy, floral hops.

Tastes of more crackery wheat, peppery cloves, mild banana and apple chips, faint lemon juice and more flowery hops.

Feels light and fizzy. Light bodied with zippy carbonation. Finishes off-dry.

Verdict: Recommended. Perfect for the combination of grassfire smoke and insane heat we've been experiencing in Edmonton over the last few days.

16oz pint at Beer Revolution - about time that I got around to trying this one - I always seem to just miss it.

This beer appears a hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with one skinny finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat creamy bone-white head, which leaves a few instances of cannonball splash aftermath lace around the glass as things quickly move on.

It smells of bready and doughy wheat malt, wet banana chips, some clove and white pepper spice, a further bit of crackery graininess, and some tame earthy, weedy, and floral hops. The taste is semi-sweet caramel malt, some lesser cereal wheatiness, muddled earthy spice, a touch of banana/apple/pear fruitiness, and more laid-back leafy, floral, and grassy hop bitterness.

The carbonation is quite active in its frolicking frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and quite smooth, with a decent creaminess pretty much there from the get-go. It finishes well off-dry, the robust malt contending with a minor lingering spiciness.

Overall, this is one tasty and engaging version of the style, nice and fruity and spicy. Better suited to a warm Spring day on the patio, than a slushy February warm spell, but I'm glad that I got to have it all the same.
