I have gone to the Hofbrauhaus in Newport for a few years. This place has an ok family type atmosphere. You will find families with small children in the afternoon. On the weekends they may have live music. The beer garden is a comfortable place to drink a few beers.
The service is spotty at times. I have had experiences when the place was packed and gotten excellent speedy service. I have had occasions where I couldnt get service in an empty house. YMMV.
The normally offered beers are fairly average. The monthly offerings are a step above average. I prefer the Hefe for regular beers. If coming for the monthly special go early in the month. They tend to run out early in the month.
The food is ok. It is all pretty much items that go well with beer. This is a pretty good place to grab a few beers and take your family. A pretty standard german restaraunt experience.

A favorite stop of mine. Their original lager (helles) is very well done, and for some reason is better than the examples at the Cleveland and Columbus locations. The rest of the house brewed beers are well done as well. The German food here is well executed.

Reasonably authentic German beer house, right by the touristy levee area in Newport. Large, open dining area with community tables. Some bar rail seating, which is where we sat.
The German style beers were nicely done, and served in full or 1/2 liter mugs. In my opinion they were not fantastic, but certainly well worth drinking. They have a can filling station for to go consumption, but they seemed a bit pricey.
The food menu was fairly large, we just split a appetizer sampler plate which was huge , consisting of sauerkraut balls, potato pancakes, fried pickles etc. It was more than enough for two at a reasonable price.
Would return.

excellent place for a good night of German food and good beer. They established a new beer, the Hofbrau Hallodri, which was excellent!
I would definitely return, as the food, service, and atmosphere were absolutely awesome!
Not necessarily the place to go if you're on a tight budget, but the price for the portion size is awesome! We almost always bring home leftovers!

But, if you know all that going in, you can have a fun time, drinking some well made German beer. I don't know how close they get to delivering the German experience they claim, but it's an okay place to spend an evening.
