Poured from a .5L bottle to a 1/2L glass. LOL The brew is a light copper with good carbonation. The head is 2 fingers, white and leaves some lace.

The smell is strong and hopy with a bit of alcohol washing over a dark multi-grain bread.

The taste follows good strong brew full of life and flavor. Grains, raisins, and fruit rinds, quite hearty.

The mouthfeel is good bigger and better then medium body. good carbonation.

The drinkability is very good I like this Mai bock & Martzen Had a baby. Prosit. MK

Clear golden color with good head retention. Sweet bready malts in the smell. Taste is also on the sweeter side for a lager. Hops are present only a bit in the aftertaste. Not bad for a style I don’t really enjoy that much.

Nice coppery brown with a creamy white head, great retention and beautiful lacing. The smell is earthy with honey notes and caramels. A sweet caramel and honey with earthy tones of hops. A touch of spice, nutmeg and bready pumpernickle notes. Slightly watery on the mouthfeel, very easy to drink. A great example of the style.

Poured from 12oz bottle into dimpled mug. Clear, straw-coloured to golden beer with a thin, creamy but totally vanishing head. Malty aroma is sweet, fruity and slightly alcoholic. Some strawberreies and, unfortunately, vegetables in the finish wiht fine, grassy hoppiness. Malty taste is sweet, slightly fruity and honeyish and a bit alcoholic. Quite straightforward. Medium bodied palate with alcoholic warmth. Still quite fresh. Soft carbonation.

I have not been that impressed with other Hofbrau's I've had in the past. However, as I'm inclined to try new things out, gave the brewery another shot with their marzen.

A; poured into on on mug glass to show an opaque ruby red. There was almost no head except the fizz that was created with the initial pour. Reminded me of on on soda when the carbonation burns itself away very quickly. At best a tiny ring of a cap around the glass. I'm pretty sure I got any old bottle here.

A; The nose was far off and barely distinguishable sweet malt and distant biscuit.

T; The taste is a small step above the nose. A crisp light delivery of a carbonated hop surrounded by sweet malts. Nothing really stands out in the flavors.

M; Very thin mouthfeel, medium carbonation.

D: A good session beer with on on light body and creamy and sweet delivery. Something I would go for again to verify if the bottle was the culprit or if Hofbrau does not release this in large quantities because of it's mediocrity.

500 ml bottle from Munich

Pours clear pale golden with small, but dense head, very small and patchy downsliding lacing. Small is malty, some bits of lemon as well, it is quite weak.

Taste is rather bittery and crisp hops at the very first moment, then turns into sweetish malt. Nice bittery aftertaste. Mouthfeel is very thin and I guess a bit too much of carbonation.

Overall, I expected much more from Hofbräu. The beer is not bad and very easily drinkable, but not much above average Märzen.

50cl bottle poured into seidel

BBE 2 August 2011

A- Golden body with excellent clarity, the 3 finger tight creamy white head reduces quickly to a crown, lacing is minimal.

S- Intially a little doughy bread, hint of vanilla, little hop note creeping in. All very subtle

T- Initially hop bitterness is the first thing that comes through, toasty malts follow to give some balance resulting in a semi dry finish.

M- Medium/high carbonation, medium body

D- More hop profile than expected from a Munich beer. Doesnt have the malt domination of a Marzen/Festbier hence the lower rating. However, it has good balance with the malt coming through toward the end on the tongue, its crisp, enjoyable and refreshing.
