11.2 oz bottle.

Poured into a traditional mug. Totally clear, straw golden color. Very active carbonation that supports a fine-white foam cover. Slow dissipation.

Freshly baked white bread malty aroma, cream o corn, sour herbs in the yeast and a hint of wild honey. Classic.

A mildly sweet, honey malt taste, turning earthy-bitter and then sour and sweet again. The malt is light feeling but very flavorful with sweet corn, sour bread and dry, earthy old world hops. Some green veggies and herbal combo pops out later on.

This one comes across as an old-school classic. Not as hefty , with a lighter malt effect but much more true to the original style. Complexity is low to medium but a nice reminder of how far we have come.

Poured from a 330 mL bottle into a pint glass.
L- Clear, pale yellow with very little head.
S- Light biscuity smell, not a ton going on here.
T- Lighter biscuit malts, some noble hop bitterness, slight lingering sweetness.
F- Medium carbonation, medium body.
O- Pretty good, refreshing, easy to put a few of these back for sure.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a medium golden amber with a nice three finger white head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of grainy biscuit malt, pear and mild caramel. Flavor is semi-sweet bready and biscuit malt with some husky grain, mild caramel, wheat. Finishes with grainy malt and grassy noble hops. Medium bodied with sharp carbonation. This is pretty much what I expect an Okboberfest to taste like, quite authentic and to style. Maybe a little more raw grain flavors than ideal, but good balance and very drinkable. It's like Oktoberfest in August! And to twist the knife of the dozens of Oktoberfests showing up right now, my local shop just got the first of the winter holiday seasonals. It's 85 degrees out still.

Brewed in the Festbier style, so not rated as a Marzen style Oktoberfest.

I have had the fortune of trying this last year-- in its old green bottle-- and again this year, in Hofbraeu's newly redesigned brown bottles and packaging. While I still liked the older incarnation, it REALLY shines now that Hofbraeu finally decided to get with the times as far as their packaging. Full-bodied beyond what its pale golden hue would suggest, with a strong malty flavor accented by a restrained noble hop bitterness. I'd quite like to know what the three different Hallertauer varieties alluded to on the label are, heh. Overall, a great beer, and an affordable, easy-to-find look into the modern golden festbier style that's popular in Munich, and a nice change of pace from the amber Maerzens most American breweries favour.
