What I like about this Oktoberfest is that for a relatively high ABV %, it's a very easy to drink beer. It pours an unimpressive, bubbly straw color with a slight foamy head. The smell is grainy, slightly fruity, a subtle aroma of malt with a good amount of carbonation, but it's not overwhelming. The taste is grainy/malty -- a slight kick to it, but again, just a very easy to drink beer. All in all, a very good session beer for the late summer/early fall months.

Pours out a clear golden body with a white head that leaves some lacing and sticks around fairly well.

Smells of pilsner malt, earth, grass, and herb.

Grainy bready sweet malt taste. Slight bitterness with the hop flavor being a little muted.

Crisp and refreshing lower bodied beer.

Seems like it has taken on a touch of skunk. It's a decent enough beer but I won't be revisiting it with better options in the style like Paulaner and Weihenstephaner.

Poured from a 33 cl bottle into a standard pint.

A: Deep golden hue. Pours a 1 finger, foamy, white head. Slight rising effervescence. Settles quickly, but not completely. Slight lacing.

S: Sourdough and yeast.

T: Yeast is prominent. Some lemon and orange citrus. A little clove and coriander. Buttery.

M: Light and crisp. Pungent throughout. Bitter finish.

D: Session.

Atmosphere is okay. Fair head, and some slight lacing; and a golden hue not really characteristic. Nose is very yeasty, not really characteristic of the style, either. Yeasty, with some citrus, and spice. Overall, this is an okay quaff.

Appearance: A light golden color (much lighter than most Marzens) with a fluffy head that quickly fades into a slight ring.

Smell: Well, it's skunky, and of course that's at least somewhat intentional, but the malt and hop flavors, which I can detect only somewhat, are muted. and that's not good for a style that I particularly expect to find a nice sweet, and autumn-inviting smell. Think Heineken (and that's not a good thing).

Taste: Bread, pleasant malt flavor with some alcohol and a touch of hops coming in. Nice, but not what I generally look for in an Oktoberfest beer.

Mouthfeel: A little bit sticky, but otherwise the medium thickness and carbonation are fine.

Overall: There isn't much for me to like here even though Hofbrauhaus beers are usual reliably exceptional. It'd make for a good session beer but it's not extraordinary and is easily forgettable.

11.2 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in an imperial nonic pint glass

A - It is golden with a little off-white head. At least I think it was. It disappeared before I could tell.

S - Since it was in a green bottle, I expected a skunked smell. I really don't get that. Instead I get some grassy, sweet malt aromas.

T - The taste is sweet and malty with a slight metallic aftertaste.

M - Pretty thin.

O - It was better than expected. It has been awhile since I have had this style of beer. I think I would rather have Great Lakes, but this is not bad.

330 ml (11.2 fl oz) poured into a 0.5ml dimpled stein

A: Pours a light golden color with about an inch and a half of head that quickly fades into a thin ribbon. Thin lacing that readily dissipates. Not very interesting.

S: Mildly boozy smell with a hint of malt.

T: Matches the aroma upfront but quickly fades. Mildly boozy.

M: Carbonation is nearly imperceptible. The combination of smoothness coupled with a very light body borders on the bland side.

O: Nothing to write home about. Quite drinkable but not very memorable beer. Was very excited when I picked this one up but don't think I'll be having any more of these.

500 ml bottle from LCBO poured into a pint glass.

Appearance - Brilliant golden color, nice white creamy head with about 1.5 fingers of head that lingers for awhile. Minimal lacing left on the glass.

Smell - Mild malts mostly some form of grainy element and definitely a sweetness as well. Hops virtually invisible.

Taste - Bready grains are most evident, as well as the sweetness which is a bit too strong, faint hop presence and mild bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Definitely a rich feel , lower carbonation. A bit syrupy and doesn't quite have the crisp clean finish that other styles present. Nonetheless the richness makes this an attractive sipping beer.

Overall - A tasty beer, but the sweetness while not artificial I find is a bit overdone.
