Overall - I am not a big fan of this beer because it tasted like scotch. But the golden yellow color was a pleasant color to see.
Color - Gold, Yellow
Taste - Scotch note
Smell - dark

Poured from a bottle to a Hofbräu mug
A - Clear gold with a thick white head (if you pour it the German way)
S - Only yeast
T - A German lager
M - Correct Carbonation
O - A lager with little personality, no particular aroma but nothing wrong either.

The classic german lager. This beer defines the style. It tastes like what beer, as a general category, is meant to taste like. Biscuity, light, refreshing. Little hop, perfect carbonation. This beer won't fight any american ales in a flavor battle, but it is a flagship of good beer.

The beer was a very light, golden color. It had a sweet and grassy aroma, but a hint of malt. The Taste of the beer was very earthy and had a smooth finish. Horbrau also had an acidic up front taste. Aftertaste of the beer was very earthy and was a bit acidic. Overall, I thought the beer was fair, but it would not be my every day drink.

Great traditional German lager. Plenty of biscuity goodness, an earthy hop balance, and exceptional drinkability. Light and refreshing and easy to consume all day long. Prost!

Poured a nice golden color with a white filmy head. A little bit of lacing and good bubbly carbonation. The aroma is a little grassy, sweet, and has a floral hint along with maltiness, but I had to go searching for them. The taste is similar to the aroma. The malt is upfront and I get more of the grass on the back end along with a dry, bitterness. The mouthfeel is nice. A smooth brew up front, good fizzy carbonation, but the finish dries up nicely with a slow bite of bitterness. Overall, an easy beer to drink. Light, refreshing, with a pretty decent balance between sweetness and bitterness. I like the grassy tones and the slightly dry, bitter finish. I could easily sit back on a nice summery day and throw a few of these back.

on tap in a 0.5L mug. --- smell: light malt sweetness combined with herbal noble hop spiciness. look: this is pale golden lager with half inch white head with good retention and filtered clear. taste: light grainy malt flavors balanced by soft, retrained bitterness. feel: medium body with creamy texture, crisp carbonation and subtle astringency. it finishes short and dry with a late burst of bitterness. - these are all traits that you'd expect of a well executed Helles.

Totally clear gold color, a fine stream of gyser-style bubbles creates a fine, thin layer of white foam. Bubbly in the middle at all times.

Herbal, earthy, funky German lager yeast has a wonderful, classic aroma. Corn and dry wheat, with a heavy herbal mix.

The flavor is just classic German Helles, light, crisp but a long and rather smooth finish. Full of yeast/herbal hop combo goodness. The hops have the spicey/herbal kick under a rather green veggie taste. The balance is just perfect. Whoever said good beer doesn't come in a green bottle was lost.

The color of gold, clear beer covered with tall, white foam quite durable. Melting leaves a lot of decorations, unfortunately, not very nicely breaks.
The aroma is a leading malt and delicate notes similar to sauerkraut.
Taste: as above, malty, sweet and grassy notes, silage withdrawn. Gentian very minimal.
Saturation high, adds vigor.
Not bad.

Bottle:
Light golden in color and quite clear, and grew a big head on a medium pour. Nice long retention of the headwith a lovely streams of bubbles supplying it.

Had a little olive note as I was pouring it that didn't entice me. But in analyzing, there is a little sweet and light bread notes. The malt plays a big role in the nose, thought there is light dry grass note as well.

Has a classic German bready maltiness to it. The beer is quite crisp with a decent tickle from the carbonation, but with softness at the edges, somehow. The light grass to hay-like bitterness is pushed to the back, and takes a while to evict all of the malt sweetness from my taste buds.

First off let me say I had 2 16.9 glass bottles of Hofbräu Original.
L- poured from bottle to glass with golden yellow color & 1/2-1 finger head of foam.
S- a slight smell of corn & wheats upon first whiff.
T- heaven..no literally this is one of, if not my favorite beer of choice ! The flavor in the hops of this brew really mask the alcohol, almost cant even taste it. Goes down smooth with little to no beer burn.
F- you'll notice right off the bat theres little carbonation in this brew, pretty comparible to a dry stout, makes for an easy dinner drink.
Overall I'd definite recommend anyone and everyone to go try this one for yourselves, you will not be dissapointed. Def worth the price !

Pours a bright golden color with a froth, medium sized head.

Smells of sugar infused cereals, wheat and fresh cut grass with a herbal whiff atop.

Drinks incredibly easy, refreshing and light bodied with an effervescent, sweet finish.

Tastes of an aqueous softness with a slowly uprising malt breadiness, resulting in a pleasant toffee sweetness, together with some wheat and grass. Finishes with just the right amount of grassy crispness, a bubbly, lively carbonation and toffee.

Nice, well composed beer, light and refreshing with the right amount of depth.

On draft, 1 Litre Mass at Hofbrauhaus, Munich, outstanding helles, probably the best on offer anywhere in Munich, as an beer experience this has to be tried and the surroundings of the Hofbrauhaus are just magnificent. Unfortunately it is not always possible to get a seat in the Hofbrauhaus (tourist trap).

This is a deliciously righteous German euro lager. Golden, fine white head. Great balance with a smooth, outstanding finish. Grassy, bready mouthful with a peppery tinge. Delicious ice cold.

I don't think I need to go into specific details here other then I believe this is probably the best Euro style lager ever made. Everything about it is perfect! Incredibly pure beer that is insanely well balanced... All the caveats you'd expect from this type of beer is met with 100% accuracy. It just doesn't get any better the this. At $40.00 per case, it is a bit on the pricey side, BUT it is worth EVERY penny!

One thing to remember though. Unfortunately the brewer, for some stupid reason like many others, decided to package this incredible 'brew' in a green bottle! BOOOOOO!! (man I could write a book about how STUPID this is..) I have noted in some reviews the reviewer noted some 'skunk' in the aroma, worst yet, actually expected such thing as a common reality with many imported beers. This is completely WRONG!!!! Beer should NEVER, ever exude any skunk aroma (thus taste) if it is the beer is bad..PERIOD. Even the slightest bit of skunk in the smell, no matter how slight, is evidence that it is been light struck and is ruined. Don't drink it. If it's skunk, it's junk... and will not taste the way it is suppose to.

SO...if you do buy this beer ensure the six pack came out of a fresh, completely enclosed case in where light has no chance of spoiling this beer. I just buy this stuff a case at a time and leave it in the box completely closed, and only open the box briefly to remove it a bottle at a time.

I honestly wish Hofbrau, like many other fine brewers, would offer this beer in half liter cans, or at the very least, start packaging them in brown bottles. I will just NEVER understand the stupidity of going through all the effort and expense to make such a fine brew, and then package it in a container that will spoil it before a customer can enjoy it!!! Talking about shooting oneself in the foot before a foot race!!!! WTH??

From Hipercor. In Bavaria glass. In Teku glass. After dinner. Very drinkable and smooth, as usual in this brewery. A bit grassy taste and aroma and bit watery. Below other offerings of HB but fine. The foam looks artificial and soapy

Poured a clear gold color with a half finger white head. Light lacing. Aroma is clean, slightly grassy and bready. Taste is crisp, lightly malty upfront, a bit of biscuit, and with a slight hop bight on the tail. Very balanced taste. Light body with medium carbonation. This is a very good summer beer.

Fantastic beer.

Just a slight notch below Weihanstephaner Original. A bit more raw.. more grassy and unrefined is how I would compare it. In fact sometimes I would prefer this to it. Not available in my area so I only get it when my parents bring it in so it may be a superior value pricewise.

A must have for any fans of the style.

Lots of foam on initial pour. Little flavor, went down very smooth. Somewhat watery to me with no aftertaste. I would not drink this beer again. Earthy undertones left me with no great flavor profile.

Served cool to cold from 500ml brown (not green!) bottle into straight glass.

L) Golden colour, crystal clear, bubbly white head that very quickly dissipates to a film. Very few visible rising bubbles.

S) A bit of a let down, smells a bit like any other mass market lager, and not a Munich Helles.

T) Light lager malt, a pleasant bit of bitterness. Way off the balance that you get from Augustiner etc.

F) Very nicely fizzy, a bit of bitterness bite, the best aspect of this beer.

O) A disappointment being as it is perhaps the most famous Munich Helles, but this is from a bottle and I can't remember complaining when I was stood on the table necking a Mas of this in the Hofbrauhaus,. All I can say is go to the Hofbrauhaus and drink some, you will be happy. If you are looking for a bottle of Helles, go Augustiner.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle.

L - 2 finger head, which reduced to one finger after 1-1/2 minutes. Some foam on surface for entire drink. Lots of lacing. Very clear, golden colour. Lots of carbonation, like champagne (small bubbles).

S - faint - earthy, bready.

T - malty, rich, bready, earthy. Some melanoidin (likely decocted).

F - medium bodied, well-blanced, lots of carbonation, crips.

O - a very enjoyable, quality beer. Will definitely drink again.

Pours clear and bright golden color with nice but fast disappearing head and minimal lacing. The smell is rather neutral with some fruit notes. Taste is light and refreshing with the hints of bread and light citrical aftertaste.
All in all very nice and balanced beer, surely will go back to it.
