Dark, shimmering copper with good clarity. A big 2 finger off white head, lightly soapy, fizzes down in to ring around the class. Wispy cap and delicate lacing.
The aroma is toasted bread, molasses, clove and licorice. A bit of grain, a bit of hay.
Taste follows the aroma, only amped up, which is not to say overbearing. Nice, big malts show a balance of pumpernickel, molasses, dry, grassy noble hops with a touch of pepper in the finish.
Medium in body with good carbonation and a nice dry, hoppy finish.

Hoppier and lighter than most, Hofbrau Dunkel is begs another sip.

Got a half liter draft served in a clear stein. Color is caramelly brown with a head of off white foam that dissipated rather quickly leaving a pretty, lacy film on the side and surface. Aroma is gentle, very malty with hints of wheat and nuts. Taste is, as expected, very malty, slightly sharp (not a bad thing), with no lingering notes on the palate. Very nice brew especially if you're a fan of the malt as I am. This is a beer I would like to sit and enjoy for an evening with friends without studying the notes and nuances of the brew.

Had at BJ's Oktoberfest dinner 2017 so took no notes. I enjoyed it though.

Poured from 12oz bottle into Pilsener Glass. No date.

L: Clear brown, two and a half finger off white head has great retention.

S: Grainy malt, bready, something fruity and herbal too.

T: Nice grainy malt flavor with fruity grape flavor.

F: Light, below average carbonation and a lingering roasty flavor.

O: Pretty good Dunkel.

11.2 oz bottle with code "L335P" on the back (the L means nothing, 335th day, P is the 16th letter of the alphabet so 2016).

Color is a beautiful ruby brown with brilliant clarity. A large, creamy, light tan head eventually settles down to a thin cap, leaving a fair amount of lacing on the glass.

A big, bready aroma with light caramel and chocolate. Toasted malt and bread dominate the flavor as well. Light caramel, nuts, and chocolate play off of these flavors. A faint herbal note at the end from the hops, but make no mistake, this is all about the malt.

Medium-bodied, soft, and clean. Easy to drink several of these in one sitting.

Despite a fairly old bottle, drinking this takes me back to the Hofbräuhaus in Munich, where I enjoyed more than one maß. It's a beer whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts. It's meant for drinking, not sipping and being dissected. A delicious dunkel, yet a small notch below Ayinger's in my book.

11.2oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a dark auburn with copper hues and has bubbles racing upwards; big frothy light khaki head that sticks around leaving great thick retention and sticky frothy lacing. The aromas are nice. Lots of caramel and toffee. Malts and barley is there. The flavors basically follow the nose for the most part. More caramel and toffee. Toasted characteristics are there. Malts do their thing. Moderate bitterness. It finishes slightly sweet. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is great. It's on the fuller side of light-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's extremely fluffy and creamy. Very smooth and easy to drink.

This is a great lager. The craftsmanship is very impressive. Very enjoyable stuff. Well done. This would really hit the spot during the fall.

From the bottle, it pours a darker reddish amber with a nice tan head. The head lasts a bit, Roasted malt in the nose. Roasted malt in the mouth. Nice!

Poured from the bottle. A nice foam head atop a maroon-brown body. Aroma of caramel and and some whiffs of cocoa. Tastes the same as the aroma but with a touch of hops at the end. Mouthfeel is medium. This was the first from Hofbrau Brewery and wished I sampled it fresh while I was in Munich.
