Clear amber brown pour with slim tan head, mostly a ring. Aroma is malty goodness with cooked sugar, bread and slight spice. Flavor follows though more subdued. If it tasted like it smells it would be wow. A little thin and watery, but very drinkable and enjoyable, just wish it was more full-flavored.

Bready yeasty dark with rich barley malt backbone. Caramel and herbs grace the palate of this light brew. Pours light brown with khaki-white head that dissipates as quick as it froths up in the clearish pour. Moist finish. Toasty bread loaf smell. Bread in a bottle.

Pours dark amber, head slow to dissapate. Comparing to other German dunkels, this is an easy drinker, dark malt flavor is weak, mouthfeel is thin. Still, consistent quality throughout.

Unfortunately this beer was skunked due to the green bottle therefore the numbers are skewed. I will seek this beer out again and hopefully find a fresh bottle

The beer is a dark copper/brownish color with some transparency. Decent carbonation with a soapy head. I am not getting much off the nose. I am not sure how old the bottle I bought from the store so that may have something to do with it. I am just getting the bready malt aroma that associate with many German lagers. The taste is a little more bready than the nose and has a slight sweetness to it. Medium boded beer with a light crispness to it. A very refreshing feel.

Poured from a bottle, into a Funky Buddha snifter.

Thin, soapy, off white colored head.Brown / amber in color with medium clarity.Medium carbonation.

On the nose I get dark malts, banana, and some earthy notes.I'm getting some kind of nuts as well as some dark sweet breads. The aroma is pretty sweet.

The palate follows the nose, dark malts, banana some earthy flavors, and nuts.

The body is medium, with a wet finish.

This is a decent beer, not something I would drink all the time, but still good.

Amber in body with frothy off-white head that stays. Aroma of darkened bananas, raisin bread, Irish soda bread, some earth and foliage. Tastes of raisin bread, darkened bananas, earth, mild medicinal flavors, some Hop presence, and possibly vanilla. Light bodied with medium carbonation.

O: Pretty bland dunkel nothing too exciting, but it isn't bad either

Poured into flute. Fizzes, then dispenses with head. Ruby brown.

Sweet nose of caramel malt.

Nothing shocking the taste. Same as smell, but better.

Well carbonated. Smooth mouth nevertheless.

Hofbrau's Dunkel is a great example of an unpretentious beer that's still got enough character to be absolutely satisfying without flash. For fans of dunkelweizen, Oktoberfest, English brown ale, and Dunkel lager.

Poured into a 36 ounce stein. Buiscuity wheat bread on the nose. Slight cocoa and graininess on the nose. Nice topping with ideal lacing down the mug. Big malty backbone followed by a smooth, slightly hoppy, tart finish. Very clean. A bit of a metallic aftertaste is it's only drawback, oh, and the green bottle. Tastes even better as it warms. Very refreshing and a great quaffable treat any time of the year.

A nice ruby/brown color with little head. Smells like caramel and malts. Tastes like caramel and malts, much sweeter than I expected, but a bit bitter as well. Seems like the definition of medium bodied. Overall a classic worth trying, even if it's not my favorite.

From a bottle, pours a clear brown with an off-white head. Aromas of caramel and toasted malts. Taste is malt-forward and caramel with some sweet hops and vaugue fruit. Lots of carbonation and very drinkable.

A: This beer is a deep ruby red/burgandy color. Supports a foamy off white head about 1 finger in depth. Nice lacing on the glass.

S: Not getting much from the aroma, maybe some dark roasted malts with hints of toast and cocoa nibs.

T: The taste upfront is toast and biscuit. Then you get a slight toffee nut sweetness that turns into a bitterness in the back end that just tickles the tongue.

MF: This is a light-medium bodied beer that has a crisp and clean finish.

O: Very refreshing and flavorful enough to keep you coming back. Overall a pretty good dunkel.

Pretty good traditional dark Bavarian lager. Aroma is fresh dark roasty malt. Flavor's similar to nose, not overly sweet, good carbonation. Perhaps a touch thin. Great finish

Dark red/orange when held up to light. Poured dirrectly into krug and made a strong head which stays longer than most lagers.

Smells and tastes slightly of molasses. Leaves a toast-like finish. The one I'm having isn't totally chillled, but this beer holds well warm.

Thi sia a classic German beer that holds its own. Poured form the bottle, it holds a nice head with great carbonation throughout the bottle. Its has a clean finish and a solid taste. Its amazing what 3 simple ingredients can make. If you are looking for a classic Bavarian beer, Hofbrau Dunkel is the one. The medium brown color and the extra flavor lends itself to the drinker who enjoys a traditional beer with a solid backbone of flavour. This is an overall great tasting beer with a solid body that stands up through the entire beer from bottle to glass to stomach.

Enjoyed straight out of the bottle on a hot evening after a long day of lab work.

Appearance- dark amber, clear, no head.

Aroma- Fresh-baked bread, with caramel notes and maybe a little brown sugar hiding in the back.

Taste- Strong caramel malty sweetness that lingers on the tongue, with just the slightest touch of hops at the end to cut the sweetness.

Mouthfeel- thicker on the tongue, but rather short, which keeps the beer from feeling too heavy. Still pretty refreshing on a hot summer day.

Overall- Definitely recommend. First had in a litre stein at Hofbräu in Munich, and this bottle brings back great memories. Delicious beer! Don't fear the dark!

Look: Nice translucent chestnut color with a thin fluffy head. Not many carbonation bubbles.

Smell: Smelled malt upfront with a light burnt caramel. Very faint hop notes come thru the maltiness.

Taste: Dark bready taste what's soft of the tongue. Not sweet but not bitter. Nice balance on the pallet of toasted malt flavored and a smooth lager feel.

Overall: Definitely an easy beer to drink but not something I would drink every day. I will really enjoy this beer during the fall on a cool fall evening!

Poured from a green 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a chestnut color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is malts, bready, light skunk. Taste is dark breads, very malty, some caramel and nuts. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a highly drinkable beer that was finished quickly, and a fine example of this style.

Pours a clear chestnut brown with a slightly browned fluffy head. Aroma and flavors are toasty bread, slight caramel, some noble hop character, and even a hint of raisin and honey. Creamy mouthfeel. Perfect for pairing with food and very quaffable.

Served cool from brown 500ml bottle into straight pilsner mug.

L) The head is a good 3cm, fluffy, brown-tinged . The colour has a strong red tinge to the medium brown colour. Clear with lots of smallish bubbles rising.

S) Lightly roasted fruity malt.

T) Nicely fruity, very clean flavour for a Dunkel. There is a bit of roasted malt bitterness on the aftertaste, but it is subtle. A hint of sourness.

F) Light mouthfeel, nice carbonation, no bitter aftertastes.

O) This is at the light end of the Dunkel spectrum, but it is a nice easy drinker and I like it, so happy to recommend.

APPEARANCE: A very dark red/ruby. Finger of eggshell foamy head that dissipates fairly quickly and leaves a ring on top.
AROMA: Now I really know what a skunked beer is. That is all, skunk.
TASTE: Sweet malt. And maybe it's just the aroma added in but, some of that skunk.
FEEL: Medium thin body, slightly sticky, dry finish. Plenty of carbonation.
OVERALL: Last green bottle purchase I make. Just bought a single, but that was major skunk and it ruins any enjoyment I can get out of this beer. If I get a free one in the future and it isn't skunked I'll update. Get rid of the stupid green bottles!

The beer comes in ruby brown color.

The aroma offers nuttiness, whole wheat bread , hints of diacetyl.

The flavor follows with toasty bread, dried nuts, stiff bitterness and earthiness on the finish. A crisp beer with a medium to medium minus mouthfeel and medium depth of toasty malt and restrained caramel sweetness.

From Hipercor. In Teku glass. Reading CPPHTP10 Ch16. Very drinkable, but have gone up my head more quickly than expected, not sure why as its ABV is pretty low
