Clear, medium-dark amber color. Nice balance of hops with a slightly malty finish. Yeah, the Germans know what they're doing. This one is really good!

My first time trying a Dunkel. Let's see how it stacks up.

Serving style : skinny 11.2oz glass bottle poured into glass

Appearance (4.25) : Nice, rich and creamy four fingered beige head popping like pop rocks. Underneath it is a root beer colored body with about 60% opacity. Beige cap leaves flicks of lacing on the glass as it retreats.

Aroma (4) : Snow pea, Wheat, Aged barrels, room temperature cilantro (that is to say, stronger than cold cilantro), oatmeal.

Taste (3.5) : Flavorful, full, a bit wheaty; barley malts, bread crust, plant; and then cilantro with some honorable hops pops out at the end. I have to say it tastes better out of the bottle than it does the glass. It's like a very tasty pale ale out of the bottle, and it's plant-infested bread out of the glass.

Mouthfeel (3.5) : Light-bodied, crisp, ends semi-dry.

Overall (3.54) : It's a tasty brew similar to a pale wheat ale. It's got the hops and cilantro thing going on, which pushes it into American Pale Ale territory, but it also has an uncanny maltiness that APAs typically do not have. It's not my type of beer but it's drinkable, and I'm glad I at least got to try it. Won't be buying it again, but I can respect it for what it is.
