11-26-16 - Half liter pour in the main beer hall at the Hofbrau Haus in downtown Munich, Germany. Can't get a much better "look" than this.

Poured into flute. Fizzes, then dispenses with head. Ruby brown.

Sweet nose of caramel malt.

Nothing shocking the taste. Same as smell, but better.

Well carbonated. Smooth mouth nevertheless.

Hofbrau's Dunkel is a great example of an unpretentious beer that's still got enough character to be absolutely satisfying without flash. For fans of dunkelweizen, Oktoberfest, English brown ale, and Dunkel lager.

Poured into a 36 ounce stein. Buiscuity wheat bread on the nose. Slight cocoa and graininess on the nose. Nice topping with ideal lacing down the mug. Big malty backbone followed by a smooth, slightly hoppy, tart finish. Very clean. A bit of a metallic aftertaste is it's only drawback, oh, and the green bottle. Tastes even better as it warms. Very refreshing and a great quaffable treat any time of the year.

A nice ruby/brown color with little head. Smells like caramel and malts. Tastes like caramel and malts, much sweeter than I expected, but a bit bitter as well. Seems like the definition of medium bodied. Overall a classic worth trying, even if it's not my favorite.

From a bottle, pours a clear brown with an off-white head. Aromas of caramel and toasted malts. Taste is malt-forward and caramel with some sweet hops and vaugue fruit. Lots of carbonation and very drinkable.

A: This beer is a deep ruby red/burgandy color. Supports a foamy off white head about 1 finger in depth. Nice lacing on the glass.

S: Not getting much from the aroma, maybe some dark roasted malts with hints of toast and cocoa nibs.

T: The taste upfront is toast and biscuit. Then you get a slight toffee nut sweetness that turns into a bitterness in the back end that just tickles the tongue.

MF: This is a light-medium bodied beer that has a crisp and clean finish.

O: Very refreshing and flavorful enough to keep you coming back. Overall a pretty good dunkel.

Pretty good traditional dark Bavarian lager. Aroma is fresh dark roasty malt. Flavor's similar to nose, not overly sweet, good carbonation. Perhaps a touch thin. Great finish
