Oude Geuze Boon is one of the finest examples of the traditional 100% spontaneous fermentation Lambic style.

This Lambic beer is aged for 1, 2 or 3 years in oak casks. The blend, a mild average 18 month old Lambic (unsweetened, unfiltered, unpasteurized) is refermented in the bottle and can be stored for up to 20 years.

Taste: Very fresh, more fruity than spicy with touches of citrus and oak.
Color: Clear golden
Serving suggestion: Pour gently at 12°C/52°F
Storage tip: Keep the bottles cool and in an upward position

While not my favorite style, this may be one of my favorites in the style.
Rocky head releases the style's earthy stuff. But what makes this my favorite is that it is not too sour and does not reassert its sourness as others usually do. A pleasant sour.

Retaste 12/19/17 at Beer Temple class on Belgians. No change in my opinion that this is my favorite in a style that I cannot cotton to.

Listed in the "1001" (and deserves to be there), MJ's "Great Beers of Belgium" said it has "a firm body, Seville Orange fruitiness and appetisingly bitter finish."

Boon, Geuze from Pajottenland, ZenneValei, offers you an extreme sensation.
Natural yeasted oaked beer. And developped like a delicious malt vinegar.
You taste all. And you hate or love, or do both like me.
Because me, as an the honest drinker, I will tell you: I taste dirty underwear and burnt rubber, but bad me, I really like it.

375 ml bottle poured into a Tulip.
2018/2019 Brewing Season

L: Slightly hazy, amber with 2 finger head, white foam is dense and recedes slowly to solid cap, a few bits of suspended sediment made into the glass, the bottom of the bottle has a ring of sediment.
S: Moderate strength nose, fruity, peach, hints at lactic sweetness, a little bit of light funk aroma.
T: Dry and tart, fairly clean, not sweet at all, sour fruit, a little bit acidic, a bit of light funk in the sour finish.
F: Light bodied but not thin, carbonated enough for a good cork pop, but has only a minor crisp opening.
O: Good flavor, but the sour character is barely manageable for my palate, some rich meats and cheese would balance this nicely but drinking it solo is a bit much for me.

375ml Bottle (2017/2018) Pours a hazey amber/copper colour with a half finger off-white head which has good retention. Aroma is sour, fruity and quite funky. Taste is tart and acidic with earthy notes and a touch of spice. Slight white wine taste in there too. Medium mouth feel & dry finish. A good solid gueuze.

750ml bottle into a tulip. 2012/2013 vintage. Best by 2034.

Looks very good in the glass. Glowing hazy burnt orange body with a huge off white head. This persists throughout, though leaves little in the way of lacing.

Interesting aroma. Barnyard, musty, funky. Actually the smell is much more pleasing than it sounds.

Well, the taste doesn't follow the nose at all. The sour level is about medium. It's quite drying. Very obvious oak notes. A fair amount of dry spice as well.

Mouth above medium, finish is where a little citrus and bitterness creep into the mix.

Overall, and I have limited experience with this style, this seems quite complex, and the wandering flavors are very pleasing. Have a bunch more geuze in the fridge, looking forward to the journey.

Like a previous reviewer I think I had a bottle that was off. Not good enough. Tasted incredibly sour - had two small sips and consigned it to the sink.

Was excited to try to this, but worry the bottle I bought was bad, as my experience was nothing like the reviews. Cork popped, poor was good, beer looked fine, but smell was underwhelming and taste was worse. Was expecting some sourness, some acidity, got nothing of that sort. Taste was almost bland, but then bitting wuth little bit of grassiness/earth like a Saison, but not pleasant. Not alcoholic tasting, but left me not wanting to finish it

The only other non fruit Belgium Lambic I've had was a Cantillon years ago which was great. Not expecting that, but confused by this beer so hope it was not representative of Boon
