G – Tripel Karmeliet tulip

A – Honey-orange hue with wispy white foam and blots of lace abounding.

S – The aroma is of charred, tarry wood, tart pear and peach impressions and vinous white grape. Sublime.

T – It begins with a Champagne-apple cider impression which turns quite puckeringly tart, with suggestions of wood, mineral, and tar that go from semi-sweet to astringent to sweet again on the finish. White grape, sour peach, watermelon, grapefruit and pear nuances abound as well. Earthy, spicy, herbal hop flavors are available throughout, but are sharpened on the lingering finish.

M – Very effervescent, refreshing, and Champagne-like with a very good balance of astringency and saturation.

D – Very luxurious, pairs exceptionally well, a very nice example of the style.

I drank this from a 11.2 oz bottle into an Orval glass.

The beer pours a light hazy gold with a small light white head, not much retention or lacing.

The aroma is medium tart, not a ton of funk, slight leather.

The taste is similar to the aroma, its medium in funk and taste, doesn't bring a ton to the table.

Its fairily drinkable.

Overall, this is ok. Probably a good geuze for a beginner. It gives you a little funk but allows it to be very drinkable.

Appearance: brownish gold in color, cloudy, minimal head, medium carbonation

Smell: apple and sour mix

Taste: apple, sour mix, and sugar

Mouthfeel: sweet and sour mix, high carbonation, medium body

Drinkability: A very good and tasty gueuze. I could have two or three. I like the dry apple taste.

Acquired at the Cellar in Woodbury. Expiration date 12/2022.

A: Opens with a sharp pop, funky smells emerging. Poured into a Chimay chalice a light ruby/copper colour with a well retaining 1/2" off-white head. Some stickage to the glass and lacing as it dies down.

S: Wet grass/hay, something reminiscent of the nights air at a carnival, horse blanket, funk. Apple, pear, tropical fruit. Smells tart.

T: Not as intense as the smell. Light tartness up front, farm grass/hay, leather. Pear. Tart, chalky finish. Bubblegum. Somewhat floral finish, before returning to a tart sourness.

M: Dry and thin, well carbonated.

D: A very well rounded geueze, which was enjoyed to the fullest extent.

Felt like I was missing out on something good...
so my action was tying a lambic style beer. Geuze Boon a Geuze style mix of new and old Lambic brews. Two years aged in oak vats.

A- Pours a beautiful glowing hazed orange with massive fizzy off white head that lurks around for the duration of the beer. Excellent lacing holds on to the glass with all its might.

S- Fresh citrus fruits backed by a mild tart twang that teases the nose. Vines and old grass come to mind... weird.

T-M- Wow... very unique tarty bite upfront with heavy tangy aftertaste. Bitter un-ripe grapefruit and other citrus fruits start with a wild yeasty twang at the end. Very dry finish with the right amount of bitterness leaving the tongue wanting more.

D- Execellent start to my Lambic style tests.
Will get more of this tasty beer for later and cellering.

A - Pours an inch of white head that has good retention. It settles down into a nice ring of lacing. The beer is a hazy golden-orange.

S - A tart aroma with a bit of funkiness. There is also a bit of oak apparent.

M - Light in body and high in carbonation, has a fizzy mouth feel. It has a dry finish to it.

T - A fairly complex taste. There is a bit of apple cider and sourness up front. There is a little bit of funkiness followed by a tart, dry finish.

This is my first brew of this style, and it's a nice introduction to sour beers. It's fairly approachable and goes down nicely.

375ml green bottle w cork and cage. labeled best before 26.04.2027. cork is printed with SB53. tasted in mid-may 2009. poured into small tulip.

golden honey color. clear if decanted properly. 1.5-finger head, fades to wisps and ring. sparse lacing here and there.

aroma: cider vinegar and gentle funk. hay and dried grass. wood note.

taste: cider vinegar again, wood, leathery funk, hay, but all a bit watery and one-dimensional. mildly tart, with malty sweet hint in the otherwise tart, dry finish.

light body, with acidic texture and hint of astringency. too fizzy though.

interesting that this is their regular gueuze (not the "oude" version), yet seems to follow the traditional/"oude" style and doesn't appear to be sweetened. i suppose that deserves some credit.

A - his beer pours one of the best looking heads I've seen on a beer: Very large, well defined bubbles form a beautiful lacing. Lots of visible carbonation. Pale yellow in color.

S - Very tart, puckering apple accompanied by some earthiness (dirt), and possibly some damp wood, and, of course, that farmhouse funkiness suggestive of the style.

T - Sour fruits are the primary flavor. Not overpowering and not as complex as the aroma implied. Enjoyable, though.

M/D - Light body with dry, tart aftertaste. This style of beer I always find incredibly drinkable, and this is a great example of one!

Presentation: It was poured from a green corked and caged 335ml bottle into a tulip glass. There is a best before date of 25-04-2027 on the bottle.

Appearance: The body has a hazy golden orange color with lots of beautiful Champaign like carbonation. On top there is a lively, big, fluffy head with a creamy off white color. It fades slowly but hangs on to a thin covering that make some slick lacing on the glass.

Smell: The aroma is interesting and complex. In the nose there is notes of apples, apple cider vinegar, light oak notes, wet wool and rose petals.

Taste/Mouth Feel: Its flavor is just as complex as the aroma. There is a little bit of astringent citrus with hard apple cider notes that give it a nice sharp sour character. Also there are some floral notes, dry hay and light woody oak notes and next to no hops. The finish has a sharp dry sour oak finish. The body is about medium with lively mouth feel and lively active carbonation.

Notes: Outstanding, a very good example of the style.

appearance: champagne fizzy look, had to pour slow.... pale ale color

smell: smelled liked tart and fruity

taste: not extemelely sour enough but had a good taste. I'm just started to get into sours and this was interesting

mouthfeel: high carbonation and light

drinkability: was slow for me. I need to get used to it. I'll retry when I appreciate the style more later.

This is ok but seems rather thin, light, and bland to me, with little real taste beyond a light tart-sour character.

Pale amber and slightly hazy, it has a huge off-white head slowly shrinking to a permanent thin top but leaves no lace.

The aroma is slightly funky and fruity, yeasty with strong turned pears, hints of grain, metal, and cheddar cheese. It seems close to what I would expect and seems promising.

The taste, though, is quite thin and bland, kind of like very dry champagne (which I don't like and find rather flavourless). It has a fizzy, thin, dry feel as well. It's tart, even mouth puckeringly tart at first, with a light sourness and vinegary turned fruit. Otherwise, it has just a light yeasty-pear skin taste and only a hint of grain that lingers in the aftertaste. Beyond being just dry, tart, and sour, however, it has almost no character and all the rest is very light and it is very thin and bland.
It certainly has no complxity because it has almost no flavour profile at all. It's ok and I can see why someone who enjoys just having tartness or sourness might like it, but I get almost no funky yeasty character or anything else and I see no point in ever drinking anything that has so little taste. I might as well drink tap water.

Pours a somewhat hazy straw-yellow with a thick and not persistent white head - not very inspiring, but this is the beer's weakest point. Aroma is quite strong, yeasty with malty and fruity undertones. Flavor is rich and crisp, malty with a good sour-apple component and a touch of hops. Texture is edgy and fizzy, leaving a pleasantly sour aftertaste.

Bottle my local major Supermarket decided to clear out at 25% off....bonus. I guess there aren't enough sour beer drinkers in this part of town. Date on label 06.08.2027.

Lovely golden color, acidic aroma. Effervescent and tart, leading into sour. Very tasty and one of the easier drinking geuzes I've tried. The tartness dulls a bit as my mouth gets used to it, but retains enough pucker to keep it enjoyable.

Wishing I would have picked up quite a few more at clear-out prices.

Poured from a 12 ounce green caged cork bottle into a Duvel tulip. Freshness date on the back label of 25.04.2027. ABV of 6.5%.

Very carbonated. Big white head. Hazy golden orange/yellow in color. Has a bit of a hay and barnyard smell. Intense funky lemon sourness in the taste. This was my very first gueze and I loved it.

From a 750 ml bottle, this brew poured a hazy straw color with a towering white head. Beautiful lace and a yeasty-cloudy character to the liquid. The aroma is at first barn-yard like, but also sweet and fruity (apple and pear). The barn-yard, horse-like funk is good, but could be a little more intense. The taste is moderately sour, but quite balanced. It's not the pucker-your-lips, eye-squintingly sour that I expected....it's very well balanced and quite drinkable. Wheat, yeast, and fruit flavors dominate the flavor. Spritzy and light in body. Despite the fact that I first found it a little shy (for a lambic), this is a very nice Geuze.

The head on this beer is ridiculously amazingly cool. Huge and rocky it overpowers the ambrosia beneath. The color is a milky orange. Beautiful.
The barnyard funk smell that some fear is increasingly present as the beer warms. This, however, combined with high carbonation and a sour twang work well. It is almost a cider like experience with much more depth. The malt is hidden behind the sour complexities and there is no alcohol presence in either smell or taste. The mouthfeel is impressive, a little light on the body, high carbonation, and a sour finish that leaves an interesting aftertaste in the mouth.
I could not drink this beer regularly, but when paired with food, the possibilities really open up.

12.7mL bottle poured into my brand new sniftner. The bottle had a best by date of...April 25, 2027. that's craziness.

A - cloudy orange/amber color with 1.5cm of white head.

S - dead skunk, lactic acid.

T - dead skunk, lactic acid, complete with a mouth-puckering tartness, slight fruit flavor, maybe. there's not much going on here as the lactic acid is the most prominent flavor.

M - pretty carbonated, like champagne. normal consistency for gueze.

D - this is the second gueze I've ever had. I think that Cuvee Renee was much better. This one lacked a diverse flavor profile.

Bought in Orlando at Knightly Spirits and drank in Austin. Sturdy White head, very nice lacing. A hazy orange color. Sour apple aroma. Some sweetness. Stinky cheese, awesome. Yummy tart flavor, with a touch of sweetness. Zesty, drying. Very refreshing. I could sit back and sip this all day.

So he took his metal lathe and went to the oak forest with his friend. Some cheese in his pocket, a spare lemon and some crackers.

They got lost. Their leather moccasins got wet, began to tatter as they walked around aimlessly. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months... The hot summer had caused all of the fruit to fall off of the trees, and it was rotting in the sun.. at night they could sometimes find some that wasn't all bad. The cheese was all gone, but they began to gather the fruit and dump it into a large rotten log they had found, for safekeeping. The moccasins were eventually just decoration and potpourri for their newfound hobby.

They began to like it. Each day it became more complex, more interesting. The winters were mild, nothing to worry about but a bit of cheese-mold on the ceiling of their wooden home. The metal lathe began to rust, the copper adding a different element to the flavour, and every day more interesting, more complex...

And one day they heard... voices. After having been alone for two years.

"Mother! Mother! look! We've been gone, we've missed you, but look what we've made!"

"Ugh, it's putrid. It smells of vomit. You will never amount to anything, I never should have come looking for you this last time before I left you for dead."

"Oh, but you didn't, mother. I came looking for you. Every night. I found you, months ago. And I realized I'm happier here. I'll watch you when you least expect it, but I'm never coming back."

Pours a cloudy pale orange, nice bubbly head. Smells of yeast, citrusy lemon, tart cherry, faint vanilla, funky earthiness. Tastes of lemony tartness followed by a nice crisp malt sweetness ending with a dry bitterness. Some funk but pretty subdued. Great carbonation that adds crispness.

A good beer, probably the most sour one i've had so far. That being said, its got depth beyond the sourness that produces a nice crisp beverage. Not really my bag of tea, but i appreciate the effort.

12 oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip. Dark cloudy goldenrod with a humungous off-white head, more than 4 fingers tall. Excellent retention and absurd chunks of lacing. Aroma is mostly citrus peel and lemony sour with an orangey sweetness to it. Huge citric acid. Flavor is not nearly as sour as the aroma. Some of the lemony tartness is definitely still there, but bretty funk is at least even with sourness/acidity in the overall profile. Earthy and saison-like at times. Nice dry finish. Kind of like a part-gueuze part-Orval blend. Interesting and tasty, could be a good intro-to-sours beer.

Pours an impressive golden color with an even more impressive big, white, thick, fluffy head that refuses to go away. Immediately, the aroma cues my senses and I get that sour, puckering reaction like when you anticipate eating a Warhead. It is super funky and has hints of citrus and leather. The taste intensifies the character of this Gueuze. On the palate, strong funk, earth, and bits of leather come to mind. It is pleasantly sour and very drinkable. Wonderful beer in my opinion. I love the sourness and I will definitely buy this again.

Had at the Toronado in San Diego. Poured a slightly hazy blonde. Not much head to speak of.

Strong scents of tart fruit. White grapes, citrus, raspberry. The sheer sourness of the smell is making my mouth water.

Taste is very dry and sparkling, like a sour champagne. Heavy lemon zest and white grape. Zesty. I'm thinking this one would go very well with some seafood.

Good stuff. My first geuze. Definitely won't be my last.

Pours a clear cedar color with a fizzy head and no lacing. The nose has tart fruits, cabdy malts and some subtle oaky funk. The taste has a bit more of the sour citrus component which is well balanced by the malts and again a very subtle musky wood presence. Light body is well carbonated. Not the most complex, but a fine example of the style. A steal at $5 a bottle. Should age well for many years to come.

I talked to the beer guy at the Wine Exchange about beer when I was at checkout. He mentioned to me Boon Geuze is the only gueuze left to be brewed in the region the style is native too. That was a good to know. So here I have a 355 ml corked bottle, which I will pour into a flute, and pair with a side of brie. I find the 6*8*2027 on the bottle to be funny; by then I will be double my age. On to the beer:

Unfiltered blonde color, is this what keller biers looks like? The brownish yeast is floating near the top. Big bubbly head on top that's staying up and not coming down. Looks good in my flute at this point. Interesting smell; iron and tart fruit (raspberry). I strive on to taste.

The liquid doesn't soak the palate as much as I hoped, light in the mouth with some moderate carbonation. Well, it's sour at first, but what gueuze isn't? Some sweetness emerges, especially after I put a small piece of brie in my mouth. Quite acidic, mildly tart. Not too overwhelming in any given flavor, and it's drinkable for what it is.

Unique. Pairs well with brie, I recommend you do the same.
