Cannot get past the niquil taste. May be better with a few years on it but drinking the 2012 in late 2014 proved pretty disappointing to me. By a different one for a few bucks more would be my advice.

As a lambic fan, I'm looking forward to trying this -- "Brewed in Lembeek, the village that gave Lambic its name." Poured from a 375ml corked-and-caged bottle into a Delirium tulip at low altitude in NY.

A: Pours a translucent red wine color (think a light pinot noir) with a thin pink head of almost no retention. Not what comes to mind based on the lambics I've had in the past. No lacing to speak of, either.

S: Mainly smells like Ocean Spray cranberry/cherry juice, with a hint of funky sourness in the background. A fairly strong aroma overall.

T: The cherry juice flavors are definitely overpowering here. The only thing that reminds me I'm drinking beer is the slight hint of funk on the finish. Almost no sour flavors come through. Overall, cloyingly sweet and pretty disappointing.

M: Medium-bodied and almost flat in terms of carbonation.

O: Definitely not a beer I'll revisit in the future. It's basically like drinking a bottle of cranberry-cherry juice.

A-pours a copperish amber color, transparent with a slightly off white creamy head.

S-the nose is extremely artificial and sugar, lots of messy malts with notes of sweet raisins and chocolate. The cherry is so faint, the sugars are strong and non inviting. this is rather messy and poor in the nose.

T-the flavor follows the nose, messy and malty. the flavor is less pronounced and very flabby. chocolate malts and sugary raisins with light tart cherry. these flavors are all mild and very watery.

M-thinner feel and poor finish that falls off substantially. carbonation is low and the finish is watery and weak.

D-this is a poor attempt at a beer, flabby, flat, and watery. too malty and artificial with way too much sugar and not enough anything good.

375ml bottle at the Malt House in Madison, WI. Poured into a Duvel tulip today, 1/27/2014.

App- dark brownish red body, minimal white head, looks syrupy. Not much retention, no lacing.

Smell- Medicinal, cough syrup, Robitussin. Some cherry flavor, extremely sweet.

Taste- Disgusting. Overly sweet with cherry makes it incredibly medicinal.

Mouthfeel- Medium-thick body, custardy. Had to choke half the bottle down. Luckily for me, another BA was sharing this bottle with me.

Overall- Disgusting example of a kriek. You can do way, way better than this with other shelf krieks.. even Lindeman makes a better one. Look for the likes of Hannsen's or Oude Beersel.

12 oz champagne bottle poured into my large St Feuillien goblet, Boon Kriek is a hazy magenta purple with a small, tight bubbled off-white head

Smell is very sweet and fruity, like fanta grape soda, with a very slight medicinal tinge, perhaps a hint of lacto. Not to bad, but like candy.

Taste is not as sweet, with some oaky, woodsy, and slightly metallic notes, little to no sourness, with nutty, slightly astringent aftertaste. The nuttiness (roasted peanuts) really clashes and doesn't work for me at all. Candied fruit and peanuts...pass!

Mouthfeel is very carbonated, but there is still that inevitable syrupiness from to much sugar. The slight acidity is evident in the prickliness on the tongue. The tannins and sugar coats the teeth in an unpleasant manner.

Drinkability is lower for me, this is just another candy beer with really no semblance of the base lambic, more like a wine cooler. Not worth the price, even though I got it on sale, I was hoping it would be funky with a slight cherry tinge. Instead it tastes like cherry slurpee syrup again in oak barrels. I now realize I was thinking of the Oude Kriek, whoops! I couldn't finish this, to sweet and syrupy.

A deep cherry color, quite clear, with a nice pink head. Not super carbonated though. Smells of cherry and also slightly tart with a woodiness to it as well. Almost cherry candy type aromas. Not very sour tasting at all, though not that sweet either. A little bit of a tannic edge finishes the beer off. Quite mellow for a lambic. Overall this has a nice cherry flavor backed by a pleasing light acidity. This would be a good first lambic beer for those who have not had the style, but in the end it just does not hold up.

750ml bottle from 2013. Opaque, dark red with a lacing of bubbles. Sour cherry smell. Medium feel, only lightly carbonated. Sweet cherry flavors. I don't really detect anything else. Great if you like cherries, but there are other krieks with more lambic character.

On tap at Camping in Beersel. Pours a bright red like a jar of bar cherries topped with a frothy deep pink head. Aroma of tart cherries pounds the nose from a foot away and is followed by touches of sweet brown sugar and hints of the mild lambic sourness that is to come. As expected cherry dominates the palate as well. There are hints of vinousness and a general red fruitiness but this isn't particularly depthful. Still, the sweet/tart character of the cherries mixed with the sourness of the lambic, which also dries the beer a little, makes this a very balanced and pleasant beer - as cherry beers go especially. I very much enjoyed it on this and other occasions.

Kriek Boon Lambic Ale, 4.0% alcohol content.
Green bottle corked and caged, poured into a Lindeman's flute.

A- Pours a deep red fluid that produces a tight bubbled light red head, leaving patchy lacing on the glass.

S- Smells of sour cherries and red wine upfront with slight hints of sweet alcohol fumes.

T-M- Has a upfront sweetness of cherries and a red wine bitterness. Refreshing light tart and a smooth watery mouthfeel put this down as a after dinner beer.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #37 (Feb 2010):

This sweetened Lambic pours a pink-rose lace, which shows some good retention on the muddled cerise liquid. Smells of cherry cough drops, wild musty herbs and a little bit of lemon peel ... a super-sweet nose. Smoothness leads to a peppy crispness. Very wet with a watery cherry flavor, the sweetness battles it out with a deep tartness ... seems to be a stalemate. Minty, mineral, cellar, musty yeast, a little grainy and faintly metallic. which are all lost trails of complexities here. Finishes with more of that metallic flavor and a dull twang of tartness, one that's dry at that.

This beer is in a bit of an identity crisis, but it has the potential to be a full-on sweet Lambic, or it could have gone down the road of being ultra traditional without the small portion of sweetener. Regardless, this is a great starter for the unschooled Lambic drinker.

To clarify, when we talk about this beer being sweetened it is not to be confused with other non-traditional beers that use artificial sweeteners. Fruit is used to sweeten this beer.

This is my first foray into the world of lambics....here goes. Caged & corked bottle. Pfft! goes the cork. Pours a deep cherry red with a wonderful foamy pink head. Gotta say I like the looks of it. Sour cherries invade the nostrils along with a funky earthy smell.

Mouth puckery sour cherry goodness melds with odd dirty, musty notes. A bit of sweetness sneaks in as well, candy sugary. Yummy spontaneously fermented brew.

Mouthfeel is nice and fluffy. Bubbly carbonation runs over my tongue. Easily drinkable brew and quite a tasty treat. Not your everyday beer, but nice for a change of pace. I look forward to trying some more lambics and seeing where the style takes me.

Label say 4% abv. Best by 1/18/2015

A - Pours a beautiful deep cherry color with one finger of pink foam. Head has surprisingly good retention before settling to a thin cap.

S - Pretty straightforward aroma with big cherry notes and a very faint earthy funk. Good, if not deep. Cherry has a bit of cherry candy character but none of the medicinal notes that often accompany cherry.

T - Nice tart cherry. It is somewhat sweet, but nowhere near Lindemans sweet. Some earthy yeast funk gives some depth, but this is pretty one note. Still enjoyable.

M - Light mouthfeel with a crisp tartness and faint earthy bitterness on the finish.

O - Not the most complex kriek, but good for what it is.

Efferescent creamy aroma a tart cherry taste that lacks the creaminess that the aroma promises, mouthfeel and texture is a little thin, a hint of sourness starts coming on, and I'm basicaly stood up by the malt, which never shows. I like Lindemanns better.

37cl bottle. Dark ruby pour with a light purple head. Notes of cherries dominate the palate, with additional sherry, caramel and honey and very (and I do mean VERY) subtle lambic notes.

A-A big pour of Boon Kriek for the wife enjoyed overlooking a Bruges canal. I helped her out and took some notes...this one is clear and a magnificent red with a pink glass sticking lace.
S-Cherries and lots of them. Not much else here, but a very inviting aroma.
T-The taste of this kriek is clean but quite 1 dimensional. Cherries up front and in the finish. Very weak sourness in the end. Nothing like what you would get out of Cantillon or DF.
M-Light and spritzy finishes nicely dry. Super easy to drink.
O-A cherry forward lambic. Big fans of sourness and funk present in some of the other krieks probably won't love this one but is really tasty and easy to drink which is a big plus in my book. Lacks complexity.
