Raspberry lambic was once a rarity and only produced for a few weeks during the summer. Frank Boon was the first brewer to again prepare a raspberry lambic in the summer of 1976. More than 300 grams per litre of fresh raspberries give Framboise Boon a fresh fruity taste. The young lambic supports the flavour. But this is very much about raspberries, not the lambic. Of course we do not use artificial flavourings, only real raspberries.

12oz. corked and caged bottle poured into a lambic tumbler.

(A)- Pours a pale blush red color. Produced some white bubbles. Minimal lace.

(S)- A big ripe and juicy raspberry and vanilla-like creamy oak aroma. Nice funk, but otherwise a rather sweet smelling lambic. Very dry and earthy too, like a dirty floor.

(T)- Like the smell in terms of some ripe fruits. Not all that sour at all actually. Hints at some acidity, but otherwise a sweeter, yet drier and funkier example. Finishes in a strange metallic flavor.

(M)- A much lower carbonation level than anticipated. Very smooth and sweet yet lacking a classic lambic feel; this feels like juice to me.

(D)- Easy enough to enjoy and savor, but a let down considering the style and other beers this brewery has out there.

13 oz draft pour at Lures Bar & Grille. Pours a dirty pink color with a moderate head. Aroma and flavor feature overripe (on the verge of rotten) but weak raspberry flavor with a slightly medicinal quality, light malt, and more sweetness than acidity. Almost no funk. Very little oak or tannins. This is probably the worst fruited lambic I've had, although it's still drinkable. That said, it's not a beer I'd choose again.

(375 ml green bottle, 23.02.2014; purchased dusty single off shelf at Mr. Liquor... decanted into a teku)

L: somewhat clear, pale vinous red colored liquid; half inch high foam pad on pour, drops in short time, leaving a thick, bubbly collar and even a couple thick rings off lace... not much pop when the cork was removed

S: barrel funk, sherry, berry jam skin; definitely doesn't smell fresh, despite the powerful intensity of the aromas coming off it

T: a little more of that sherry note up front, with a swell of raspberry and tart in the finish; by the second sip, the raspberry is more expressive... a few sips in and it gets curiously malty; extra points for intensity, despite its fuzzy clarity

F: marginally rounded light body, bit of a swell and drag start to finish; not amply carbonated, some subtle sizzle around the sides of the tongue up front... its tartness does keep the palate a little lit up... would love for a little more snap and simmer, but it's so easy drinking

O: turned out a lot better than its inauspicuous introduction hinted at... at this point, it's a crap shoot; I could see getting this again, however, of course I'd aim to get a more recent bottling; who knows in what shape the remaining bottles are at the ol' Mr. Liquor (1931)

Bought at Liquor Shed in Casper. 2016, best before August 31st 2019.

It pours a clear red with a substantial long lasting head of foam.

I smell raspberries, both tart and semi sweet, a little bit of oak.

The taste is raspberries, maybe it is a bit past its prime, sweet and tart notes, some oak to it. Kind of dry on my palate.

Good mouthfeel despite the carbonation being on the lower side.

I would grab some fresher, no doubt aboot it.

Bottle, at Plan B, Copenhagen. Fizzy, clear red colour, initially large head. Aroma is ripe raspberries (no surprise), "over-ripe" perhaps. Fruit garden notes, smells like an "Indian summer" day. Also notes of blackberries. Flavour is again raspberries, not too sour, well balanced, vinous qualities. A supreme fruit lambic.

Dull ruby body, hazy, briefly forming a high head the colour of himalayan sea salt, but swirl the glass and a full layer returns.
Super fresh and real raspberry aroma, like you just took a berry and smashed it in your hand. Nothing artificial about it. Focused.
Flavour is like raspberry mousse, being full of raspberries (though blindfolded I might also guess strawberries or cherries) and accompanied with a sense of vanilla and cream; champagne like in feel and taste, with fine carbonation and notes of white grape; only lightly tart, this is all fruity sweetness - not sugary sweetness; medium body; off-dry finish with a whisper of hop bitters.

A focused ode to the raspberry that won't wow with complexity, but makes a great accompaniment to chocolate cake.

2016 vintage as labelled on a neck sticker. 12.7oz/375ml bottled poured into Duvel tulip. Gave my mom some in a Lindeman's flute to celebrate New Years. The end of 2020. On the bottom of the back label it's printed "Best before 31/09/2019 Batch# 73709". So apparently I had this a 1 year and 3 months after it's suggested best by date. Picked it up recently from the liquor store for around $10 I think? Maybe even a couple less.

Appearance - Small 1 finger or smaller white head. Deeply hazy raspberry colored body, maybe slightly more on the brown or orange side. On a subsequent pour I accidentally poured out the sediment. Very thick dull reddish-grey chunks. Luckily they sank to the bottom of the glass after a couple minutes. Mostly. 4.75

Smell - Enticing raspberry without any artificialness to it. Which I think is the key aspect of any fruity beer. 4.75

Taste - Fairly dry with just enough 'sweetness' to cut out any harshness. Great raspberry flavor. Tart. Isn't overbearing or artificial. Tastes very natural, very balanced, very delicious. 5

Mouthfeel - Delicious soft head gives great texture. Good effervescence. Great body. Very clean, and refreshing. 5

Drinkability - Delicious. Very drinkable. Drank it a year late, but can't imagine it could have been better than what I had. One of the better lambics I've had. 5

Warning: I don't like lambic beer at all, but this was part of a set.
Here we go.
Pours lovely red with nice lacing. The nose takes me back to my childhood's raspberry syrup and soda drinks. Lovely. The taste is not as sour as I expected, which is good. Then again, I just had a few sips of this brewery's Geuze (which was an eventual drain pour) and it left all my teeth, tongue and the roof of my mouth sour and miserable. I might finish this one, but again it's not the best.
These two lambic bottles were the negative cost of the other four non-lambic Belgians I will have later this week.
