A: Pours a very rich deep dark maroon with a nice fizzy pink head.

S: Aromas of very tart berry juice, wood, earth, and funk

T: Tart cherry from front to finish, subtle wood, dirt, and hints of leather. Subtle sweetness hides beneath.

M: Medium in body, smooth, with a nice level of carbonation.

D: Good a nice drinkable brew.

Bottle, Vintage 2013, dated best by 5/2035:
Poured a ruby to burgundy, a little darker than I expected. Fairly clear except for that deep color. Pinkish rose head builds up nicely on a moderately light pour.

There's a deep wood backbone to the nose that a fairly powerful presence of the cherries that are added to this beer use as a platform. There's a more astringent acidic note that is reminiscent of alcohol - though I do not think that is what it is.

This beer does have a prickliness to the carbonation. The beer is fairly light, perhaps aided by the carbonation.

The sweeter flavors brought by the cherries make this beer less tart accordingly. The carbonation helps here. There are noticeable wood notes in this beer's background, and the cherries shine with a rich, but not sweet, flavor. I do get vague impressions of tartness from fruity notes that are more peach and nectarine than anything else I notice.

Impressed by the fact I get the level of flavor in this beer without it being over the top. The barrel comes through, a light tartness comes through, and the cherries come through. And it's still a beer.

2013 Vintage (4 years from bottling): It pours like a thick cherry juice with a pink head of great retention. The aroma is intensely funky with hints of bitterness. The taste is fairly bitter with bitter notes and hardly any sweetness except for very late. Lots of brett and quinine-resembling bitterness. Medium mouthfeel with more carbonation that one would expect from an Oude Kriek.

This bottle was dated 1995 by far the oldest bottle conditioned beer I have had to date, poures a color of a ripe cherry with a thin white spotty head.Aroma of sour cherries and vinegar with a woodiness but its pretty faint, taste is tart but not as tart as alot of beers this style maybe because of the age also a light sherry flavor in the finish.A nice find not my favorite style but I kinda like this more than others.

One word springs to mind here- exceptional. stinky barnyard earthiness in the aroma, quite vinous, almost pinot noir like, very complex, aged cherry skin, lovely lambic tart sourness, i absolutely love this beer.

Brouwerij Boon "Kriek Marriage Parfait"
375 ml green glass bottle, corked and caged, "2013"

Notes via stream of consciousness: Clear ruby colored body beneath a foamy finger-thick head of pink. Intense aroma of horse blanket. mold/mustiness, soft leather, and light "metallic". The flavor is very tart but not puckeringly sour and the cherry is clear but not overblown. It's a little sweetish in the middle and that leads to a sweetish tail despite the acidity. Of all of the kriek lambic I've tasted this one might be the most accessible. It's very nicely rounded, not too sour or funky, and not too sweet or cherryish. One could easily fall in love with this beer for life and find it hard to let go. Looking back the lacing is pretty nice, as is the head retention, which is unusual for sour beers. Light-medium in body and delicately bristling on the palate with a nice, fine-bubbled, natural carbonation. Superb!

poured from a bottle marked 2004 into a tulip glass

A-pale amber color with a big fluffy white head.

S-grapefruit, sweetness shines through. A nice funky brett yeast smell backs all that up.

F-very similiar to the head. grapefruit and lemon peel with a nice well balaced sweetness that I feel is much better than the regular oude boon geuze as that one is too dry for me.

M-light and crisp. carbonation is high and bounces on your tongue.
