Bottle bought at Echarle Huevos, served at home in a Leffe glass. Yellow colour, medium head that fades to a thin layer, good lacing. Aroma of citrics, flowers, some hops and caramel. Medium body, oily texture, good carbonation. Bitter, but not much finish. Taste of hops, citrics, caramel, flowers. Bland.

50cl Draught: It's not a bad beer, but I wouldn't consider it much of an IPA. Nose is a bit light. Maybe some floral and very faint pine. Just a bit of bitterness to the taste. Maybe some breadiness, earthy and floral hops, really faint pine. It is certainly drinkable, but I wouldn't be calling it a Belgian IPA.

The beer looks good, pours a refreshing light body with foamy head, retention is mediocre, was gone before half way through quaffing.

Aroma is hoppy, quite zesty, a fair bit effervescence up the nasal passages'.

Taste grows on you, first mouthful tasted a touch artificial and almost sour, but from there on in each mouthful presents an improvement. Definitely a refreshing number with hints of elderflower.

7.5% abv is completely hidden, and the aftertaste leaves a silky sweet film on the roof of the mouth.
My only complaint is the gas in this brew, it's not really needed.

Not sure where the low BA ratings are coming from with this one again, it's not a world beater, but it is certainly a decent way above average brew.....you wouldn't put say a Sierra Nevada Torpedo above this one for instance.

Crystal clear deep golden color with white head. Aroma has yeast, some floral esters or hop notes, cannot really tell. Taste is quite weird, there is some aspirin/medicine note with a light bitterness that lingers after each sip. Medium body and carbonation. There are some obvious flaws with this beer.

Purchased this one in a supermarket... so this is Leffe attempt at an IPA. . I was expecting more from this one. Go for other Leffe products if you're an aficionados, otherwise I won't buy again. Not too mention it's pricey!

From Belgium in a Box. In Grimbergen glass. Playing Blackwell Epiphany. Pleasant sugaryness of Leffe with a slight touch of flowery from what I suppose are the Cascade hops. Not very bitterly hoppy to classify it as an IPA though

Lager gold with disappearing froth. 3.5
Bubble gum and Tang. 3.75
Pils cracker, some honey, pencil eraser, then mild flowers and tangerine. 3.75
Almost medium, smooth, chewy. 4

More house yeast character. Cascade floweriness melds in nicely. Still not sold on this single hops series, but this is easy. 3.75

L: Quickly dissipating head, little bubbles, nice lacing, honey coloring
S: Fresh apples, wet grass, flowers, very light and uplifting smell, springtime
T: Tastes very different from smell, a weird mix between malt and hops that leaves a strange and sad after taste. Getting a yeasty sour bubble gum finish to it. Doesn't really taste like an IPA.
F: Smooth feel, nice body
O: I was expecting a lot more from this beer after smelling it. What I got was a strange mix between a Maibock and a IPA that was not that pleasant. Fix the taste and you have yourself a winner but definitely pass on this "IPA"

75cl brown glass bottle purchased for ~5.20 euro at a Monoprix in Nice. Brief impressions below:

HEAD: ~4-5cm wide. White colour. Pretty frothy. ~5 minute retention. Leaves no lacing as it recedes.

BODY: Clear copper-gold of average vibrance. No yeast particulate, lees, or sediment is/are visible.

AROMA: Floral, though Cascade is poorly showcased. Pale malt sweetness. A hint of honey. Biscuity Belgian yeast.

TASTE: Pleasantly floral, with a pleasant pale malt presence and a hint of honey. Subtly spicy Belgian ale yeast. Well-attenuated. Balanced and enioyable, with a reticent hop presence. No, Cascade isn't well showcased at all, but I'll take the more subtle (i.e. reticent) approach over ruinous rindy bitterness.

TEXTURE: Crisp and clean. Smooth and wet. A touch oily, but it's minimal. Medium-bodied. Overcarbonated.

OVERALL: There's no ideal harmony of texture and taste here. Like other beers in the Leffe Royale series, this panders to a European demographic by cashing in with vague marketing of trendy beer terms like "IPA" and "Cascade hops," but in spite of its shortcomings Belgian yeast's subtleties makes it worthwhile. For a faux-abbey beer owned by a multinational corporate conglomerate, it ain't half bad.

Biting overcarbonation is its biggest flaw.

Quite a disapointment considering how special it looks and costs (almost double of regular leffe). Not a bad beer but just a pretty average tasting Belgian IPA.

33cl bottle. Clear orange pour with a tall white head with good retention. Smells like honey, perfumed hops, yeast and lemon juice. The taste follows the same notes. I am not feeling the cascade hops anywhere, but despite that, this beer is quite drinkable.

IPA by name, bullshit by taste. Don't be fooled this is definitely not an IPA in any aspect. Still yeast forward with the traditional leffe character. It's totally unbalance. Even Leffe blonde is more enjoyable

I'm not a fan of Leffe beers, but somehow felt the need to give this one a try. You'll never know after all.

Look: filtered beer, that's very noticeable. So no secondary fermentation. Small head, unlike regular IPA's.

Smell:Typical Belgian Ale with a faint hop aroma. Is this supposed to be an IPA?

Taste: Sweet, malty and some artificial hoppy taste. When the beer warms that hoppy taste even diminishes... Very watery too btw.

Conclusion: Poor attempt at an IPA from AB Inbev! My advice: don't waste your money on this beer, there are enough more interesting beers than this.

One of 3 new offerings from Leffe based on the the standard Leffe Royale.

In the last few years in Belgium it has become trendy to produce one base beer with different/speciality hop styles and this is Leffe's belated attempt to carve out a slice of this market.

I wish they had chosen a different beer as I am no fan of Leffe Royale! That said when you go to the supermarket and they are giving away a four pack free I'm willing to give it a chance!

A. Like Leffe Royale it has a lovely golden colour: in fact it looks exactly the same as the standard Leffe Royale

S. Again think Leffe Royale; no discernible additional hop aroma from the standard fare, same slightly metallic sweet smell.

T. From the name and the styles that Leffe are trying to copy I was expecting a good hop presence: sadly this is not the case and while it is a slight improvement on the the base beer it is no IPA. The Cascade hops have a hard time making their presence felt above the sweet slightly metallic taste of the base beer.

There are much better examples of speciality or extra hopped Belgian Beers out there I'd suggest you check them out instead of wasting your time with this.

On the other hand if you really like Leffe Royal there might well a lot of this stuff getting sold off cheap in the next few months ;^)
